I just picked up a copy of Instinct and was pleasantly surprised. It's not at all what I was expecting to hear - not quite sure what that was to be honest - but this is a terrific mix of different styles. Well worth getting a copy.
Hats off to Mr Banks for this one.

Please do!
No Place Like Home is beautiful - but far too short!
Ask him one thing for me? What's with the dog barking on All Points South? I had to go outside four times to tell the dog to shut up before I twigged it was on the CD! :)
Sticky Wicket is infectious and enough to cheer anybody up - you have this one in your head ALL DAY LONG!
Lots of great stuff on this.
See! Now I'm just going to have to go and put it on again!

Pete had a chuckle when I asked him about the dog, he said it is not a dog but is a South African instrument ( which I can't begin to spell out ) but the sound is like sliding your straw out of a McDonald's milk shake.
Pete also said thanks for the kind words and support.

I would have to agree, Watts. This is the first Bank's CD that I acquired and I still enjoy listening to it every now and again.

His new band, Harmony in Diversity is only doing one show in the states... in Pennsylvania.
Two Sides of Peter Banks is a fantastic album! I'd like to see his new band do more shows in the states, though.

Give me a clue then. What would you suggest I go for next. Instinct was the first of his albums I'd bought, but I'd like to hear more.

I must add the two albums are great although my favorite of the two at the moment is Instinct,
well worth giving the albums a spin,
No Place Like Home is a great track

I totally agree, Norm! I listened to Instinct yesterday and Peter is simply amazing! My favorite track is the one that was dedicated to his late mother... Never The Same. It is a beautiful tribute to his mother, indeed and he should be very proud of what he accomplished on this album.

Instinct is definitely worth getting. If you are only familiar with the way Peter sounded in the '70s, it might surprise you. I'd like to see Peter do another solo album in the same vein as Instinct, but I know how difficult and time-consuming they are to put together.

I've said it before and still haven't heard a decent explanation as to why Peter isn't involved in future YES plans.
His playing back in the day served as a barometer for Steve or any guitarist looking to expand their musical boundaries, and his talent has grown over the years into quite an impressive display of fretwork and soundscapes.
You can NEVER go wrong picking up a Peter Banks CD !

Peter came to my mind in another section of this site (the Rick wants a small Yes tour 2010) someone brought up the possiblity of two Yesses again. I wonder what would happen if Jon,Rick and Peter got together. Maybe there is still some bad blood between Peter and Jon though.
I must get Instinct:2hyper:

I dunno who likes or dislikes Peter, but I know this; if he were involved, the music wouldn't sound like a regenerated YES of the past. He would certainly bring an element to YES we've not yet heard within their musical framework, and if his vocal abilities are at least as good as they used to be; we've got harmony. :-)
Add Billy Sherwood on bass, Trevor Rabin on guitars & keys and Simon Phillips on drums and we're talking STIFF competition here !!
Back to "Instinct" . . . get it !

Supposedly, Jon and Peter were going to do some writing together a couple years ago, but nothing came of it. I don't believe Peter is on bad terms with any other Yes men, including Jon and Steve, but Yes these days is a nostalgia operation focused around the lineup that sold the most albums and concert tickets. There isn't much room for Peter in that equation, unfortunately, and he's not a big nostalgia fan anyway.
I suspect that geography also plays an issue in some of these things. The various people that ANTIOCH names live in California and the UK, making it more difficult and expensive to get everyone in the same room together.

it would be good if all the yes chaps past and present could do a tour and have the appropriate line ups to do the songs as they were recorded and i think YES do need to give Peter Banks an opportunity to do that

It would be great, but far too expensive to ever happen. I wouldn't be surprised if a big "true union" one-off show or set of shows happens someday.

Well I fear the only "true union" will not take place on stage 6 feet over the ground but under...
