After finally listening to the remastered version of Going For The One, - I'd previously heard the album, but not with the Rhino extras - I feel compelled to ask: Who dropped the ball here?

I'm not quite sure I understand why "Montreux's Theme" and "Vevey" weren't legitimately placed on the initial effort. In all honestly, Montreux's Theme (it screams Focus circa Moving Waves or Camel from roughly the same period to me) seems fit to compete with anything else on this album with the possible exception of "Awaken" in my opinion, and Vevey could have been a classic if they would have devoted a bit more composition time into it. Either way, this hardly seems like the kind of stuff you throw away from an album...

Were there plans to do anything with them in the future? Does Yes make a habit of tossing work that would fit into nearly any other group's best albums ha? Anybody else feel these are great songs as well?

Vevey Revisited was just Jon and Rick playing together without any intention of recording it for an album - they were just relaxing. Two other excerpts are on Yesyears. Not sure of the Montreux's Theme story - this track in particular is a gem.

They ARE great songs, no doubt!

Could you just imagine how many songs YES
must have in a bin somewhere that weren't
used? Dam! Release those on a multi CD pak!

The Going for the One extras are my favs of all the Rhino remasters.
I agree Vevey and Montreux's Theme are excellent.
I love Amazing Grace - I don't even know how much longer my car stereo speakers can take that abuse! (heh, heh)
I really enjoy the practice sessions for GFTO- Steve ripping through it, and Parallels- the ric.

The coolest thing about "Montreux's Theme" is that they were just screwing around. I mean, I don't think it was a jam, but there was no place for vocals, so you know it only had a future as a section of a song, at best. Still, though, it's a complete tune, with a beginning and an end.

It also does not suffer for lack of singer or keyboardist, although you can hear weedy little key sounds in there (Patrick, right? On the lost interviews from YESSTORIES, Stev strongly implies that they made the keyboard part disappear. Good move by them, whatever the motivation). Wonderful. Stuff they didn't release for years was better than some other bands' best work.

I couldn't say it any better. Just something about that album, the sessions......all very magical.

The problem I run into with the remaster is that I only make it about two minutes on Eastern Number before I have to switch over to Awaken, even if I just heard it. I've yet to make it to the end.
