I don't suppose anyone knows if chris is using a regular Rickenbacker 4001 on this album unlike his normal, earlier model? Only in the sleeve it seems as though he is. Sorry i'm a bassist, i just like to know these things:rightG:

I'd have to go look it up, but I think he had two RS 1999 models (which is what they were originally known as), the other one is also seen on the Hold out your Hand vid. I think.

Welcome to Yesfans bilbo!
OK, here ya go...
Chris used his original 4001 on all of the Yes ablum with exception to "Starship Trooper", he used a newer 4001 on that one. And then on "A Venture" he used a Fender Telecaster bass... Straight from the bass masters amazing memory...

Great! Thanks very much, that's been bugging me for a while.
He also used some sort of effect on trooper if i'm not mistaken?
Also, as you seem to know your stuff, you wouldn't know if there's anywhere that has a chris squire t-shirt would you?:rightG:

No problem man.... I'll check on the particualr effects he used on ST soon...
As for the shirt.... Well there aren't any production Chris shirts that I know of.. Perhaps if he actually tours, which I know he was keen on, after he finishes his solo album there will be some..

Straight form Christopher's site..
"The Rickenbacker 4001 is the hallmark of Chris Squire's career and bass sound. He purchased the model 1999 bass (serial number DC127) in 1965 while an employee of Boosey and Hawkes, LTD, a musical instrument retail business. It was the fourth bass of its kind to be imported into England (Rickenbacker is an American guitar manufacturer)."

Thought he worked at Burns in London!
The guitar to the left is DC205 both Pete's and Chris's were bought the same time during the SYN days.

The Kinks, The Animals and someone else got the other three Ricky basses first in UK, maybe McCartney.
When did Squire get his Moog Taurus bass pedals?

Ta;I don't feel so bad now: my 1948 Northern Hammond BC mid-70s had the 2-octave removable pedals I used to do the backwards-piano first note of 'Roundabout ' with my band.

Bilbobass, the effect Squire used on Starship Trooper was tremolo. He also used it on part of Heart Of The Sunrise (on the album).

Yep, during that late 60's early 70's period, he preferred
the Thunderbird for stage work for it's punch, but-
There she sits, up front.

Of course the one "up front" is a 4008, he and Squire had the two prototype Ric 8-string basses. The Ox sold his original 4001S in the 60s, long before the family photo above was taken.

Ha, well it would be VERY hard to imagine The Animals with a Ric bass. If you have a recording on which Chas Chandler played anything but his Gibson EB-2 or Epiphone Rivoli that would be something.
The other 3 Ric basses in question went to Peter Quaife(The Kinks),John Entwistle(The Who), and Donovan.

I defer to the keeper of the bottom end, sahib.
Good call!
As you can see, keys are my forte.

RM1999 was the model - Identified by the fact that Rose Morris Ltd. imported Rickenbacker instruments directly from CA, USA - the bass of the bunch being the 4001S, alas Rickenbacker 4001S = Rose Morris RM1999 (in England, 1964). Lord knows why.

Indeed, he was issued a Mapleglo (natural) 1971 4001 Deluxe model from Rickenbacker as he (Chris) enjoyed the slightly differing, punchier output from the modernised treble hi-gain pickup.
The Telecaster Bass was a 1969 model with a Maple neck which was rewired to operate in stereo with 4 pots (like a Rickenbacker) - resulting in a extra pickup (humbucker at bridge + cover) being installed.
Roger Glover had an early Ric...
Yup, 1971 4001 Deluxe, Jetglo (black)
Relayer/Solos, 1975-6...
November 1974 :D
