1975/6 solo album re-releases
Wounded Bird Records are re-releasing three of the five solo albums by Yes members from 1975/6. Chris Squire's Fish Out of Water (WOU-8159; with Bill Bruford and Patrick Moraz) and Alan White's Ramshackled (WOU-8167; with Jon Anderson and Steve Howe on one track) are due on 28 Feb, with Anderson's Olias of Sunhillow expected at a later date. Anderson's subsequent solo album Song of Seven (WOU-6021; first released 1980) also gets re-released on 28 Feb.

Details of each album are in the Yescography (Olias..., Fish..., Ramshackled, Song of Seven); the re-releases do not have any bonus tracks. All four albums are currently out of print and this will be Ramshackled's first US release on CD. (I do not know whether anything will happen with the other two solo albums, Steve Howe's Beginnings and Patrick Moraz' The Story of i.)

Can't comment on the Ramshackled re-issue - sorry , but for anyone in the UK I just found that Patrick Moraz's album The Story of I (1994 release) is in Amazon.co.uk's New Year sale at just £4.97.

Hi folks,

It's been quite a while since I heard 'Ramshackled'. I have a vinyl copy, nice cover, especially the inner sleeve painting and the multi-coloured lyric sheet which Alan would have us believe he did himself with coloured pens!
Seriously though, I thought the album itself was pretty weak, the only track I really enjoyed was 'Spring', and the lyric to that comes from a William Blake poem from his 'Songs of Innocence'. It has appeared on a couple of compilation albums ('Friends & Relatives' and 'The Yes Solo Albums' I think).
I was also uneasy about the fact that the album was credited solely to Alan White, when he doesn't write any of it, or sing on it as far as I'm aware. Apart from the coloured lyric sheet and playing the drums on it, his only contribution to the whole seems to be financial - he paid for it!

I am increasingly finding myself feeling that Yes and its component members are a spent force and of little contemporary merit beyond recycled nostalgia. Their musical abilities have deterriorated to the point now where it's painful and embarrasing to witness.
These things have to be said, I'm afraid. Blind devotion, reverence for past achievements and hero-worship are not for me.

All best wishes,

ash

For my part, it's not blind devotion. I do enjoy Magnification very much. As well as The Ladder.

I got the Wounded Bird re-issues of "FOOW" and "Ramshackle" almost a month ago. Both are straight re-releases, no remastering, bonustracks, photos or sleevenotes. Even the printed lyrics to "FOOW" are missing. Anyway, i'm just happy to have these records. "Ramshackle" was better than i expected.
I also ordered Jon's "Olias" and "Seven", but for some reason i haven't received them yet. I guess that "Olias" does not feature all the original artwork, but neither did the previous cd-version. In fact, it missed the half of song titles...

So when will Moraz' i be re-released?

It's in the works, coming soon. "Patrick's complete back catalog in the coming months, all re- mastered and with some surprises* as well."

p.s. I own Ramshackled, hadn't listened to it for many years, but really enjoyed seeing a video of Spring Song (with Jon and Steve) off Alan's website. Sublime.

I got the reissued Song of Seven. I had never heard this record before. The title track which will take several more listens is worth the price of admission. I believe the track 'Some are Born' was performed on Jon's recent solo tour. I never owned the vinyl of this which like Olias' cover art won't compare--the insert with the CD has all the song lyrics but they are so small I could never attempt to read them without a magnifying glass (reminds me of the original release of TFTO which had the same reduced size insert problem). However, unlike the original CD release (they had both at Tower), the back of the CD at least lists the songs and players on each track.

Got Song of Seven CD myself few months ago and yeah, even my Animation cassette has better readable info and text.
So many reissues have not even times of songs or NOTHING but title and artist.

Lots of good "side two" stuff on both, musically.
