I don't own a DVD player. In all reality, I was planning never to get one because the manner in which I treat any disc with a prism is appaling. I'm notorious for it. Granted, it is possible to change. But for some reason, I was inherently born with monstrous irresponsibility when it comes to caring for anything shiny.

I've heard nothing but the best regarding the Live in Amsterdam DVD and I mean NOTHING BUT! :) I'd imagine the manner in which the concert is filmed is not at all different on VHS.

Is there anyone on this God-forsaken planet that owns a VHS copy and could he/she let me know what material other than the concert itself is included please?

And, I guess for those who own the DVD only; would it be seriously worth going out and getting a DVD player for if you're so damned die-hard for Yes that you write letters of complaint to the International Olympic Committee regarding the possibility of holding an international "King Arthur's Knights Ice Skating Competition" into the next winter games?

Thanks =)

I haven't seen the vhs version, but I understand that the only thing missing from the vhs that is on the dvd is the Don't Go Video and Dreamtime documentary.
You're not missing much as far as the video goes, but the doc. is pretty cool. I don't know how many times you'll watch it, but its worth at least one viewing. Of course the dvd will look and sound better than the vhs, but of course, that depends on the rest of the equipment you have.

I for one, would go the dvd route....and did.

I got this DVD about a week ago and have watched the whole thing thru twice. The entire 1st disc(the 2hr.,37min. video is awesome, the 2nd disc is just okay. The interviews are okay, but nothing earthshatteringly interesting. I was so impressed though with the orchestra and the whole mix, and the keyboard player,Tom was pretty awesome too. The best songs:the epics:CTTE,Ritual, and the best of all:Gates.Starship and LDR were great too, but I was a little put off by the dancing girls on Roundabout. Otherwise, a must get for all die hard fans, and YES I the DVD is worth it-go get a player!

...went out and bought a dvd player a week ago after reading all the glowing reviews about the Symphonic disc (bought that along with it!). The concert video is fantastic, but because of it's length I've only had a chance to watch it all once (in bits and pieces) and the bonus disc also (which is ok).

Now about the dvd player. I bought a Philips 724 and after setting it up I had no problem viewing the Yes dvd. Then I rented a dvd from Blockbuster and attempted to view it, but a message came up that said WRONG REGION. Well, I took it back and exchanged it for a different disc and the same thing happened! Then I tried to view the Yesd dvd and also got the same thing!!

Well, the dvd player was a Region 1 and so, apparently, were all the discs. So I assumed the fault was in the player and took it back and exchanged it for the same player. I hooked it up last night and was able to view the disc from Blockbuster. So this one appears to be working for the moment, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed...:jaw1:

Peace,

Phil

Thanks to all for your suggestions... Earlier this afternoon, the VHS version I'd ordered finally came in. All I can say is; YES!!!! Every review I've heard about this release has lived up to all expectation. I'm sure you're all very well aware of the magnificence of it all by now...

For those interested who have yet to purchase; the VHS does include the documentary footage and the Dont Go video. It was cool to see Dexter 944 S2 in the video as promised. How cool is that?! A YesFan immortalized for all time!! Congratulations, bud! And further kudos go out to the Dutch Yes Fan Club; Focus.

I must admit, I was hoping the Amsterdam fans would have been less polite as we Americans are want to do; just to cheer wildly at the conclusion of a complex piece or adrenaline-pumping solo would have been exacting within my jealous zeal. But I was very pleased to notice a solo demonstration of the notorious "Dutch Idiot Dancing" in the aisles while Magnification was being performed. I'll be sure to take notes and groove accordingly on a future film ;).

At any rate, a moment like this makes me boil over with positive emotion for the one thread we have in common... Long Live the Music of Yes!

I finally got to experience the REAL Symhonic DVD experience yesterday at a friends house, since poor pitiful me only owns a DVD on my computer-I had no idea what I was missing. 400 watts of pure heaven-the orchestra mix was mostly perfect. And Chris' bass-what can I say!!! Alan sounded really great too. We also watched some of Keys and the philadelphia '79 discs-let me tell you-watching the evolving of "Starship Trooper" live over 22 years live was incredible!!! If you own a DVD player with surround sound and your a YES fanatic, and you don't have the Symphonic live yet-Go GET IT RIGHT NOW!!!!!!

Well there,

It was one of our friends in our fanclub YesFocus who appeared on the DVD.
I can tell you: we were absolutely surprised when we saw ourselves on the DVD!

About that air mowing guy in the back, I believe he was taken away by security somewhere at the end of the gig...

Glad you like this DVD!

YES!!!!!!! The sound on this DVD is awesome .. if you have got the Full Monty Dolby Digital 5.1 setup with 2 front, 2 rear, 1 centre speaker and an active subwoofer WOW!!!
If you have only got it playing thru a normal stereo set up you are only getting 25% of the experience .. .. go out and buy the gear to hear this DVD properly. NOW!!!

I'm so glad i decided to upgrade my amplifier to one capable of Dolby digital 5.1 and get the centre speaker and subwoofer, (I already had rears & fronts).

During Chris's solo in Ritual if you give the volume knob a bit of a twist it virtually feels like being at the concert. The earth moved believe me lol .. :)).

I was at a Ladder Tour concert and was right in front of Chris's stacks at one concert so I know what i'm talking about .. :))

If you have to sell your children to finance buying this type of gear . .Just Do It .. :))
You won't regret it ... :))

ok only joking about the kids lol ...
