Curious to know if everyone found it on NFTE or not.

Mods feel free to add options.

NOTE: I'm trying to get rid of all my double posts. So the "Mods feel free to add options" was an afterthought that I posted. But now it's here.

I have added another option to show how I found Yesfans. 1yesfan used to run an email forum on egroups, then onelist, then yahoogroups called Yesmusic. When he stopped that list, Yesfans was created. My activity on that list is what has given me my current status as administrator here.

I was on one of my very late Saturday night (Sunday morning?) surfing sessions when I clicked on the link from Notes. Been here ever since. My internet habits, however, still get me into sleep deprivation mode.

05-31-2002, 01:53 AM
I wrote a post to NFTE and then I started getting e-mails from a couple of guys asking me to join Yes fans. I did not join at first and the e-mails kept coming, continuing to ask me to join--for months. Finally I submitted and here I am.

I wrote a concert review for the Mag Tour @ the Manchester Apollo (1st - shortened - show). Then I received an e-mail, think it was from Tim, inviting me to join which I did straight away !

Now, like a lot of other folks, I spend far too much time reading threads and posting !

I also posted my concert review (Paris Olympia - 26 Nov 2001) but Tim never invited me to Yesfans. That's unfair !

I was having lunch at Chez Nous and ran into Jon, Chris, and Trevor ...

They said it was the coolest of all things "Yes" on the web ... that they (and some others) come here all the time, and I should check it out.

So I did, and here I am ...

I was looking for one of those mail order bride deals, where you just send somebody a bunch of money, and they arrange a spouse for you that doesn't speak english but is very agreeable ... called Yesfems ... and I mistyped ... ;)

Disclaimer for the humor impared: The preceding story is fiction. I in no way intended to discredit the fine and reputable services of 'mail order bride' companies by mocking them. They discredit themselves quite adequately without my help.

I found a post on AMY (alt.music.yes, newsgroup). Tim had posted a note there inviting people. I was totally frustrated with the place. Constant bickering and the endless task of wading through posts just to actually find one that contained information about the band and not *&^(%$ you and %$^#& you. That was about 2 months after the sites inception.

There's so many great people here ! It's really a fun place to be.

Thanks to all of you, most of all Tim for craeating and maintaining such a awesome forum!

P.S. Great one Illusion!

I was at my old girlfreind's house, she had a computer. I didn't.
I asked her, "Hey! Are there any YES websites???

Just brilliant Earl.... Are there???!!!

So I spent about an hour tripping the internet... checking-out different YESsites... there were a few.

I found YESFANS and thought: "Hmm. Now that's the best one so far: they sound more like a party than an argument!"

I got a computer about 8 months later, I remembered YESFANS and went directly to it. That was my first post, my first experience with my own PC, and now I 'moderate', whatever THAT is! ;)

Love ya guys.

Totally addicted to this site... No 12 step program to help... Powerless, helpless, fused-at-the-hip with YesFans...
So it goes. Worse addictions, sure (I want the new boxed-set!!! Damn! And I still have to pay for my ticket to the Pheonix show... no big deal. Following YES on their tour: they get paid for it, & I pay for it: who cares? Haha! "A new Roger DEAN Litho? You're kidding? How Much? $500.00? Sold!" Argh! :) ).

I found YesFans with a search engine: AOL. An evil entity!
My Highschool YES-buddy swears he will log-on to YesFans. He should be here any day. Is it morally correct to turn others on to our addiction?

You Betcha! Haha!

I believe it was the fall of 98 or 99 and good ole tim emailed about 5 of us and said are you interested in forming a chat group
so myself, Yvonne, LIzzie, Tim, Dave (known to most of you as nightliner) and a couple of others - i think was 7 total started this darn thing (I usually refer to us as the Mercury 7 in reference to the space program) and we started the business
of emailing thing back and forth...
It got to be quite a havoc of a thing because the mail you posted
would go to everyone's email - sometimes you'd get 20 messages in a day (and this was with just a handful of us).
It would get pretty out of hand sometimes because there were no folders or different areas just one spot and sometimes it would get quite heated- politics and of course the trev VS STEVE and the ABWH vs yeswest...
about this time as well we started picking up more people a second tier those included were John Rose and Jan Carol
so we got up to around 40 or 50 people and were still emailing
back and forth - some days you'd get like 60 emails just from
yes people - and even though there was so much mail it was still very communal and caring - at one point a friend of ours in europe passed away Per Jagerstaad (i believe) anyway one afternoon we received an email from his son thanking us all for keeping in touch and that his father had passed. At the same though the amount of mail as you can guess really freaked some people out. They would join and saw that they were getting deluged with mail so they'd quit.
ALso around this time Tim tried to do a site like this weirdly enough through a General motors website - but it didn't work out and we were soon cast adrift again and sort of back to the emailing thing a bit...by that point we had probably around 100 people interested...

So tim again set off on getting a web site set up he persisted and wa laa we had yesfans.com - I remember the day tim opened the new site up..I was the first to jump to the new site and was just blown away- there was this huge page of topics and areas to jump to - just like a kid in the candy store... soon after that a couple more made the switch to the new site - although we were still a bit confused for a a bit because we were still trying to email the old fashion way.

Finally the emails stopped and it was totally the site - it was really odd the first bit of time because there weren't a lot of us here yet - like being in a huge field and not knowing where to run...
Eventually more people came and the topic areas filled up
and then it really started churning, eventually it morphed into a link on the NFTE and YESWORLD website...and now here we are with over a 200 members probably a lot more on the site...

And people I've never even knew existed have posted over 1500 times...

so anyway that's it a quick overall of the whole bloody thing
and how it got started...

take care
all

It really makes me wish I had been here from the get-go!

As it was, I found this amazing place in the fullness of times, in just the right season for myself... I got my cookie in June, 2001.

I've belonged to tight-knit groups before in 'real life' (So isn't THIS real, Earl???). They are rare as platinum, and when you find a group of friends that you click with, you relish that time...

You are deeply enriched by those you call your brothers and sisters... And the brothers and sisters you actually choose: those are the best!

I've been lucky enough to belong to a close band of songwriters that grew in my hometown... we felt an 'us against the world' camaraderi, writing mainly acoustic music in the heart of the digital eighties... plying instruments of wood in a circuit-board world, and through that we became exceedingly close: I felt I could reach out a hand wherever I might be, and touch any of my friend's sleeves... There were seven or eight of us, and various satellites that would appear and disappear: but the core-group held for nearly five years... when people went their seperate ways; jobs that were out of town, or in one of my friend's cases, a position in the administration of Austin's 'South By Southwest' festival... when we went our seperate ways it was a palpable loss... In the ensuing years I've been part of lesser groups... but none rang quite so true as the first.

YesFans is the closest thing I've felt 'part-of' since that time... I have made friends here who I speak with every day, some have become phone-friends... others, I've met in 'real-life' (There's that phrase again!)... and one, I hang out with on a regular basis...

How did I find Yesfans? I found Yesfans to be quite amazing, thank you! I've made some of my best-ever friends here, my world would spin oh-so less sweetly if not for you all...

So thank you!
Yours as ever,

Earl:yesbird:

Hey ODVD,

I noticed in your profile that you are fifteen and you like Yes, Pink Floyd and ELP.

When I was fifteen, I had the good fortune of seeing all three of those bands consecutively in-between July and October of 1977.

Your profile mentions that you are from Sunnyvale. I got to meet Porcupine Tree at a CD store there last August. Could you please remind me of the name of the store. It is in a shopping strip right next door to a McDonald's

Thanks!

... I just checked with my fiance, she says it is something like "CD Warehouse." Is that the place by a McDonald's?

Your list of bands is an excellent list, and a GREAT start for someone who is in their teens. Do many of your friends find the same appeal to these bands as you do? Okay, I was listening to all of those bands in my teens, but most folks in their teens seem to listen to stuff that .... Christ, I am starting to sound like my f-ing parents.

When you get tired of those bands, some of the most beautiful progressive music comes from Camel. You can't lose with Camel. Don't start with their latest album though.

Next, you should try:

Marillion
Caravan
Clannad
Eloy
Steve Hillage
Mike Oldfield
P.F.M.
Renaissance
Tangerine Dream
Triumvirat

.... and of course, Porcupine Tree!!!

No none of my friends listen to YES, or anthing CLOSE to YeS. It's amazing, when I mention even the most popular classic rock such as PINK FLOYD, everyone is clueless, and hasn't heard of such a group. I then learnt about seach engines and typed in YES. This is what I found and I have been here ever since. I have been using computers for a year this coming Saturnalia on the 25 December.
As a result I have been using the friendly nature of the site to get back to communicating with people after a break of 7 years while I recovered from an accident. I was a recluse during this period of recovery. I still see how clumsy I have become when I post things sometimes but I am improving. A bit anyway ! Just getting back on line, well the more post you reply to here the more feedback or other comments you'll receive in e-mails but they aren't overwelming. The most important thing is getting you into a healthier state of mind with heavy doses of " YES ". May I suggest " Starrship Trooper" it may give you a hint of who the person is like that wrote this. OK KINDA but I'm a major Gates Of Deleium junky.
Enjoy the fans and the spirt of Yes and by for now.

I have known about Yesfans for a long time, but finally stopped by to join. Tim was one of the active members of the old Yahoo Yes Club that David (mr_zog) and I ran.

It's great how the internet has created a way for all us fans of Yes to meet.

Yea I did belong to that Yahoo club. It was a good club, very active but I just never cared for the format that it used, YAHOO. I hated how Yahoo worked. At the time I was learning the ropes on how to run sites like Yesfans.com thought I can run something like the ones I was part of then, so I started Yesfans and the rest is history!

I used to be on a Yes e-mail list called Southside.org. It worked by people sending e-mails to it and it then sent the same e-mail to everyone on the list.

Or you could sign up for the digest version of it. This would send you one big combined e-mail once a day.

It was quite good when people wern't arguing or slagging each other off. One problem with it was the people who would send e-mails to it with HTML turned on. Half of the digest post was full of gobbledegook and crap that really pissed me off at times.

Anyway shortly after September 11 the list seemed to just dry up. For obvious reasons of course, I'm sure many people had much more important things on their minds.

Then all of a sudden I got an e-mail from someone who was on the old list and they mentioned this place. So I joined up and I'm so glad I did.

I've had a lot of fun on here, learned lots of things and not all about Yes either. I've also been turned onto Marillion by "Roman", thanks Mate!

All in all this is the Best Yes website without a doubt. Thanks Tim for running it, you do a fantastic job. Sorry for mentioning some boots by name a few days back, I won't do it again :-)

The people on here are so friendly. When it was my birthday a couple of weeks ago I was amazed to see a "Happy Birthday Brismike" thread with about 9 posts on it already. I kept hoping it would just die away lol .. but more people kept it alive. (Please let it die now lol.)

Anyway thats my story .. is anyone else on here who used to be on the Southside.org list?

Mike

About 9 monts ago I posted a request looking for an Orchestra Seat for the LA show because somehow the onsale date at the ticket outlet was moved up witout my knowledge and I went to get a ticket on the day I thought they were going on sale and the tickets had already been on sale for a week. So instead of buying a seat there I tried to find one from readers of Yesworls io the Tour Hub. It worked, I got a great seat and made some new friends in LA and also got an email about this site and have found a home neighborhood in cyberspace to hang out
As far as the poll - add one for Yesworld - for some reason the system won't let me vote.

when I started reading the posts and various threads on the website, after finding it quite by accident, looking in my history file on my computer for something YES related, found it, I saw it was much more than just a fansite. Witty, varied and rich in music based discussions, I quickly found myself sparing with Q and Dale and Sheila and Earl. I think Sheila and I joined just about the same week or month.

Hi everybody,
This is my first post to Yesfans. I found you all through the Yesworld site. I have been visiting that site and NFTE for quite a while now. I have been a Yes fan since I was 15 (30 years ago!). Along the way I have converted a girlfriend, who is now my wife of 23 years and one of my sons who is 21. I am sorry, but I failed with the youngest one who has not yet seen the light.
I will try and catch up with you regular posters and be a regular contributor myself.
Roll on July 1 and 3rd for my 2 shows this tour!!!

Welcome and enjoy!. There is much to read and discuss here besides the obvious tour news. But I must say have a great time at the shows. From the reports on yesworld it sounds like the band is really starting to heat up. I really hope that a year from now we can be discussing their amazing new studio material.

Ah... this website that is more than just a website! So glad Yesfans found you! Welcome, and post often!

And welcome to YOU Dean Roger!

I'm still considering sending myself in a package, off to the other side of the pond... I need a YES-fix! Perhaps it'll work, if I put some little holes in the top of the shipping-crate, pack along ample supplies of water, food, a discman and the complete recordings of our favorite band... Just the essentials, you know?! ;)

Good to meet you both! A magical place, Yesfans...

All the best, and always more from where that came from!

 I also have no idea how I actually ended up here, just www.click click click yesworld click click yeshoo forum and then Yesfans pops up.I guess most would find the bickering there:fmad: :fmad: to be annoying, but the free expression and exchange of ideas was one of the greatest things about the YEShoo forum. While it should only be down while worldcrossing is getting it's act back together there is the very great possibilty that it's act may be over due to financial reasons.

Doesn't really matter how you got here, just glad you did!

I now live in California, but I used to live in Atlanta. First in Smyrna, then Roswell, and then I bought a home in Lawrenceville. Just a few mad clicks away from YesWorld I guess!
As a new contributor I would just like to add that the guys who run this thing must take alot of the credit for the warmth and sense of community we have all felt at the shows over the last couple of years. This site is by far and away the best run band site I have visited (althouth the Kylie Minogue pictures have you beat hands down).

I must say that I'm VERY fired up that so many urbane members out there say this is the best Yes site on the web. I only heard of Yes for the first time last year, through the computer game Homeworld which Yes wrote their song about - you know the one!

As I started to build up my collection of Yes beyond The Ladder, and rapidly realised that they are the greatest band who has ever graced this world with their music, I got to Yesworld and spent days looking through links for a good site - and since I found this one its the only site I've been coming to! - so glad to hear it really is the best!!!

For a while I was a bit put off by the over-intellectualising on some threads, but then the Yes Pizza Restaurant did it for me. (I think that the muses chose a good time to make me a Yesfan, since they are performing next month in Sydney for the first time in ages... Can't wait Can't wait Can't wait Can't wait etc. etc.)

I stayed on this site in the beginning because it was Rabin friendly. Trevor Rabin was the best thing to happen to the band since Steve and Rick joined. He didn't just keep Yes music the same, he expanded on it in his own creative way (and he's a musical genius).

During the 2001 tour I started seeing a bunch of shows (which quickly became my financial downfall, LOL). I was using the Yesworld extensively, lining up (and getting rid of) tix, pre-show parties, etc. and I kept running into SMatt. He kept suggesting that I check out Yesfans.com. I was a little overwhelmed at first, because there are so many prolific and opionated (in a good way) posters. I tend to go stealth and just check things out, but occassionally I will chime in.

Peace,

This is a great site - very friendly folks here, and you can focus on whatever your interests are, since there are forums for just about everything under the sun! So, pick and choose what you like, and come and party with us often!

Well, I just found this site 5 minutes ago from Yes World, finally!

Ill admit it was hard to find. Ive been to Yes World many many times and Ive always wondered why I never found a Yes Forum. Well, today I finally found it after looking countless times for the forum from the site.

I could be an idiot for not knowing where to look, but Im a web developer and when something that I think is as interesting as a message board is displayed layers deep in the web site, I think it is poorly designed.

Just a little constructive criticism, Im not trying to be rude here. Really, I'm just glad to finally find the forums.

Hey Gus! Welcomee to Yesfans! Glad you finally found the place!

It is a bit frustrating to find form Yesworld! I've heard that often from people. But the Yesfans site is owned and operated by Tim Lutterbie and isn't connected to or controlled by Yes or Yesworld. That way people can say what they want within reason, without band responsibility. I personally, as well as others have petititioned Yesworld for better placement, but to no avail.

Glad you found us, it's a great place!

jope to see you out on the board posting!

I am a new Yes fan. I only discovered Yes a little over a year ago. But about a month ago I was in a music shop and purchased a used copy of Tormato (I was surprised to see any Yes music at all). On the inside CD jacket was written www.yesfans.com. I have never taken the time to look up any websites or information on Yes. The area I was in is not exactly a Yes hub. I don't congregate with others that listen to Yes. I had been working in a town that is located in a very remote part of the country and for that matter the country I was in is in a very remote part of the world. So, finding Tormato was an unexpected find for me and the web address just an added bonus.

I've found that the music is so much more than just music. And I'm reading the most interesting things about how Yes has touched others in so many ways. Listening to Yes and the emotions I go through I am not yet ready to share but it is overwhelming. Thanks to whomever owned the copy of Tormato for leading me to a great and vast Yes World that I am happy to be a resident of.

Hey Southside! Welcome to Yesfans! What a story, that's really cool! I wonder who's Tormato that was?

Glad you found the place, it's 'The Great Yes Place" no doubt. I think you'll enjoy it.

Gus - Welcome - I'm so glad you finally found us! As I just mentioned, this is a very friendly place - folks share their experiences with Yes, and with other aspects of their lives and we really do make friends here.

I would love it to be in a better place on Yesworld, then again if it were they may want more say in how the site is run. Nothing against them, but we do not want that folks!

Tinks 4 the JL reference. It's funny when you think that the original name of Tales (even before it was Blufff) was Flaming Pie, which was another JL reference and now a PMcC album title.

Robert, I thought you'd be off hanging with your bandmates from Crimso, working on that next album/practicing for the next tour. And if you were at a YesShow, you should have jumped onstage and jammed with Steve!

I happen to be lucky enough to work with the #1 YES Fan. Not only does he run an excellent site, he is also quite generous in spreading the love of YES. I have been priveledged to view exclusive videos, listen to exclusive audio, see exclusive photos from backstage, and most importantly have been able to live vicariously through his treks to see one of the best rock bands to ever grace this earth.

Not only has he been benevelent to me, but also to my 15 year old (rock star wannabe) son; turning him on to Dream Theatre who toured recently with YES.

I knew nothing about computers (and still really don't) But I snooped around the site for months, until I signed up with YESnet. All of a sudden, I had YES heads like myself to talk to. So I then bought a computer for my home back in April 05, and here I am!
You guys are great. I thank all of you for being here. Actually, I'm gonna be meeting some of you Aug.24 in Boston, for the pre-show party for the "Drama" tour............

I voted for yesworld (I could have sworn I posted about this a long time ago, but search revealed nothing by BTF?). Yesworld is a little indirect because I believe that I did get an email invite after posting on yesworld. Here is what happened. Classic Tour 2002 (First Leg N.A.), tickets for LA Universal went on sale and by the time I logged onto ticket master or whatever it was, there really were not any good seats left, so I posted on Yesworld that I was interested in one ticket that was a decent seat. This is how I met Smatt. He replied and emailed me and sold me a ticket one row off the pit on Steve Howe's side - very good seat. It seems Matt had a couple of options for single seats, he just gets what he can and then figures out how he will use them. So it worked out great for me and I met a bunch of great yesfans in the LA area that weekend, end of Aug 2002, Hello Omar, Original Shifty, Earl Gray and Ivy, Smatt, Ridvan and Anita.
So the point is that within a day or two from Matt's original reply to me about the ticket, I got an email invite to check out yesfans, so I am pretty sure that the reason I found yesfans is because I posted on the yesworld hub.

I used to be on an email type Yes List called Southside.Org. You could get it in digest mode or all the e-mail's mode. I took up the digest option. It seemed to die about the same time as when 9-11 happened. I remember a guy on it called Eddie J Yessucker . . He actually worked in the World Trade Centre. Luckily he got out ok. Anyway when Southside.Org died I found this and have been on ever since. Although lately I havn't posted much.

On reading the programme I noticed the YES website and the rest is history.

I got so much info from the site including the yesfans.com site.

I've built a great collection of weeds , both CD'S & DVD'S.

Most importantly I've made so many new friends from the site as well as the recently formed " Middle England Chapter ".
