View Full Version : Hi guys. Dale here. What's up?

Hello all.
Nothing much has changed at my end. Still drumming and practicing like a mad man. I have been getting in about 10 hours a day on a pad. Plus percussion practice. I now live in a house so full of drums and percussion, I had to toss out furniture! This made life interesting the other week when there was a blackout and I had to get out of my bed and dress for work. My bed being surrounded by no less than 3 fully laden percussion tables.

Lucky for me my mobile has a little blue light. ;)

I am still working crazy hours, about 60 hours a week.

Haven't listened to Yes in quite a while. Hopefully they'll release something new soon.

What else has been happening?? Oh yeah, a mate of mine wants me to become an importer of percussion instruments into Australia. The only thing holding me back is my concern that the market here is too small to make the effort worthwhile.

There you have it. Exciting eh?

Hi Dale

How are the neighbours?

:dog:

Hi mate.
I play on my rubber pad at home. All the other instruments I practice at work. In this hotel, if one looks into every nook and cranny, one will find:
3 congas.
1 set of bongos with stand.
1 zabumba bass drum.
1 pandeiro.
1 tamborim.
1 large triangle.
1 guiro.
1 rebolo.
1 reco reco.
1 hi hat.
1 snare drum.
1 bass drum pedal practice pad.
1 bata drum.
1 cajon.
1 berimbau.
1 udu drum.
10 shakers of different kinds.
1 shekere.
2 tambourines.
1 bodhran.
1 set of timbales.

As you may imagine, I've worked here for a while. My boss doesn't care. In fact he enjoys it. Sometimes I jam with the guests.

At home I must seem like a ghost. I listen to all my music and TV through headphones and work nights. Nobody ever sees me.

My family's doing well. My brother has just had a successful run of plays in Australia and even in Singapore. My nephew is working on major movies and has made his own short film.

Life is good. A bit samey at times. But that's how it is. I am thinking of moving to south America.....

How's life with you?

His last effort was very nice. I still need to get some of his more recent work. But to be honest, I try not to listen to drummers anymore. I don't want their ideas. I want to do something of my own. So far this hasn't been going well because I have no idea of where it is I want to go. In fact I don't want to be a drummer anymore. You know, all that playing the hi hat, snare, bass drum and whatnot. It's been done. It now bores me to death and I've lost all interest.

I have a lesson in the morning! ;)

Ha ha. Good onya!

I still don't own a camera. But I am thinking of buying one. I noticed one of the local pawn brokers has some decent cameras for under $100.00.

I'm just so slack about it all. There is a photographer here at work who wants to take photos of all my gear, but it's a matter of 1. having all the gear in one place. 2. being bothered.

Hey ST, you ya doin'?

Yeah my back has improved. So much so I am beginning to play drumset again. Over the last few years I'd ignored drumset and focused on percussion, you know, congas, timbales, bata and the like. I really think I've grown as a result. I still have my drumset chops, but they need cleaning up. Especially my feet. If I were to sit down with a kit it'd take about 1 month to get everything back up to speed. (This shows the benefit of practice)

My humour? Yeah, it's normally the reverse of everyone elses. I'll never learn. :D

Thanks for the welcome.
