That's an excellent picture - 1973, that's a while ago and beats my first Yesshow by a bit! What are those two red things bottom right - I didn't think the Glasgow Apollo was the sort of venue where you could drink wine at your seat?

Great photo.

I was there ( I think! ).

Aren't those drums?

One thing about the Apollo you're dead right about was it not being a place to sit and sip a glass of wine.

I remember us bringing down a whole row of seats in one go once. Pure accident of course.

I was 20 then, missed Yes' first NAmerican show in 1971, oops!
Good to have a picture from Glasgie '73, first show mine was June 1975 Vancouver, yay.

Those two red cases by the booze-filled drums ;) look like the fireman cases I've used for keyboard gear for years...

They're kettledrums for Ritual, I suppose.

I'm pretty sure InverYes is correct - they look like the kettle drums Chris uses in "Ritual."

Thanks for the memories....I was lucky enough to be at the gig but when you think back YES were extremely"bold"to play the complete tales to an audience who probably were not familiar with the music.

Being Glasgow, perhaps a deep fried Mars Bar was keeping warm in there too ..... ;)

What pisses me off is the thought that of all the fantastic gigs I saw there (and missed) the last band to play the Apollo was the fuqing Style Council – you would think they could have had a big celebratory bash featuring bands or stars to sign it off properly
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
I mean.. the bloody style council – I ask you!

On a similar note, once they demolished it my mates and I broke into the debris field and got photos taken approximately where the stage would have been - wish I could find them!

God bless the Glasgow Apollo

I was on the front row that night also, just in front of Rick.
I also went to the same gig the next night and I was a few rows from the stage.

Cheers, Eddie

I was just a few seats along towards the centre. I missed the second night as I was sick. I actually had to sneak out of the house for the first night, as I was off-school.
Do you remember Rick kicking a paper cup off-stage, and then an almighty scramble among the boys in the front row to win the "prize"?

I don't remember the cup incident but my memory isn't too good, I do remember Rick throwing chocolate biscuits at folk, he hit me with a Cadbury's Finger.

You say you were off school that day? You would be 18 years old, were you kept back a couple of years? :o)

My first Yes concert!
Ah, for the days of Firebird, CTTE, TFTO and Roundabout. There's a setlist for you. Must admit TFTO was a bit of a mouthful for a first listen. Great photo, thanks.

Thanks for posting the Apollo link, Edmund.

NOW - I can say I was right. I knew it, I knew it, I knew it - I told you so........ don't ever question me again :-)
What am I havering on about?

Well - for years I have been telling everyone that in 1977 Yes played 4 nights at the Apollo. The tour Programme, all the Yes history books, and gig guides say they only played 3.
I have never found a single person to back up my claim.
I swear I saw Yes 4 nights in a row at the Apollo in 1977, which was a record at the time for the venue.

Now - in this archive of Apollo performances - click on 1977 - you will see that Yes did indeed play 4 nights.

Someone tell Pete Whipple - and all the authors who didn't believe me. ;-)

Brian, I was at the opening night Sunday 6 Nov and the last night Tuesday 8th Nov 1977. I think the Apollo web site is wrong.

I've attached a scan of a Melody Maker full page add from 12th Nov 77 - which supports only 3 shows at Glasgow - there were 12 UK shows in all (6 London , 3 Stafford and 3 Glasgow). If there had been another Glasgow show the band would have acknowledged it.

Wish I'd gone to one of these shows - I had the chance but didn't take it ....

I still regret it!

Thanks for that - I don't remember such an ad. What a positive idea it was to post an ad thanking fans for turning up. Seems somehow reminiscent of better times.

The Glasgow Apollo was a bit of a dump but what an atmosphere was generated in there. The 2 Yesshows I saw in Nov 77 are still quite vivid - especially as the bootleg video of the last night exits and can be seen youtube. on the first night Yes came on about 45 mins - 1 hour late due to problems with the lazers which didn't work all night.

Apart from Yes - great shows I recall at the Apollo were, ELO, Jethro Tull, Rush, Bowie, Jon Anderson.
