The comments and opinions I've been reading on the new DVD thread have prompted me to ask of everyone's opinion of the quality of the live mixes at Yes concerts. I for one have seen every tour since CTTE in 1972 and listening perhaps way to close. I was lucky enough to get a DAT recording taken from the FOH mix position for the OYE's tour and it only confirmed my frustrations. The live mixes have been IMHO pathetic. I can get very specific with my comments if anyone is interested. Please share your's.

Clair Bros. owes it to Yes to put their BEST man in the drivers seat.

I tend to agree. There is only one live show I've experienced with Yes where the
FOH engineer blew me away by providing to us as fans and listeners, a true
representation of energy and creativity, of what the band was delivering.
Unfortunately, he went on to mix for Tina Turner.

This should not be such voodoo as ticket purchasing fans, really shouldn't
be concerned with who is mixing. They want it to sound awesome, period!

It is also very sad that the average concert attendee, has such little knowledge
of what a live FOH engineer does. Some still can't differentiate him from a
Deejay who thumps you silly in dance clubs. This includes... Yup, you guessed
it, Yes fans.

In my opinion, it is hit or miss with a FOH guy who sticks with an act or not.
In this case, we are stuck with who Clair Bros. sends out on the tour.
The band reserves the right to ask him back if he does well. That is, if
he is available and whether tour A pays better than tour B. It all comes down
to the good old bottom dollar. Lets face it! The best FOH guys are pulling in a
pretty penny and it's sad to say but in most cases, you get what you pay for.

Some bands have their own engineer i.e.: (Rush, Elton John, Steely Dan)
just to name a few, who will be there every tour to mix their band whoever
the sound company is and they are titled: FOH/BE.

We can only hope that with Rick back in the fold that we will be blessed with
a true performer at FOH. It takes team work to make that happen. we need
more voices from Yes fans to make it apparent that we know who spins records
and who spins the heads of true Yes listeners, who appreciate team work in the back
of the hall as well. A professional listener & long-time Yes fan, too.

I don't go to too many concerts anymore, but I always thought Yes's sound was pretty good.
