Hi,
I would like to know if it is possible to get the recording of CTTE that was offered as a bonus disc with Borders Bookstore's sale of Magnification. I really would rather not buy Magnification again. Though it is a wonderful album, and it was fortuitous that my wife and I separated, so we each have a copy, but I kept the bonus disks..which was itself fortuitous, since I bought them both at Best Buy and managed to get Gates of Delirium, I guess through a glitch, since they were supposed to offer only Ritual.

Anyway, seems asking if someone has an MP3 would be not kosher, but is there anyway that Yes might offer the recording without requiring me to hunt down, or plunk down money again for Magnification, which I really don't need for a third time. Any assistance would be wonderful.

Perhaps you can look at the purchase of another Magnification as donating to a worthy cause--helping sales numbers--encouraging further creations from our guys. I'd say it's worth the $15.

Khatruman - I've wondered the same thing myself (whether the bonus tracks would ever be commercially available in another format). I cancelled my on-line pre-order of Magnification so I could get a bonus CD version from a local retailer, but if I had come home with three copies of the CD because there was one different track on each one, I probably would have been shot - and justifiably so - for being indulgent and irresponsible with my family's money.

I ended up with Ritual, because I thought that was the best song during the Masterworks tour. I almost would have preferred Gates, which I thought was far and away the best piece during the YesSymphonic tour, but I thought it was disappointingly weak during Masterworks (at least the Boston show, which was the only one I saw). The "New & Improved" percussion section in Ritual finally sold me - I couldn't wait to hear that again. CTTE is probably my all-time favorite, but I already had three live versions of it, so I had to go with one of the others. I hope I made the right choice, and I love the Ritual recording, so I guess I should be happy.

I have to take issue with yessiree's advice. First of all, even assuming it was a good idea, how is somebody supposed to take their $15 and go buy another copy of Magnification complete with bonus CD? I live just west of Boston, admittedly in the middle of one of the shopping Mecca's of America, but around here, those discs were sold out before the end of December. I can't imagine they lasted too much longer anywhere else.

Furthermore, I can't support your assertion that buying three copies of the CD to get all three (OK, four) bonus tracks is like donating to a worthy cause.

I believe four-square in supporting worthy artists - and these guys certainly qualify. I've bought at least one copy of every band album they've ever done (in most cases, LP then CD - in some cases LP, replacement LP, then CD), and I've bought at least one copy of the vast majority of solo works or significant collaborations any of the various players have done over the years (the exception being Wakeman, who released many albums not generally available in the US during a period I was both poor and not very well connected - still, I've bought over a dozen of his albums, some more than once). I've bought copies to give to other people. I've been to at least one show during every tour since Relayer (except the Talk tour - I just couldn't afford it), and I've always brought others with me to try to spread the good news of this band's music (successfully, too!). That's what I call supporting a band.

I see the bonus track conumdrum as a somewhat offensive attempt by the record company (I don't blame the band for this, and I hope I'm right in that) to take advantage of the loyalty - or perhaps the fanaticism ;-) - of dedicated fans. To be honest, I feel somewhat ripped off in a way. Now, I know I haven't actually been wronged, and I have no right to feel ripped off, but I guess I feel like I'm dealing with a salesman who thinks he has me where he wants me, and decides to try to gouge me. I wish my collection was complete, but I refuse to be gouged.

I really hope these tracks show up on some other recording I can buy - and, frankly, I hope I can find someone to turn me on to them while I'm waiting for that possible future commercial release of them (I would buy them out of principle at that time - I belive in good faith on *both* sides; no rip-offs either way).

What I'm really waiting to see from the industry is compositions being made available for download at fair prices - mix and match, buy it all, or whatever you're willing to pay for.

I just hope those tracks would be available to buy as WAVs, not just MP3s :-)

Not that this solves the problem but Magnification was reissued in 2004 on Eagle records with three bonus tracks on a 2nd disc (Gates, LDR and CTTE). Don't you know I actually thought about buying this. Somehow resisted since I already own Magnification with the bonus Gates and LDR and the Mag DVD-A which is just fantastic. Anyway the reissue is available on Amazon for example for just $11.98: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00069FKFA/qid=1150778897/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/104-6512987-8817521?s=music&v=glance&n=5174
