Hello Yesfans,
I came across your site off of Yesworld a few days ago. Until recently I never had time to join a fan site or spend time on computer doing anything but work. In fact I have never even been in a chat room. My name is Steve, and I live in South Austin with my love Terri, my exceptional daughter Stephanie, and an excellant tabby named Skittles.
I was born in Sandringham England. I was a military brat, and my parents retired in a dreadful redneck west Texas town called Abilene, my friends and I have always called it Drabilene.
Music, music, music...Yes, Yes, Yes. I love all music, but Yes is the only thing I listen to every day. Paul Weller is a close second. My tweenage daughter calls me a Yesgeek, but that works okay with me. I do surround myself with music whenever I can. I like having a soundtrack for my life.
I started getting into r&r at about age 8 (1968). My brother was 18, so I was exposed to Beatles, Stones, Zep, Hendrix etc...
Around Christmas 72 I heard a song called "And You and I" and thought, WOW, there is something unusual and beautiful going on here! It has been a musical love affair ever since.
My first Yesshow was GFTO '77 in Abilene. This is the same Abilene that is the subject of a Yessong of the same name. The most recent show I have seen was 2002 in Bee Cave, Texas. I was able to take my then 7 year old daughter, it is so cool seeing a young person getting their first taste of live Yes! In between I have been fortunate enough to see about a dozen Yesshows.
Prog music is my mainstay, YES, CRIMSO, MANZENERA, PTREE, UK, ELP, ELO, MOODY BLUES, TOD, RUSH, CRACK THE SKY, UTOPIA, BOZZIO LEVIN STEVENS, VELVET HAMMER, ZAPPA, ETC...
I also love country- WILLIE, LYLE, JACKOPIERCE, PATSY CLINE, DON WALSER, DANA COOPER, JOHNNY CASH, FLATLANDERS, ROBERT EARL KEEN, ETC...
My blues favs are STEVIE RAY AND JIMMIE VAUGHAN, THE THREE KINGS (ALBERT, BB, AND FREDDY) LOU ANN BARTON, ALBERT COLLINS, PINETOP PERKINS, BUDDY GUY, BILLIE HOLIDAY, SLIM HARPO, ETTA JAMES, GATEMOUTH BROWN ETC...
My local favs. past and present are THE VAUGHAN BROTHERS, LOU ANN BARTON, MARCIA BALL, ROKY ERICKSON, ERIC JOHNSON, AL ESCOVEDO, MONTE MONTGOMERY, WILLIE, JOE ELY, DOUG SAHM, IAN MCLAGIN, TRUE BELIEVERS, VAN WILKS, KELLY WILLIS,DOYLE BRAMHALL, IAN MOORE, ETC... This is a great town for live music. Wednesday night I saw Double Trouble (Stevie Rays rhythm section) with Joe Ely for free at my nieghborhood park
My misc picks are PAUL WELLER , STYLE COUNCIL, BIRD, RL BURNSIDE, KATE BUSH , NIRVANA, ENYA, DYLAN, GRATEFUL DEAD, NEIL YOUNG, BECK, PAATI SMITH, U2, X, ETC...
Lets see, did I keave anyone out? Of course I did but I sure you get the idea. I really like all types of music. There is great music in all genres, and there is garbage in all kinds of music. I THINK IF YOU ARE LISTENING TO ONLY ONE GENRE OF MUSIC YOU ARE CHEATING YOURSELF. But I always seem to going back to Yes , no matter what my daily musical preferences are.
I am not into the whole Steve vs. Trevor, Alan vs. Bill, ultimate lineup kind of thing I see so much of on Notes From The Edge. Lets face it, all of the Yes alumni are fantastic players, and all have brought something positive to the evolution of Yes, and I love them all.
I am looking forward to sharing with all of you on this wonderful site. One thing, I am alittle slow on the keyboard ( arthritis), so please take no offence if I do not reply quickly.
PEACE,
STEVE
