I was listening to the Frank Zappa album ROXY & ELSEWHERE today, which features the song CHEEPNIS - a song that fondly pokes fun at low budget horror movies. Before the song begins Frank delivers an introductory monologue describing various 'bad movie making' techniques that made films like IT CONQUERED THE WORLD timeless classics. This introduction is one of my favorites of all time. Which led me to wonder...

What are some of everyone else's favorite song introductions by their favorite groups/singers?

Is it Jon talking about Eddy Offord rolling the tapes and 'other things' (intro to And You And I - Universal Amphitheater 1997)?

How about John Lennon's "rattle your jewelry" comment before The Beatles played TWIST AND SHOUT at the Royal Command Performance 1963? (Anthology 1)

Janis Joplin's introduction to TRY(Just A Little Bit Harder) on JOPLIN IN CONCERT ?

I liked Jon's introduction at the EMP when he stated, "This is one we're doing for the Dedicated fans" before they launched into, um, you know what.........:crybby:

That post was me btw. Would a mod be kind enought to delete it for me?

Who Wants To Live Forever on Queen Live At Wembley 86 is pretty cool.

Jon's "we were stoned in the 70's" speech at Birmingham 01 was pretty funny.

I played in a jazz band once upon a time. After one really hot number, the leader announced to the crowd of over 1000, "Here's another real ass-kicker for ya." I loved it!!

My favourite song intro is by the late, great, Steve Marriott and was spoken at the intro to final song I Don’t Need No Doctor, from the still wonderful, Performance, Rockin’ The Fillmore. And the quote is: “We, er, we go ‘ome on Monday, but I wanna tell ya, we aint ‘alf ‘ad a gas this time…it’s really been a gas!”

My favourite outro quote, is by Robert Plant at the end of Whole Lotta Love, from The Song Remains The Same: “ New York…Good Night!”

Has to be the Moorcock poetry on Hawkwind's live 'In Search Of Space' album...either the poetry before 'Sonic Attack'...'Think only of yourselves do not panic' or the poem...'ten seconds of forever'.'then the ten seconds of forever are NEVER NEVER NEVER' before the song 'Brainstorm'

Humble Pie !!! I agree with that one.

My fav is:

"Good evening. Thank you. In between last time we came and this time, we managed to get an album out called 'Houses Of The Holy' and ... this is something that we decided was an apt title for a thing that's called 'The Song Remains The Same'."

From the depths of my memory, for a great introduction to a concert and track look no further than Watcher of the Skies, so memorably recreated earlier this year in Nottingham by 'The Musical Box'.

But there are so many ... anyone remember maid in Heaven by Bebop Deluxe ... a killer intro (imo)

Welcome to Yesfans, Doktor Rokster!
Yeah, Humble Pie was great. Saw them once...on a bill with (get this) Mahogany Rush, Angel and Mother's Finest!! LOL!! What a night!

Slaz...you're so right about Peter Gabriel's intros and stories back in the old days when he had to make time for Tony Banks to set up all his synths for the next tune!! LOL!

There are so many cool or funny intros....but, one that comes to mind is from Todd Rundgren's Back To The Bars double album...
Todd sez:
"Is this Enid, Oklahoma? No, that's not right. Oh!! I know!! It's Cleveland, OhiOOOOOO!!! Somehow I get the feeling we've been here before!! Wow, I'm having a deja vu, man!" LOL!

More Grace Slick from Woodstock:

"Sorry about those who got the green. We got a whole lotta orange. And it was fine. Still is fine. Everyone's vibrating..." (leads into ESKIMO BLUE DAY)
