Ok, I've read the track listing for the new boxed ("In A Word: Yes") set several times and must be missing something because "Awaken" is nowhere to be found. Howe can this be???

I must admit, I'm completely confused by this thread. The only tunes I could imagine being bummed about are those not previously released. Don't you have a copy of GOING FOR THE ONE yet? Maybe you're only going to buy the boxed sets instead of all of the original albums. That would almost make sense were it not for the fact that the original albums contain many more important pieces than could ever fit into single collection.

If you're jonesin’ for a song that's already available (studio, live, video, etc.) then maybe you ought to check to be sure that they've included "Roundabout", "I've Seen All Good People" and "Owner of a Lonely Heart". You wouldn't want anything important to be left out now, would you?

For all of your information, awaken was on the last box set back in 1991 on disc 3. Plus if you don't have a recording of awaken by now then you are an idiot!!!!

Now that's a bummer. :nono:

Hey, if they're going to try to get us to waste our money on songs that we already have in the name of improved sound quality, then they might as well choose the best songs, and you can't go wrong with "Awaken."

While I won't take offense at the "idiot" comment from Mr. Washack, the point I was making is that there's a heckuva lot of crossover from YesYears to In A Word for one thing. I have "Awaken" and can listen to it any time I please, of course. But in the context of all the choices of tunes we've ALL heard so many times, "Awaken" would/should be a logical selection to include. I mean, why not? Would you really rather hear some of the other tunes over "Awaken?" I can think of several that could easily have been replaced. Especially given the running and disc order of the tracks and how "interesting" the combinations are (or aren't, depending on your POV). It seems to me that a key period piece like "Awaken" would have fit nicely into this new framework and seems a glaring omission, especially given Jon's love for the song. Just MHO That's all. No dummies here, BTW.

What they really should have done (and I realize I'm stating the obvious here) is include a rare, live version of "Awaken". My first choice would be from the UNION tour, but that's another story.

I was hoping it would contain new and long lost treasures of live material with some of the unreleased songs & some outtakes of songs like Trooper& HOTS, GOD, CTTE & Perpetual Change & so on. Drifting endlessly, like a bridge, to be over

And, stevepenn, I have found your contributions to this forum thusfar to be delightful. We're glad to have you aboard Yesfans!!

As far as Awaken not being included, I can see where some folks may not mind, but consider someone as my best friend, whom I just "converted" last year, by taking her to the Yes Symphonic show in Chicago.

She has very few Yes CDs....In the last year, she bought Yessongs, and me, of course, being the Moraz freak that I am, insisted she get Relayer!!....and she bought Mag immediately after the show. Anyway, she has been looking forward to this boxed set, thinking it'd be a great way for her to have a well-rounded collection of all the best of Yes, without having to piece together all the individual discs. So......I, for one, am disappointed Awaken is not included, also, for her, and for what must be many people like her.

(Luckily, we happened across a little oddity, while shopping together at Best Buy, called Yes Extended Versions which has Khatru, Awaken, America et al from Keys on it, and we each bought a copy for like $7 bucks or something. So, all's well that ends well)

Peace
~Riff.

I have a copy of GFTO that has seen better days (I could say that about half of my cd collection after the last move). After 14 years, its about time I replenished my collection, and after all that abuse, I will need a concise boxset...and Awaken is a must!

I've gotten a lot of mileage out of the CDs that I started collecting back in 1988. My copy of Big Generator that I bought the day after the concert isn't even rip-able! If that isn't proof of listenability, I don't know what is.
