If you had your own avatar loaded to your ID you will need to reload it or another on your own. I do not have them. I will load some more soon. Appear all the ones we did have are gone.

Ditto for the ICONS and Smilies that are still missing.

I'll try reloading my avatar now, however I tried reloading it on Saturday and again last night and it wouldn't accept it.

I just tried to upload my avatar again and no it won't accept it. There's an error message, something about something not being activated.... but it doesn't stay up long enough for me to read it.

Here's the error message for what it's worth, I was able to quickly grab it:

Warning: copy(./customavatars/avatar8597_10.gif): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/yesfan1/public_html/includes/functions_upload.php on line 335

Yeah, that's what I get, too.

04-17-2006, 11:55 AM
OK. Thanks. That helps.
As done here, PLEASE always include the error you get when you have issues here and the site. I alwaysget stuff through email stating they can't do this or that and don't tell me what they see when they try something.

I am working on this now.

When I get home I will reset the permissions on the server for that folder that holds the avatars. Right now it is not allowing anyone to access it. Simple fix just can't do it from work.

Okay, now I'm really confused. People are saying avatars are back, but I don't see them, and when I try to upload mine, I still get the message:

Warning: copy(./customavatars/avatar4298_7.gif): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/yesfan1/public_html/forum/includes/functions_upload.php on line 335

You should not see that error now. I just uplaoded a avatar of my own (this is 1yesfan) and it worked fine. No error. You go into your USER CP and click the avatar link which should then show you many avatars I loaded to the site and below that an area to upload your own.
I think your system may have cookied the bad link issue that I fixed last night.
Clear out your cookies, temporary internet files, and history files, and then reboot your system and see if that fixes it for you.

Tim

Hmm, did all that, still not happening. I checked Temporary Internet Files, and it was indeed empty. I rebooted. When I came back here, I had to log in, so my cookies were gone, but I still can't see other people's avatars, and can't upload my own (same error message).

The most interesting thing is that when I right-click on the missing avatars of other users (the box with the red x and "test's Avatar" for example) and tell it "Show Picture", it still doesn't. Like it refuses to admit that the graphics are even there on the server for me to get. Or it's looking in the wrong place, but I've refreshed and reloaded the page a few times, still no go.

Not a biggie, it seems to be working fine for everyone else, and that's the important thing. I'll try it again from home tonight. They do goofy things to our PCs here at work, so maybe there's an issue there. But it is weird.

It's very possible that you can't do it at work. I get that all the time. When I'm home it works fine!

the rex x ones you see are bad ones. They are ones that the user uploaded the avatar be4 we moved servers. I do not have those avatars to load back to the site for them and their avatar is lookign for a image that is not there. Thus the red x. You must have a setting off or something. The issue of not being able to upload and getting that error message is fixed. Are you at work? Did you check your profile to make sure you have enabled your account to see images?

Just for fun Orbert, try uploading a different picture and see if that works for you.

Mine was too big for the new setup so I just resized it using "mspaint" :disco:

InverYes

When you open it in your imaging software do you have an option to resize it?

If you can't specify an exact size in pixels try reducing it by percentages.

flep

I just used select all then grabbed the botton r'h corner and resized that way and re-saved. When I hovered my pointer over it before picking at again it showed what the pixel size is.

First one was too big, second one gave me:

Warning: copy(./customavatars/avatar4298_11.gif): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/yesfan1/public_html/forum/includes/functions_upload.php on line 335

Let's not waste too much time on this, folks. I was really just trying to help Tim debug things by providing feedback, not complain about things not working. If things work fine from my PC at home, then I know it's my PC here at worked that's hosed, I just can't figure out why. Others have successfully reloaded their avatars and can see them; I can't even see them after specifically telling IE to show them, but that's still obviously something on this end.

1yesfan
04-18-2006, 09:19 PM
We will figure it out!

I can see my tiger now! Thanks, Tim!

I guess it wasn't just my PC at work, but something else, as it affected me from home too.

Strangely, I still can't see anyone else's avatar, even those in this very thread where the person mentioned that it's there.

Aren't computers wonderful?
