Whew...I can't believe I never noticed that link from Yesworld to here before! I was looking for the lyrics to Tales from Topo, got a little close to the edge, and now apparently I've fallen over it! LOL

My name is Andrea; I'm 20 and live in northern Indiana. Before I say anything about the band that brought me here, let's see what other bands we have in common. I adore Pink Floyd more than any band I've ever known, but Yes, Led Zeppelin, Styx and REO Speedwagon (in no certain order) round out my top five. Other favorites are AC/DC, Boston, Aerosmith, Van Halen, The Beatles, Def Leppard, Bad Company, The Who, Fleetwood Mac, The Rolling Stones...in fact, name any classic rock artist, there's probably a 50/50 chance that I like at least some of their work! Bands with keyboards are my greatest love, though often my favorite band member is the bass player.

I've been hearing Yes music on the radio for years, but only last November did I get started when I picked up the Ultimate Yes. It's only 10 months later and I have nearly every studio album, starting with The Yes Album and ending with Keys to Ascension. I have just about every live release from that time period also, including the Yessongs and 9012Live DVDs. I've been debating getting Yesshows, but I've heard some criticisms of it and I'm not sure yet.

AND THEN there are the solo and Yes related recordings I've acquired. For Chris Squire (my favorite Yes member, indeed!) I have Fish out of Water and The Syn's Syndestructible. I have a Rick Wakeman '70s best-of and the first of his Two Sides of Yes CDs. Steve Howe is even more represented: the one and only Tomorrow album, both of his Asia albums, as well as Beginnings, The Steve Howe Album, and Not Necessarily Acoustic are all in my collection. I just ordered Quantum Guitar the other day, and I can't wait. OMG almost forgot I have the ABWH album also!

I also own all four of Trevor Rabin's solo albums, his even earlier band Rabbitt, plus two film soundtracks. Yep that's right, I'm such a hopeless Rabin nut, that I've seen several movies he's done the score for. LOL Don't worry, I don't just see them to "see" them, I require myself to have an interest in the subject first. :lmao: Armageddon is my favorite (I love sci fi an fantasy). Trevor has 3 movies coming out next month, 2 of which I want to see in theaters--an opportunity I haven't yet had. Oh please tell me there are other Yes freaks out there just like me who would do crazy stuff like that!

I've already set up my profile, so feel free to peruse it and ask about anything on there you see interesting. Now that my summer job has ended, I'll probably be here constantly until college starts up again. LOL

I am SO jealous! Unfortunately I didn't discover Floyd until 2001, and as for live stuff I have to live vicariously through the Pompeii and Pulse DVDs. LOL What tour did you see them on? I would've loved to see them any time, whether Waters was there or not. Maybe I'll get to see Gilmour and Wright if and when the "On an Island" tour comes to the States. Did I mention in my first post that I love keyboard players? ;)

Oh and RIP Syd Barrett...what a great mind he had. I wrote a poem in tribute to him that I might eventually post in the "Other Bands" forum. I also named one of our newest pet chickens after him--that bird has a personality and a look to fit the source of his name!

Thanks for the welcome everybody. I still have to go through the old posts on the other forums, but eventually I'll catch up. BTW, in real life I'm not that big of a chatterbox, but get me online or get me talking about music and a huge transformation occurs.
Right now I'm going to go listen to Tales from Topo, with the lyrics that I was looking for all along, so that I may begin to understand it.:headset:

Nothing wrong with being silly--that just means you're extra enthusiastic about what you love. If you think this is crazy, you should see the REO message board I'm on. Those people are absolutely insane! I just hope you don't deviate from topic the way they do in nearly every thread...it's weird.

While I was listening to Topo I looked through the music collection that Dad and I share, and here are some other favorite music I didn't mention the first time through:

Deep Purple - The Doors - Eagles - John Mellencamp (he's an Indiana native just like me)
Journey - Night Ranger - U2 - George Thorogood - The Yardbirds -
I am not much into modern rock, but Train strikes a chord with me that most others don't.

I also love African world music. I got started on it at 8 years old, when I first saw The Lion King. Then I got into rock and didn't listen to African stuff for a while, but then came Yes and my fascination with Trevor Rabin. Hearing his African-flavored Can't Look Away reawakened those tribal rhythms within me, and I've since bought a couple more African music CDs. Thank you Mr. Rabin!!

I should also mention that when I was little, I used to listen to classical and orchestral stuff a lot, but finding rock got me away from that too. But once again, thanks to Yes, orchestral music has made a comeback in my life!

Hi Jim,
First I have to admit that I haven't heard enough Genesis to really judge them or spike an interest. All the Genesis played on the radio around here is with Phil Collins singing. I have heard plenty of both Gabriel and Collins solo though, and if I had to pick one I'd definitely go with Gabriel. I think he's done some experimental world music, am I right?

Second, I love your avatar! What computer program did you make that on? When I saw your username and pics I was inspired to listen to Relayer today. I simply adore the whole album, but "Sound Chaser" is my favorite of the tracks. :)

Thanks, Ms. Rabinologist! LOL I was hooked on Trevor's work from day one of my Yes fandom--"Owner of a Lonely Heart" was one of the 2 or 3 songs that made me a Yes fan. In fact, other than the Ultimate Yes compilation, 90125 was the first Yes studio album I ever bought. I got various albums from all eras soon after, but I made a special point of getting Big Generator and Talk after finding out who was on them. ;)

I hope you've seen or own the reissued 9012Live DVD. If you have, what do you think of the backstage documentary? I found it an absolute riot that had me laughing harder than I had in a long time. Even my mom (who is about 5 years older than TR) said, "That Trevor IS a cutie." :lmao:

Rock on Cinderella! :heydude: (sheesh that reminds me of Def Lep LOL) Between you and I there will be many more Rabin discussions to come!

I love that DVD. Trevor is hilarious. LOL! I was watching 9012LIVE several years ago and my mom said, "Who that, he's really pretty." :winknudge

I think I even converted the pizza delivery guy once. I was playing the 9012LIVE video and while waiting for me to get the money to pay him, he heard Hold On on the TV, and wanted to know who the band and guitar player was. I told him and I hope he went out and bought the album.

My first Genesis album was Foxtrot and I never looked back from then (until they went "off" after Duke).

So, I'd recommend:

Foxtrot
The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
Nursery Cryme
Trespass

I used photoshop for my Avatar and Signature and Yes album fonts for the text.
I also prefer the Peter Gabriel/Steve Hackett era.
You would love Peter Gabriel live with Tony Levin on bass.

I've seen REO twice in concert, last July and this past March. How do you like their bassist Bruce? The solo he does at the beginning of "Back on the Road Again" is killer! Bruce is my favorite member of the current lineup, though their keyboardist Neal is awesome too. :)

Here's Bruford--this guy is a bear!

Whitey--I named this one after the other drummer, and kept the name even though it turned out to be a girl:

Nice pic!!

Yeah, REO was tremendous. We actually stumbled across that show by accident. We were at a Tall Ships festival in Michigan and REO was the featured band that night (we had no idea they were there) so we stayed and my gosh, what a great surprise! I've always thought their guitar player was awesome, but the whole band were really smokin' that night!

Hi Kathy,
I get the impression that there aren't many Yesfans in Indiana or the Midwest? Especially Indiana, where I'm a rebellious liberal living in a conservative state! You might describe as an eccentric, just like a certain blond keyboard player we all know well.

LOL! Well...I belong to a forum for REO's bassist Bruce Hall, where Bruce himself sometimes comes in and posts. I mentioned that I'd named a rooster after him, and Bruce said "I'm sure that's a first," but I think he was pleased.

I did have a rooster named Chris, but we had to put the poor guy down recently due to an incurable illness. There's another chick I'm really getting to like that I think I might call Squire. Here's a pic--do you think that's a good name for him?

http://i1.tinypic.com/2007llv.jpg

This little guy already has an interesting story: Sometime yesterday we realized he was missing, and we thought sure he'd died or been killed by a raccoon. But my mom was in the barn an hour or so ago, went to move an upside-down bucket, and there he was underneath! He's doing fine now; he's got some spirit (and probably a good sense of humor), that's for sure. I would really like to know what that chick did to get under the bucket, though...

All right, I'm going to call that little guy Squire! Things haven't been the same around here since I lost my roo Christopher. But this young chick has the personality and spirit to fit his name, maybe even more than the first named after Chris.

BTW, for those wondering, mini-Squire's feathers are supposed to be crazy like that! Some chicken breeds have a gene called "frizzle" that can make feathers grow backwards. Among our frizzled birds, we find that they often have personalities unique enough to match their looks. ;)

That little chickie does fit in the palm of my hand now (but he'll grow), so he probably could get into that tea cosy fairly well. BTW, just gotta say, I'm a tea drinker myself. I like to EAT fish is what I do! LOL I've only had the opportunity to fish at free fishing weekends or Girl Scout camps, but I did enjoy it. I caught a croppie once just for fun, and let it go again.

My username does come out of a bass fishing thing though. My mom gets monthly updates from the local DNR, and one email this spring was about the population of bass in Indiana rivers. I was trying to read the email aloud, and when I got to the phrase "bass fish," I pronounced it like base instead of class. It was so funny I even laughed at myself! :lmao: The phrase stuck with me as kind of a Yes/Chris Squire inside joke between my parents and me, and when I came here I knew exactly what moniker I had to use. Aww heck no! We've disposed of a couple really mean human-attacking roosters that way, but other than that they are pets. I don't think I could eat something I named after so many of my favorite rock musicians, or my favorite bassist's girlfriend!!!!!! ;) Most of ours are bantams, and all free-range, so there wouldn't be much good meat on them anyway. The roosters we ate were kinda tough as a result of free ranging.

Hmm--Whitefish--cool username you've got there. No question why you liked my avatar! Definitely one of the greatest rhythm sections in the history of rock, though more than a rhythm section they are...

I love that Story because I have a bumper sticker on my truck that reads
Everyone Follows
The Bass Player
I've been asked by several people now (like when I stop at a local conveince store) and I'm getting gas or whatever and they come up to me and say - Are you a bass player (but they are saying bass as in class) not base....I get a kick out of that everytime.....Of course I live in Alabama too, so I guess eveyone around here is into bass (like class) fishing....hehe

and being a bass player I wanted to have that on my bumper on the truck.

when i found out that Trevor Rabin was in a band called Rabbitt before he joined YES i started looking for stuff and the only thing i found was a vinyl on Ebay. I ordered it and it came from far in the states and i live in Ottawa, Canada. It was in good shape when it arrived !

Hi and welcome! Glad you're a Trevor Rabin fan. Excellent!!

I've got all the Rabbitt albums on vinyl and also on CD. My first came from a guy in Johannesburg, South Africa 23 years ago. The others came from a guy in London. No such thing as Ebay when I got mine, I had to do it the hard way, corresponding through the mail.

Enjoy the site! http://www.millan.net/minimations/smileys/hellosmiley.gif

Hi everybody ! I'm also new here !

Well i'm also a YES collector and when i found out that Trevor Rabin was in a band called Rabbitt before he joined YES i started looking for stuff and the only thing i found was a vinyl on Ebay. Welcome, welcome, indeed! Its great having another Trevor fan aboard. You will find that we are somewhat in the minority here, but we are a very dedicated and vocal minority. I love your avitar and signature, btw. The Trevor era (aka YesWest) is by far my favorite Yes era, and 90125 is my most favorite of all prog/rock etc albums, hands down. It is a perfect 10 for me: all hits, no errors. This Yes album gets the most play of all for me. I would like to think I am the biggest Trevor fan here, but I know that Cindy and JaneE, at a minimum, would challenge that statement! I just know I can't get enough of Trevor's music, be it Yes, solo, Rabbit, or his soundtrack music.

OMG...if you ever thought of eating Little Mr. Squire I would cry for days

I am going to have a song written for him..

Little Mr. Squire...you're always on fire!!!!

LIttle Mr. Squire....who we will always desire!!!!

Little Mr. Squire don't sell your meat for hire!

(I have no idea what that meant but I just love Little Mr. Squire)

NONONONONO Screed I would never never ever in all my life think of doing anything to hurt the little guy! That's why I name my birds, because they are favorites and giving them endearing names protects them!! I wouldn't even be able to give mini-Squire away without kicking myself.

Love your chant-poem Screedy. :hearts:

I'm a huge Rabin fan too! But I'm also a huge Howe fan (got Quantum Guitar today--lovely). I like the feeling of being the go-between, like a mediator, and having the best of both worlds. Howe and Rabin can play each others' material, but they are different enough that it's hard to truly compare them and do justice to either one.

Love all, serve all, be all, that's me. After all, I can do that when my favorite Yesman is the ONE who has appeared on every album. ;)

Hugs to everybody, Rabinites, Howe fans, Wakeys and Kayes and the rest included!

BTW, forgot to mention that I found an easier way to get the Rabbitt albums. I got mine on CD Universe for extremely reasonable prices. (like $12 each) And not only that, but it gives you a list of "customers who bought this item also bought..." and I found the one-and-only Tomorrow CD that way. Apparently someone was like me and was thinking of Rabin and Howe at the same time! :D I think all CDs were imports, but they were very nice reissues for the prices I paid. The Tomorrow one especially.

Thanks all for the warm welcome !!! Also thanks for the info about the cd's on CDUNIVERSE.com... Like Luckeydoug1 said, 90125 is definitely a great album. This is the album that made me discover YES. I then got CLASSIC YES and was introduced to another dimension of the band, their earlier stuff. Then i started getting every album and i'm still looking for YES related stuff 20 years later !

LMAO Cin...I didn't think of it that way. I was just trying to think of a collective term for Trevor fans, and Rabinites sounded good!

Now what would we call Howe worshippers?

Howeites (well maybe not)

Howetians (eww...even worse)

Quantum Rondos (now I might be on to something)

Rondo Mongers (hmmm....)

What's everyone else think?

At least Wakesters know who they are!

This is both a very interesting and entertaining thread.

Guess who I might prefer ;) That by no means is disrespect to the bible thumpers here ;)

Quantum is excellent! Enjoy it!

Oops, now I feel like a huge jerk. I just realized I welcomed someone else to the site in the middle of the post and never welcomed you. Well, since we have been exchanging posts in other threads I feel like I already know you, but.... a very belated..... welcome to YesFans. I have been hanging around here nearly a year now and have 'met' many wonderful, helpful friendly people here. Yeah, we Rabonites take some friendly knocks from time to time, but its all part of the game. Since you are also a big Howe fan, you should have no trouble here :D . Seriously, it is a great site and I am glad you found your way here.
