I notice sometimes when I write a really long message (this happens in PMs too), then send it, a note will come up saying I'm not logged in. I've solved the problem by copying the text before I send. Then if a vNote message comes up, I just re-log in, paste the message into a new reply window, and it's not lost.
Don't know if this is your problem, but this is how I cope with my tendency to be long-winded! LOL

This should never happen -- well except possibly after a site crash or update.
What browser are you using? Have you tried anything yet to fix the problem other than backing up your text by copying it.

Yes2Yes is correct. I had those problems as well until I started clicking that box at login. Now I never have them.
There are after all worse things than being "remembered". Yeah?

Alrighty then, I amend my questions to both posters.
Have you tried anything to fix the problem, starting with checking the "Remember Me" box?

Make sure the "remember me" box is checked when you log on.
What does this box do, anyway? Anything??
Do I need to click it every time I log in?
Enquiring minds want to know!

I have been having the same problem too...and have also been copying my messages before I send, just in case!!
However, I will try the "remember me" tip from now on.
Cheers, guys and gals!

Same here.
Also, I'll log in and the first thing I try to do is view someone's profile. The site says I'm logged off. Argggg!
I'll try the "remember me" box.

You should only need to click it once I think, and after that you will be "remembered" every time you visit the site and won't have to log on at all.

The "Remember Me" box sets a series of cookies that the site recognizes as identifying you, pauli!

You should only log out if security is an issue, for instance, if your have kids who might go to the page and start posting as you.
For some reason if I don't check it every time I log in, it boots me off. When I check it I have no problem.
You might try clearing your YF cookies and then logging back on and checking "Remember Me."
Here's the link for everyone -- it's Tim's link to clear YF cookies. We should all have it bookmarked because sometimes after a crash or a site software upgrade, the cookies need to be cleared to have the login hold.
Tim's YF cookie clearing link (http://www.yesfans.com/mycookies.php)
Everyone who's currently having trouble or who's been logging in without checking the box, you might want to clear your cookies before trying again.
You can do an easy manual edit if you are running a Mozilla-based browser -- Tools|Cookie Manager. Just look for and delete all the YF cookies.

you need to log off occasionally to clear site cookies... especially if you are running slower than normal...
make sure remember me is checked and log off...
then log back on and you should be good to go for a couple weeks

Last night I was off for a few minutes, then when I came back and re-logged in I clicked "remember me." Then last night when I went to bed I didn't log off. Come back on this morning and it said "Welcome, BassFishGirl" without my even logging in! I am staying logged in perpetually from now on; saves time too.
IT'S WORKING!!!!! Thanks guys!

I log out every time I'm done (I am an obsessive cache-clearer), and I always have to log in the next time, whether I have previously checked the box or not. It doesn't seem to make any difference to me, that's why I asked what it's supposed to do.
(and yes, my security is set to accept cookies, etc.)
But I never get booted off or have problems with cookies or smilies etc., so I guess it really doesn't matter! I was just curious :D

You have to log in because when you log out, a cookie signifying logged out status is set, and that's what the site reads next time you go to it.
You never get logged out while composing posts because you check the box on the way in!

Denise, I fixed this by clicking "remember me" (as they said) one time when I logged in. Ever since then I don't have this problem, no matter how long the message is. I also stay logged in perpetually--sure saves time.

I get booted off all the time too.
It's the most frustrating thing... there have been many posts, replies to others, that have been lost and I just don't always have the time to rethink and rewrite them.
It's not your computer.
It's not your browser.
It's not your cookie settings.
I use Explorer... this is the ONLY site that this happens to me on.
My cookie settings are enabled.
Sometimes I remember to click the "remember me" box when I log in, sometimes I don't.
It doesn't matter. I get randomly booted either way. Random is the key word. I've seen no clear pattern to when it decides to do this.
Sometimes I remember to save my post to a text file BEFORE I take the chance and hit the
Russian Roulette SEND/SELF-DESTRUCT button...
....but it's not a habit so sometimes I don't.... that's when I get booted!!
This problem only began happening after Tim did some kind of update and uploaded some new software for the site.
I believe the problem is in the update.
But we've been through this before.
Tim apparently can't locate the source of the problem so he says it's "on our end".
But I don't believe that.
I've been labelled a "complainer" however, so my "complaints" are trivialized, seen as an annoyance.
Seems I'm not the only "complainer"..... ;)

Have you tried clearing the cookies using Tim's link that I posted on page one of this thread?
Also, clear your temp internet files and your history file.
Give that a shot and see if it works.
And if you don't check remember me, then for sure you'll get booted out sometime during a session, most probably just after you've written the war and peace of posts or PMs.
If you don't share the computer, there's no need to log out, and then there will be no need to remember to check the "remember me" each time you come back. Once you check it and you don't log out, absent an upgrade or crash, you should stay "remembered."

PS - Sometimes I accept the "boot" as a command from the computer gods that I've got more important things I should be doing than wasting time at this forum!! In those cases I just move on and do other things....

See you later, I've other things I need to be doing right now.... :winknudge

Everytime you clear your cookies, you're going to have to do remember me again.
If you're trying to get rid of unwanted tracking cookies, then there are better ways -- deleting all your cookies every few days really throws the baby out with the bathwater, especially in this case. Let me know if you want me to point you in the direction of clearing unwanted tracking cookies.
