We do prime rib.

I will probably also have mashed potatoes and gravy, either sweet potato or turnip (maybe both), something green (green beans or asparagas) rolls and probably salad.

Mom will bake some pies for me, and I'll serve the family's peanut butter fudge recipe.

Not sure what I'm making this year. Last year was standing rib and yorkshire pudding for both xmas eve and xmas day. This year, I don't know if we're hosting both. I'm considering an Italian food festival for xmas eve and a turkey for xmas day.

I'd like to make (among other things) eggplant parmigiana for Christmas Eve, and I know we'll be at my in-laws for Christmas Day, so no cooking there.

As far as I know I'm spending Xmas day alone. So, I'll probably make something that I never have time to make, like homemade pasta sauce. Or maybe I'll buy something completely decadent that I would never think of eating under normal circumstances like maybe I'll buy lobster or something that is 43million calories per serving.

I'm sure that could be arranged. I don't think I'm going anywhere.

Christmas is my meal. I do the turkey thing at Thanksgiving, but I get to have my spiral, brown sugar ham w/pineapple for Christmas dinner. I'll probably make some mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes, some vegetables to go with it (broccoli and cheese) and probably some homemade bread.

Eric loves baking so he'll be making some Christmas brownies, and I'll make an apple pie. We make them with Splenda, so at least I can control how much sugar I eat. We also make eggnog from my grandmother's recipe.

I'll make a few dozen pepperoni rolls and brownies and send them to my mother and my sister and her family. I wanted to go home to visit them for Christmas this year, but I think I'll try and go in January or February.

I never make a big meal for Christmas. I might cook a ham sometime when the kids are off school and eat ham sandwiches all week.

Yes, I need ideas, but I don't wanna do the feast of the seven fishes. I want to include meat, pasta, whatever. Help, tasia! Then again, Dave and I both want another turkey . . .

Christmas eve is something else. I usually make a New England boiled dinner (smoked shoulder) for my son and his girlfriend and I. We all exchange gifts that night.

I hate to cook both on the Eve and on the Day, but I usually have help w/ cleanup for both meals, so it's not too bad. Besdies, I have a little more energy than I used to.

Eggnog is always welcome. I'm gonna talk Chris into picking up a couple of bottles of wine (she usually picks a good one).

I'm nervous about so many for dinner this year. There will be at least 10, if not 11 and I only have place settings for 8 (though I do have 2 different sets of dishes).

There is something comforting about having that many though... reminds me of the houseful we always had when we were little.

I'm hoping you can carpool w/ Mom & Dad, as parking may be an issue. (I may have Tim and Shayne park their cars at Shayne's house. They have much more room for parked cars over there.)

What kind of "gravy" do you serve w/ ham? Do you use some blend of the pan drippings and the glaze?

I love ham, but it's our typical Easter meal. Beef for Christmas, Turkey for Thanksgiving, Ham for Easter.

Yes I use some of the drippings and mix it with flour to make a roux and add some beef (or chicken) broth to it. It turns out good most of the time.

I wish I HAD wrote it... it is eloquent. So you live in MA. All the best American poets are from MA. Whittier, Lowell, Longfellow . . .
I spent most of a weekend tracing Whittier's hangouts. I even sat in a complex writing apparatus which the Peabodys bought for him. The farmhouse in Haverhill and the home in Amesbury are both well maintained by resident staff families; they invited me to their Quaker meeting house.
I want to go back for Longfellow and Lowell.

Well, it's been settled that we're hosting xmas eve and going to Dave's sister's for xmas day. We decided on a ginormous turkey -- 22+ lbs. for 6 of us -- so we'll have plenty of leftovers.

So, the menu is:

turkey
sausage, apple, & cranberry stuffing
mashed potatoes
roasted sweet potatoes with ginger & honey
a green veg
gravy
cranberry sauce

cranberry pie & frozen vanilla yogurt
noodle kugel
