View Full Version : Yesshows Time Machine Poll

Imagine you have access to a time machine. And it really works! You only have enough "fuel" to go to one Yes concert, from any period of time. Which tour would you want to see?
Genevive, both the Relayer Tour and the Tormato Tour were before my time, but if I could choose, I would have to go with Relayer ... I've heard some snippets from those shows, and having seen Pat Moraz with the Moody Blues, I would choose Relayer over Tormato ...
However, my vote went to the Talk Tour. Like jack gowen, I love Endless Dream, and I think that the Talk Tour is unique in that it is the only place to hear that piece live ... I doubt Yes will ever play it again. And I deeply regret missing it ...

Tales, of course. It was an amazing show--as are all of their shows, but Tales, you know, is special to me.

Well, I went for the Tormato tour. I have seen every tour since (except for Drama, which I heard I would not have Minded missing). If I had to pick from tours that I have seen. It would come down to three - ABWH, Masterworks and last years Symphonic at RCMH!

Having seen most of the Tours (I missed a few in the 5-10 years ago range), I'd love to go back and see Yes in the Marquee club days, when the set was an hour's worth of Midnight Hour plus originals. taken in terms of their later output, that kind of trip would be a blast!

Fortunately I was able to see a great many of the concerts listed here! '76 tour,GFTO,Tormato,90215,ABWH,UNION,Talk,OYE,Ladder ,Masterworks,Symphonic and this year. We don't need a time machine. The great concerts are NOW! YES is coming again.>JOE

:crybby: I wish I could have been there!
This says it all, to see Soundchaser live.

I would have loved to go see the 1976 tour. I would have liked to see Ritual played during that time, to see what the crab nebular did during te percussion part, and to see the Remembering playyed during the tour (the only time on that tour, and the last time it was ever played) I would have like to Watch Jon sing to the Cue-cards (there is a story about it in the Perpetual Change book.

Descisions, decisions...
Anyway..I picked GFTO, but if I had my way, I'd have started at the early days with The Syn, and worked my way up to Union, since I missed it (I had just started getting into Yes at that time), as well as The Ladder and Masterworks, tours cuz I missed those also..

I would have loved to see the Union tour. Eight members playing on the stage at the same time - that was great.

I'm really fortunate to have seen this show ! By the mid 80's I was desperate to see a Yes concert and they seemed to avoid Europe after the 90125 tour. I saw them for the first time in my life in 1989 (ABWH) and then the Union Tour. I thought it was incredible to have all of them on stage after having waited so long. A real treat ! Apart from these, I wish I could have seen the Going for the One tour because it's one of my favourite album, and the Relayer tour because some older fans talked me about it and said the shows were visually amazing.

as much as I would have loved to have seen CTTE or Tales I had to vote for the 1976 tour. I was at JFK in Philly 6/12/76 along with 130,000 other fans. There are no words to describe this experience. This was my third YES show and it solidified my love for this band.
I also agree that there is no need to travel back in time, the band is still incredible.

... that's the way that he would have said it. By the way, the Simpson's character is based on a real-life comic-book store owner who lives in Oregon. A friend who lived in Eugene described this guy, and it makes sense, because Matt Groening grew up in Oregon.

I actually Live very close to the Whiskey a Go-Go. I saw some very famous groups there from 79-83 but nowadays its not like it used to be. Most of the bands there never amount to much.
Although I may act & feel like a kid, I actually saw all the tours in the 70's, "back in the day" Gen. Sound Chaser was "out of this world". "To be Over was "Magnificent". I also saw Bruford with them during Fragile & CTTE when Alan arrived. Oh my God!!! To chose just one is really hard. Although I must "flashback" to my memories of seeing all 4 sides of "TALES". The Deans stage design with the lasers and the huge unjulating shell behind Alan. I thought that I was in a fairy Tale or Dream state. I remember weeping during "The Ancient" because I had snuck down close to the stage and became completely overwelmed until they sent me back to the upper level. "TALES" tour definately. Wow! I can still remember seeing the fish flying above the crowd. Yes!

That one's easy:
1976 Yesterdays/Solo Albums Tour for no other reason than the Crab Nebula stage set. And I would take a video camera so we could all have a memento from that tour.
I would probably go to one of the arenas rather than an outdoor stadium - although I'm sure the outdoor shows were amazing, with that set I would have liked to be in darkness for the whole show to really get the full effect of the set and lasers...

... Yes seemed to perform just about all of the 90125 songs when I saw them on the "Talk" tour, so that filled the "void" more than adequately for me. A friend who went with me to the show (and only owned the 90125 album) noticed how many of the songs were familiar to him.

I always wondered who picked Berlin to open for them originally. I love Berlin, but what a strange combination. I'd also like to know the real reason Berlin were kicked off the tour.
"We were going to send them a box of rats chewing on a dinosaur bone but we didn't want to offend the rats." - Berlin, after being removed as opening act for Yes in 1984.

Hey I live in Eugene, whose the comic book guy ? I want names.
I would have like to see the Gates or Topo tours- if for nothing else just for the stage show. I agree with a previous response the tour to see is the one now, or the one coming. Soundwise I don't think they've ever sounded better. I know when I saw Tormato and Drama they were in the round playing these big hideous Sports arenas, now they play theatres built for sound. If you went to Gates, then you don't get Awaken, so you give up a lot to go back in time- the question is...will they ever play Parallels again? That was truly amazing to see live.

Man, I'm so longing to see and hear OTSWOF and Release Release live, but since there is no going back in time (or has somebody forgotten to share this information with me?) I'm really hoping they'll be played on a near future show, together with Parallels........

Relayer tour!!!! This tour I saw 3 shows. The 3 armed crab and the green sincronized lazerbeams all over the concert halls flowing to the Heart tuging SOON! This show I saw before I heard the album and it hooked me and Yes for life. I can't say this enough. When I hear Gates and Soon comes on I flashback to the concert and my heart and soul fly out into the sweet vocals of Jon and dance in the green lazer lights. I was a bit hesitant to vote on this one because if there's only enough fuel to go to one show, how the hell am I supposed to get back home? But then, being stuck in the 60's can't be all that bad! Would love to have seen them pre-Atlintic. Nervous newbies on stage trying to find themselves and their music. Guess it's because I have a son in a band and I've seen him there. Then.... I would already be there to follow Yes through their careers and never miss one freakin' show! Or the good, cheap recreational mind-altering substances, numerous other bands, and the "free" and (relatively) safe sex.:D

They only played "The Remembering" on two nights of the tour, 5/30/76 in Charleston, WV and 5/31/76 in Johnson City, TN.
I saw the 6/12/76 show at JFK Stadium in Philly, and they'd already dropped it, which was a shame; I'd only seen them do it during the "Tales" tour, and I was REALLY young.
Still a mindblowing experience. 110,000 fans, lasers, "Gates," "Ritual!"
I seem to be the only one that voted for TYA tour, which was before my time (although I went on a hunger strike, but Mom decided that 9 years old was too young for a concert). Or "Fragile," which my brother went to and I was, once again, denied because of age. Or "Masterworks," which occurred after I'd stopped listening to Yes (I obviously had a rebirth).
Of all the tours i've seen, I'd have go say the 1976 tour, or maybe the "In the Round" Tormato tour, both of which were AWESOME.

Did the comic book guy really say that about Yes?
Well, usually it's "Worst (fill-in-the-blank) ever," rather than hardest, and surprisingly, I've never heard comic-book-store guy comment on prog rock (although the Moody Blues have guest-appeared in animated form on "The Simpsons," and Homer stole the animated version of Pink Floyd's inflatable pig from Peter Frampton, who was borrowing it), but if comic-book-store guy was here, I believe he might say, "Hardest question ever." Then again, he might not; comic-book-store guy isn't always predictable.
I still think Yes should guest-appear on "The Simpsons," and that it would be cooler than the band getting into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Shame.

Fans almost never could ruin a show for me, although those idiots in Indianapolis yelling at Jon Anderson a couple weeks ago tried, and I wanted to strangle the people behind me in Kansas in '02 who wouldn't shut up while Yes was performing "South Side of the Sky." Ever since I got "Fragile" for a dime at a garage sale 20 years earlier, I wanted to hear that song live. If you're going to talk all the way through the show, why be there? Go somewhere else and be a blabbermouth.
On the other hand, I can't believe that people pay for a concert (or don't) and just sit there looking bored the whole time. Might as well stay at home and listen to your stereo if you lack that much enthusiasm for music and life, and/or find a good therapist.
I envy your "GFTO" experience, as well. "Awaken" has been mind-blowing since they brought it back in '91, but to hear it back in '77 ... would probably blow my mind even more. Where's that time machine?

On the other hand, I can't believe that people pay for a concert (or don't) and just sit there looking bored the whole time. Might as well stay at home and listen to your stereo if you lack that much enthusiasm for music and life, and/or find a good therapist.
I envy your "GFTO" experience, as well. "Awaken" has been mind-blowing since they brought it back in '91, but to hear it back in '77 ... would probably blow my mind even more. Where's that time machine?

The "Relayer" era, for sure. Those shows were intense. I have seen YES 15+ times since the early 80's, and I have always wished I could have seen a mid-70's show.

Rob Adams will shortly begin posting on Yesfans again.
I've been keeping in touch with Rob, he's an AMAZING Yesfan.
He has a computer again, he's the essence of the band, a few of 'em!
Rob Adams: Yesfan.

So, in a sense, you're giving us Rob for Christmas. Not a bad gift; certainly beats getting a tie or a set of Ginsu knives.

I picked Tales tour predictable or what
As I looked thru other posts it dawned on me !!!!!!
Why not pick Fragile tour I can only travel once so would then be able to see
all tours ( except Torbloodymato) and experience the joy of all the rest.
Find a job, find a women (preferably the one I have) live easy and see all my old mates again.Sorted.
