Last I was (re)listening to ABWH and was looking at the credits of the different songs in the booklet.
I was surprised by some strange names and some not so strange:
-Brother Of Mine:
part 3. Long Lost Brother Of Mine -> by ABWH & Geoff Downes
-Birthright -> by ABWH & Max Bacon
How did G. Downes and M. Bacon get involved ?
-Quartet:
part 2. She Gives Me Love -> by ABWH & Ben Dowling
-Order Of The Universe:
part 2. Rock Gives Courage -> by ABWH & Rhett Lawrence
Who are B. Dowling and R. Lawrence ?

I'm betting that BOM, and Birthright came out of the GTR era (Downes was their producer, Bacon the singer)...Not sure who the other composers are...the fact that ABW&H all get writing credit for each song could be a contractual agreement...

Rhett Lawrence ia a much sought after producer these days. Most recently worked with Kelly Clarckson of American Idol fame. I believe Jon worked with Rhett on the City of Angels Cd.

I can field the Downes and Bacon tunes... these guys did not actually collaborate with Steve during the ABWH phase... they were tunes that Howe first developed with Asia and GTR, respectively, but were never recorded with those acts... once Howe submitted them as material for the ABWH album, he rightfully gave credit to the co-composers of each tune...

Given that ABWH further developed these songs might lead one to believe that they didn't have a whole lot of material of their own.
It seems to have been put together quickly. ABWH came out in June of 89 (wow 19 years ago!), and my recollection is that Jon's departure from Yes was announced in December of 88.

I do recall an announcement on the radio from 12/88; it was something to the effect of, "Jon Anderson has left Yes and is forming a new band. And just wait until you hear who's in it: Steve Howe, Rick Wakeman and Bill Bruford." I couldn't believe it. They went on to say that band would be called "Reunion" (anyone else remember this?), but for some reason they went with a much longer name. Perhaps the people who wrote "Life Is A Rock" objected?

In January 89, I heard on a syndicated rock news update on WXRK in NYC that The Affirmative was a name they were considering.

Yes, it was originally a J&V demo from 1986. A beautiful version as well!

Never heard of the Demo but this is a good song.
J & V did some good work together.
