Well for all you Abwh, buggles, and cospiracy fans your day has come to speak out and say who covered a yessong the best and who did the worst job. Oh by the way Yes west is not a cover so sorry.

I think ABWH is somewhere between being an offshoot and being the real deal. I don't really feel it's 100% Yes without Fishy, but it's too close to being real Yes for this catagory in my opinion. I still gave ABWH my vote. They were the best Yes cover band ever!

ABWH was Yes, so I picked that one!

I think the only way to really get an interesting cover of a Yes tune is to have someone totally outside the band not only cover the song...but reinterpret it.

My initial thought is a Yes cover done in the way Herbie Hancock covered the pop tunes on his album, "The New Standard." I think a jazz reworking of some of the Yes catalog might be quite intriguing.

I mean...why do we want to hear Rick Wakeman play totally faithful covers with bad Korg sounds replacing all the instruments?

Enchant did a good cover of Changes. It's not exactly the same, but still pretty decent.

I don't consider ABWH a Yes offshoot, but one of two Yes' during that period. Therefore, my answer is no one.

I’ve always thought of ABWH as Yes, not as an offshoot.
So I votes for GTR's Roundabout it's pretty darn good and just different enough to be enjoyable.

ABWH. Having said that, I would love to hear something by Conspiracy and Remedy. Con. could perform songs from 90125 and BG, and Rem. could do instrumental versions of the Drama material.

I think ABWH is Yes with four out of five CTTE-members. But this lineup made the weakest yes-album for my taste. I believe, that the absence of Chris is the reason for that. He is really the soul of Yes. And he never ever would have allowed that sloppy and slick production and too much keys. Though, even ABWH has a lot of fine moments, Brother Of Mine for example.

The best Yes-Cover is Conspiracy. By the way, they should engage Tony Kaye on organ and Bill Bruford on drums for the tour. So we would have a nice Yes II.

Greetings

Peter

I agree with Peter, it's Conspiracy for me--particularly Open Your Eyes, but that's a Chris composition in the first place, so it makes sense.

BUT, Tony for a tour? Come on, you know better than that! Tony would never be able to handle the modern keyboard sounds. That's simply NOT his style. I believe a better suggestion would be Geoff Downes.

Don't underrate Tony. Remember, Arlene, he played on the Yes-Album. And he was able to play live with Yes-West. Some tricky sounds he had to handle there. And even David Bowie - at the beginning of his most avantgardistic phase - recruited Tony for his Station To Station tour in 76. And not at least, Tonys playing has soul.

Though, Geoff Downes, I think, would be a good choice too. But Tony came to my mind first. Well, we will see.

Very true Tony Kaye and Bill would make great additions to the tour (so would Trevor Rabin and Patrick moraz) I would like them to do a full line up tour Those past members that can do a tour should even if it's for one tour I never saw Tony Kaye live and He is one of my favorite keyboardests. Bill Is an amazing drummer and would work quite well with yes now as he did in 91. Union 2 should happen but be done because every one wants to do it (perhaps even an album with the lineup however many members there are doing album with just them producing it. or maybe Eddie Offord)
Mac

Union 2 not a bad idea after all
Oh and thought this post was off topic to make it on topic I like Gtr Roundabout

it's not really a far question if you include ABWH.
I like WT vesion of WS (even though only Billy and the drummer appear on it). Howe, though, does a cool highlight version of Topographic.

true but odly enough yes off shoots don't really do a lot of yes covers (Asia, Flash earthworks (come on bill a jazzy version of some early yes songs like Harold land or then)). Plus when coming up with this poll I considered (as i do now) ABWH being a new prog band nhot a coninuation of yes but a spin off an off shoot while unlike say World trade or even asia they sound much more like yes then the other yes offshoots (i wonder if the same thing would of happened say if bill bruford joined asia instead of carl palmer Bill Geoff and steve hmm or if say Moraz and Bruford had toured with Jon and vangiels with perhaps Adrian Belew and Tony levin joining them like what we have now with the more drama tour i wonder what Moraz Bruford Anderson Belew and levin would sound like a wierd mix of king crimson and yes hmm) any hoo too make a long story short (TOO LATE sorry i just saw the movie clue) true whi;le they were an off shoot they sound more yes then the other off shoots but at the same token if u take them out of the poll then i felt like it would just be ignoring one of the mostg populer yes offshoots so I guess it's hard to find the balance i might revamp this poll (unless someone beats me to it) besides Abwh which off shoot did a good job in cluding SYn with there version of time and a word and White with there live version of some of the drama work (or a better poll whixch non yes yes tour did u like better abwh versus the more drama tour hmmm)

One that wasn't included for voting is "Astral Traveller" by Peter Banks on the 'Tales of Yesterdays' CD . . some fine guitar playing indeed !
