Gates of Delirium - the novel

Hi all,

Am I out on a limb in thinking what a great novel the 'Gates of Delirium' narrative would make? I think it's one of Jon's most powerful and coherrent lyrics. It's crying out for the novelisation treatment.

yea,its called "War&Peace",supposedly the inspiration behind it...never read it but a very sobering fact is that 25 million Russians lost their lives in WW2...maybe Zamran could be a young lieutenant in love with a raven haired beauty? sorry wrong concept...

That's funny I was just clicking around the YESWORLD site and it does say on the Relayer album info that Gates of Delirium is based loosely on Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace. Funny coincidence huh?

Hi all,

I was aware of the 'War and Peace' connection. Read it years ago, seemed to take forever and a day at the time. Glad I stuck with it though.
What I had in mind with the 'Gates of Delirium' narrative was more of a science fiction/fantasy take on the whole thing. Joss Whedon's Serenity kinda feel with a dash of Ursula LeGuin stirred in to season. Maybe a graphic novel....?

Love War and Peace - read it twice I think - probably read it again some day - a true Russian classic

Hi,
Off topic just a tad, buuuuut....My favourite Russian novel has to be The Master and Marguerita by Mikhail Bulgakov. I've read at least 4 times. It's (among many other things) a searing satire on Stalinist ideology, and very funny and very moving. And still scarily topical! Check it out..

That is a great book - not sure what is my favourite Russian novel - could be Crime & Punishment or Brother's Karamazov by Dostoevsky; or And Quiet flows the Don by Sholokov; Dead Souls by Gogol; War & Peace and Anna karenina are up there - there are just too many to choose from!
