I would like to draw my fellow Yes fans' attention to these two tracks from 90125. I voted for Hearts as my fave song from this album as I've always loved the feels of this track. Also, I was blown away when I saw Yes perform it on the 2000 tour at the Albert Hall. I never thought I'd see a line up without Trevor play that song, but it was certainly a great thrill to see it performed. Our Song to me is a mini Yes classic. It has a driving, electric tone to it which fills me with energy and vitality whenever I hear it. In fact I always feel like dancing whenever I listen to its frenetic rhythms.

I totally agree. I have said it before - that album has such a unique sound and feel - mostly due to the Trevors.

There's also a very interesting version of HEARTS on Jon's CHANGE WE MUST cd - which has Jon backed by an orchestra.
And doesn't OUR SONG rock? I love Squire's bass lines on this one. I wouldn't complain if they played it again.

Our Song is amazing, I set up (another) poll somewhere where you can mark it out of 10. It's great, Squires best work in Yes, and the second best Trevor-era track (after Make It Easy).

Hearts is great too...new Yes doing old Yes, and it works! I like it after about 5 minutes when the theme repeats.

Shame that Steve won't play these :(

Our Song: Squire's best work?? Is this a joke? I think 90125 is a pretty good album, but have you ever listened to Squire on for example Yessongs, Relayer or Drama and a dozen of other albums? Even with YesWest Squire did better things than Our Song like I'm running and It can happen.

OUR SONG is far from Fishy's best playing in Yes, but it still packs a good punch. Chris Squire's bass runs help make OUR SONG a great track. His best work in Yes? HEART OF THE SUNRISE, YOURS IS NO DISGRACE and RITUAL come to mind here...

.....Long distance runaround-The Fish, Gates of delirium, Parallels, On the silent wings of freedom, Does it really happen, Tempus Fugit........

The list just goes on and on, doesn't it? Good old Fishy. :)

Yeah, our hero. I met him once, he walked out the tourbus after we called him. I shook his enormous hands and he was really friendly asking us if we liked the show. We have to be thankfull to him for all his input in Yes, both musically as well as the man who always takes care about the direction Yes goes. Cheers Fishy...

I don't have any hearing impairments....

BUT

If I were to go deaf it would be at least some consolation that I'd still be able to feel Squire's bass notes pulsating!

OUR SONG is playing in my headphones right now. It's an incredible song, even though many many more are much better!

I think the fact that Hearts and Our Song are some of the best that Yeswest did on 90125 can be attributed mainly (sp?) to the fact that Anderson had major input on those two cuts from 90125. Those are my favorite songs on that album as well!

It was my opinion and no joke. Of course I own those albums, or I wouldn't be here.

Maybe if your a musician you can tell minor differences in bass sounds. I can't. Maybe technically those songs are better. But all I know is that I love the bass in Our Song. It is also one of my favourite Yes songs, even though it was "only" Yeswest.

People have different tastes in things. A fact of life.

Did these songs originate with Jon, or were they also in progress before he became involved with Cinema? They are the two songs where his name comes first in the writing credits, so I have always wondered.

In a related question, I wonder what Jon's writing credit in "Changes" is based on - it seems like a Trevor song through and through, words and music (apart from the intro - isn't that White's idea, hence his credit?)

According to what I read at the time, all 90125 songs were in progress when Jon came in the band. He sort of added the final touch, made some changes in some lyrics.

Here is Trevor Rabin's quote from Tim Morse's book "Yes Stories" regarding the song "Hearts":

"I had written the chorus and bridge about two months before I met up with Chris and Alan. Tony Kaye wrote the intro riff and I wrote the melody on top of that. Jon was responsible for the counter-melody over it, "See me...". It was a collaboration all the way around. I know Jon has a real soft spot for that song, it creeps up in a lot of his solo projects. I don't mind, keep those checks rolling!" lol

The intro to the live version of Hearts on the Talk tour by Squire and Rabin is AWESOME!!!!!!!

The part Jon sings on the 90215 version of "Changes", that starts off "One word from you, one word from me, a clear design..." is not on Trevor's earlier version of "Changes" that is on his 90214 CD. I think those lyrics Jon sings are is contribution to the song. And yeah, White came up with the intro.

have you noticed in the expanded 90125, the beginning of OUR SONG is restored? the original one started with a fade in, and this new one the intro keyboards can be heard pretty clearly.
And yes indeed it is a VERY good song

our song-it gives us a reason.. oh yeah!!! it sure does!!
when i heard steve had left, i was upset.. REALLY upset.. i love mr howe!! he is THE MAN..
but, after hearing hearts, i HAD to give mr rabin a shot, and i am SO glad i did..
that last riff at the very end of hearts just ..wow..
well... it was as if trevor ripped it right out of his soul and offered it up on a platter for us.. it made me CRY, man! that last riff.. listen to it!! wow!

so, even tho people critisize this tune/lp, i have to say it brought me back to yes-and i learned to have an open mind, too.. right then...
and i havent looked back ever, either..
any and ALL yes men have contributed, and i will give them ALL their credit where it is due..
i think i need to hear this cd now!!
thanx for the suggestion for music to work by today folks!!
