Recently bought myself the remastered version of Tormato with all the extra tracks. I'd heard none of these before, except "Abilene" as the B side of my DKTW single.
It seems to me that the band were quite right to leave all of these tracks off the orginal recordings, as they're all, er, not as good as we'd expect.
The excpetion is "You Can Be Saved", which is beautiful and charming. I'd love to hear them do this live. (If they ever play live again).

Also, can anyone tell me which of these extra songs come from the Tormato session and which from the Paris sessions with Roy Thomas Baker ?

Also, I'd forgotten what fun Arriving UFO and Future Times are. I've even been secretly enjoying Circus of Heaven, but don't tell anyone. If you ask me in public I'll still say it's rubbish.

Hi Movedfast,

I'm not certain, but I think the Roy Thomas Baker Bits are to be found on the Drama remaster. I don't think any of the extras on Tormato are from those sessions.

Actually I think "Picasso" could have been a great YES song. If they had decided to do it they would have arranged it properly, what we are hearing is just a sketch.

Also I really like "Countryside", but it would have been totally out of place on Tormato. I love the whole sound/texture of it (very un-YES like but still very much YES): the chorus lead vocal, the autoharp/zither chords on the intro, a great Squire bass line, the way the vocals break out into three separate parts at the end.

And I will dare to admit in public that I love Circus Of heaven!!

The Roy Thomas Baker stuff is on Drama yeah...Abelene was released as a B side to Don't Kill the Whale in the UK.

I like the extras off of Tormato the best. Country Side was on one of Howe's solo albums, and so was "Some are Born" from somewhere of Anderson's cannon, can anybody say form where?

It's fun to hear Anderson work on "Everybody's Song" because that would eventually become a Drama track.

Some Are Born was on Jon's Song of Seven Album, as was Days. Wonder how he gets a writing credit for Everybody's Song, but not for Does it Really Happen ?

Maybe so, but it's still great. Plus it's just fun to hear Yes doing a second take after the first one breaks down:
Work in progress....

My guess would be alot of the lyrics are mostly different to what wound up on Drama. I find it kind of amusing is that Jon's voice cracks several times, the same problem Trevor Horn had trying to sing Anderson songs in their original key, especially near the end of the Drama tour.

I don't think any of the Tormato out-takes on the Rhino are Paris sessions. I think they're all from the time of the Tormato sessions which are also collected on the Digital Reels bootleg.

I think Countryside and You Can Be Saved are the best tracks and Some Are Born shows potential. I like the music on it but Jon's very rough vocal track is a bit hard to listen to in places.
