I like Starship Trooper! I think when Steve Howe joined and they made The Yes Album, well that is where Yes found their defining sound. I think they rediscovered it around the time of the Keys recordings. So I think my opinion must put me in the Trooper camp.

I bought the Yes Album back in 1971, and I always loved them, but when I heard Owner Of A Lonely Heart, and the entire 90125 album, it was unbelievable!! I'm a Generator through and through.

All Yes is good Yes. I love it all. My first Yes show was Dortmund on the 90125 tour and it was stunning. And now they're playing better than ever.
We're lucky to have 'em.

You know, to be fair, Cinderella..and all Westers out there my first gig was the 90125 tour..shoot..i was all of 11 years old so this was my first opportunity to see YES EVER! And I was simply blown away..absolutely flabergasted..and i had such a wonderful experience...i think we all have to understand (all jokes aside..cause I dont want ANYONE on this site to think that Im a Trevor basher, I like to have fun and tease, that quite honestly without 90125 we wouldnt have YES as we now them NOW to enjoy..doesnt mean as i have grown older i am not as "fond" of the Trev years as i was when i was 11...but I acjknowledge the importanve of those years as a part of Yeshistory that is very very important....but I truly remain a TROOPER!

I consider myself more a Trooper, but I definitely like YesWest as well. I really appreciate Trevor's work and absolutely love for example 90125 and TALK. I think Trev did great work there, amazing and he didn't have an easy job. Kudos to him for that.
My favourite line-up still is the "classic" line-up, mainly because of Rick, but also because I'ms absolutely into all the pieces they did together.
Cinderella - LOVE your avatar, lol. Woud love to have such a pic of Rick *grins*:valintine: :-)))

I like both as long as the tunes are good.
Well I'd say If I had to choose I'd prefer Trooper tunes with Trevor's solos than Yeswest tunes with Howe's solos !

Trooper all day, no doubt about it.
There are some great moments on the West works too, and I will enjoy a spin or two once in awhile. But it cannot compare.
Generator would be my favorite of them, though. Drama I can honestly say I never listen to.

DRAMA is a great record !
Some of the best Squire playing, an unusual funkier Steve Howe, some great Alan White breaks, a a few great tunes as well.
Especially rediscover it through the expanded version, amazing stuff, I love it.
The only thing I can complain about is some of Horn's vocals, but it's not that bad anyway. It's note supposed to sound like Anderson, just see it as a different thing, and btw Squire's vocals balance the weakness of Horn's parts.
DRAMA deserves more,
give it a new a new ear

Yeswest! For me it's quite simple as that: Being Yeswest means, that you love all incarnations of this band. And if you are lucky to get hooked into Trevors work with the band, you will feel, that Rabin-Yes has as much depth, complexity and beauty as the so called Trooper/Howe-Yes. For me, Yeswest just means to enjoy more great Yes-music.
Greetings

She's worth it just for her guitarist, Philip Sayce.
He is my favorite guitarist ever (sorry Steve and Stevie Ray), and he's only 27.
His style is "Technocolor Blues," and he is a cross between Jimi Hendrix, Jimi Page (at his non-sloppiest), Stevie Ray Vaughn, and GOD.
Remind me to bug you guys in August, I think she's swinging through California again.

I almost consider myself a "Panther" since DRAMA completely intrigues me.
However, since RELAYER slightly edges it out as my favorite YES album ... and AND YOU AND I is my favorite single song ... I suppose I'd have to be a "Trooper".

So what?
What is more important - where you came from? where you are now? where you are going? or all 3?
If Yes West had not existed it is doubtful that Yes would exist today. We all have our own preferences and we all like what we like, but do we really need to split into 2 camps?
Why not split into further splinter groups - Bankers for the 1st 2 albums; Kayelites for the first 3 (and possibly the Yes West stuff as well - might have to form some kind of negotiated federation there); Brufordians for everything up to CTTE & including ABWH & Union?; Whitists for everything from TFTO onwards; Wakeys; Morazonites; Hornys/ Dramatists /Downesians (Panthers? - oh Yeah the cover); Rabinites; Unionists (doubt there'll be many of them); Sherwooders; Igorettes; Symphonics;Ultimists. If I've missed anyone my apologies.
Just as long as everyone respects everyone else's personal opinion, we should all get along fine.
I'm a Brufordian Whitist myself - or as someone earlier posted a Yes-Whole.
Love, kisses and good Cheer to all.

:valintine I prefer to be called a "Trevie." "Rabinite" just sounds too biblical. :D
But then he is a guitar God*
Then again I'm using mostly surnames - I didn't for Igor though I suppose Khoroshevians would do I just liked the sound of Igorettes. Having re read some of your previous postys though I think Trevie would suit just fine.
*Just for balance so are Steve & Peter & ok possibly Billy too (dont want to upset Sherwooders, Bankers and Howelings - forgot to add that one last time doh, neither did I do Andersonists or Squirelets.
love kisses & cheers to all

It's pretty hard not to, because it's 2 different types of music.
We all love each other here anyway, though!

I'm a YESWHOLE, but tend to lean towards the Trooper side mostly. :hearts: i love all of it, it took me a few years to appreciate trevor sound, and i even went to the union tour ! a good friend of mine (my he rest in peace) was a huge yes fan, and got me to love "TALK".. sinc then, i appreciate yes as a whole, with stronger feelings twards the anderson, howe, wakeman, squire, white lineup.. but, i think anything with JON ANDERSON rules !!!

It all depends on my mood for a day ;)
Well seriously..i'm JUST this side of the Trooper line. But Yeswest has given me some truely fantastic music as much as the trooper side..how can anyone say Endless Dream, Shoot High Aim Low, Final Eyes, Lift Me Up, The More We Live are a shame to Yes music is beyond me!
