Is there something wrong with me? So here I am, serious classic era fan, and...uhhh :wall: I like ITPO. There, I said it. I even found myself thinking "they did it again!". So, have they or is it just me? I would really appreciate some feedback on this from the Classicyesheads.(Please no "Mag is wonderfull" and "all the songs on Mag are beautiful" posts, cause they aren't).
Maybe I'm just getting old...NO, wait, I AM old...
Then?

please help me.

Stefan oldyesfan.

I am an old fan, started listening when CTTE came out. I think Magnification is my favorite overall album since ABWH. I liked some of the new songs on Keys, some on each album. I like all of Mag. Call me crazy but I sort of like Don't Go. ITPO is a good song, it just doesn't do it for me. I like Endless Dream, That, That Is, Mind Drive, Homeworld better. On Mag I like GLED, Magnification, Spirit of Survival better. Hey but that is just me. Sorry, but I like all the songs on Mag and I have not said that about a YES album since Going For The One.

I liked almost all the songs on 90125, ABWH, and both Keys CDs.

I am a Classicyeshead... started listening in the days of Fragile/CTTE. (Roundabout on AM pop radio - who/what was that!! The piper calling, the Siren song leading me astray but not to the ashtray, calling across time provoking memories, disjointed but with purpose... the Sun will lead me silently, my reason to be here....)

I love Magnification and no not all the songs are great to my ears. Please Go as I am better off without you, Give Love Each Day is a great way to be but I don't need that last round of choruses shouting at me to do it.... but YES In The Presence Of IS, YES IT IS. Magnified and true, as is Magnification, magnificently so. Can We Agree and Can We Imagine? This is our Dreamtime....and more. YES we have been blessed this time is time again.

It has been said before: ITPO is a flawed masterpiece.
The basic ideas are good, but it lacks the refinements that would have been standard in the "golden age" of the 70s. Steve's very unimaginative solo at the end also doesn't help.
With one or two extra themes it would have been a classic...

Still, although it doesn't quite reach the level of The Ladder, I do like Magnification a lot! I think they did a real good job with the ochestra. Imagine the album without it and it would be rather dull. (blasphemy!)

ITPO is great, but I think Dreamtime is better. What other newer Yes songs do you like? Mind Drive? Homeworld?

I'm a Classicyeshead (this is starting to sound like a AA meeting or something). It's a disease everyone should catch. Anyway, I love Magnification. I even like Dont Go. The first time I heard it, it struck me that this song is very "Beatles" sounding. Maybe that's the reason I like it so much. As for ITPO, this is a new song that to me sounds like an old Yes classic. It has a way of picking you up and twirling you around and lifting you higher (which by the way is the point).

If there's something wrong with me, then bring it on! :cool2:

OK, while I am not really a classic Yes era fan, I loved Fragile in the day (1971) and could actually perform much of Roundabout on the guitar (not any more), but then took a 30some year hiatus from Yes music. I have recently discovered the majority of the Yes catalog and have a strong appreciation of much of the music. That being said... You are not alone in your appreciation of ITPO. There is hardly a day that goes by that I don't give this song 3 or 4 listens (long commute). This is, indeed, a beautiful fusion of rock, jazz, and orchestra in long form. I am facinated by the way the different themes are introduced, explored and then reprised. I am especially appreciative that each instument used (piano, voice, guitar, and all orchestra parts) have a definite place and purpose. It is not just an orchestra thrown in for added accompaniment , for example. For me, the most moving part is the middle part from about 3:20- 5:30 where Jon and the orchestra weave melody and conter melody back and forth, in and out. The orchestra nearly borders on jazz at the 4:25- 4:35 point of the song. Another favorite part is from about the 7:00 - end that has this very dramatic tension that starts building very slowly, yet deliberately to the grand conclusion. When this song is over I feel nearly emotionally drained from the let down from the sheer adrenelin rush. The one and only other Yes song that does this for me is I'm Running. The inclusion of the orchestra and wild guitar parts in ITPO, though, makes this song more powerful and dramatic for me.
