Maybe it's not right but for third track of CTTE always was usual mid-statistic Yes track. And it's great suit for album as a perfect outro attachment, but not as another significant thing from Anderson, Squire and company. AYAI and CTTE sound much stronger, maybe. But it's only my opinion.
What your point about it ?

Ack! It is tres signicant. It always threw me that it was track 3 and not 2. Makes more sense that AYAI be the last track. The song is strong. The whole album- 3 peas in a pod. Just right.

Starless,
Ive never considered the three songs from ctte as comparable. Each compliment and contrast each other perfectly. Siberian is closer to a straight rocker, bluesy if you slowed it down. It has all the elements of a perfect Yes song, especially the climax. Best or worst piece on the album? It cant be put that way. Ed

It's a fabulous track. It fits in totally on the album.

First, your opinion is very interesting. You're the first person I've run into that believes it to be a weak(er) track, but everyone has their own tastes. AYAI and CTTE are more revered in Yes lore as they are performed at nearly every concert, and I'm thinking that SK could be seen as weaker in comparison.

However, I personally loved SK the first time I heard it. It has a great feel to it, even the 15/2-metered repetitive section. I wish it would be played more often.

Interesting about wishing they'd play it more.... It was their opening track for tons of concerts in the 70's. Rather predictably so, no? And then they resurrected it for that spot on the 2002 Full Circle Tour when Rick rejoined. Compared to some things I'd like to hear live more often, they've played this one alot. It's also lead off tune on Keys I, Yessongs.... By the way I think it's a great song. It was Bill's favorite from the album. Certainly AYAI is more majestic.... but better or not doesn't enter my thinking on this.

Siberian has always been one of my FAVORITE YES SONGS! There IS NO WEAK SONG on CTTE. Siberian takes off right from the start and burns right across side 2 like a LASER BEAMMMM of joy. One of YES's best songs to drive to on a long empty rural freeway. (but watchout for the highway patrol)

It's one of the funkiest songs Yes ever did - and I mean that in a good way. Just love that Chris Squire bass line. If this song does not make you want to get up and groove to the music - then man, you dead!

SK happens to contain one of my favourite instrumental passages ever. Nuff said. CTTE wouldn't be CTTE without SK in the mix, it's as simple as that... The title track is my clear favourite among the three, but as to which I prefer between AYAI and SK, I honestly couldn't tell.

Just listen to the drive this song has!! I second what Purple Wolfhound said about that right before me, lol. It really is now wonder they opened with this track for so long -it's a perfect song for that.

Siberian Khatru is one of my favorite Yesongs.

I never tire of hearing it, whether the original album track, the version from Glasgow '76, or mid-show Hawaii (my personal favorite!).

'Luther in time, suntower, dancing..."

Howe is in the pocket, it may be the most representative Yessong the band has ever recorded.

If I were to attempt to explain to a neophite, what YES was all about in one single track, I would pick Siberian Khatru.

HOTS is next, but Siberian Khatru has experientially been my first choice, as to initiating new believers to the band.

What everyone else has said, plus!-----

The morphing the song undergoes...!Always returning to the same place or places, but those changes!!Yes indeed the song epitomizes Yes!!This is another one in a long list of Yestunes which only improve with time and each and every listen.Compositionally it is genius, pure and unadulterated inspiration.I used to question the reasoning behind ending Close To The Edge with Siberian also, but the years and the band have taught me why.

Their finest opener.

Funky, yep.Rockin',yep(one reason I believe that they placed it at the end of the album). But also beautiful, too. And, especially in those transitional parts.Gorgeous.

Yes is one of a very, very small number of bands that can combine the above qualities in one song, or into their sound.Which again begs the question...oh nevermind...you guys know the question!

Earl says it best here. I've also said i felt "Siberian Khatru" captures all that is YES in 1 track's worth of music. Great tune !!

I love SK, the driving drums.... I personally think this where Bruffy really stands out.. It's the one that he shines on from CTTE to my ears at least. The weakest link on the album probably yes it is... But that's not such a bad thing on one of the greatest albums in the Yes catalog. You know, I always thought it was a good song for the band to warm up with a the concert opener.. That is until they played it mid-way through the set in Hawaii 2003! Man the rocked the house with it, playing the song after they'd hit thier stride!

The song just plain rocks! :band:

exactly
jeez it really bugs me to here anyone suggect that Siberian is the weaker track on CTTE. Weak And Khatru just do not belong in the same sentence.

It truly captures all that is YES in one brilliantly concise effort. If I want to pick one jammin YES song to rock 'n funk to, Khatru from the Studio Album or Keys 1 Live is my first choice. "Weak", not in your wildest imagination
