I don't think that it can be ignored that in the last few years while the internet has become more and more popular, Yes shows have had song lists geared more toward the die hard fan. This may sound crazy, but if I was Yes I would be ALL OVER sites like this one getting feedback on what songs the fans want to hear at shows among other things. Don't think for a minute that every member of Yes (are you supposed to capitalize the name, like God?) hasn't spent at least a few idle hours browsing this site. That is why it is the opinion of this Yes freak that on this tour we WILL DEFINITELY be hearing truly whacky selections such as To Be Over, Sound Chaser, and, yes, even South Side of the Sky. Don't kid yourself into thinking that a true musician like Wakeman wouldn't love to sink his teeth into some Relayer stuff either. They will get down to business on this tour. Any bets?

I like the idea of your thread, but I don't have much faith in it. Steve has clearly stated in the past few years that he doesn't care about on-line polls and such. They'll play what they want. And as long as they're promoting new material, I'm fine with that, but if all they're going to do is some nostalgia tour, that's not good. Rolling out the same old stuff would be boring for them, too, so I'm not worried about that, but when it comes to whether they’ll play "Mind Drive", we really can't pressure them. If anything, we'll just piss them off.

The one exception is the poll taken for the MASTERWORKS tour. “We” actually did help bring out “The Gates of Delirium.” I think they were surprised to see it top our Wish List, but I think that’s more an exception to the rule. We got lucky there in that we picked a song they were interested in too. Until I see an Official request poll posted, I’m not going to assume anything.

I can guarantee you that "Sound Chaser" will not be played - ever - by this line up. "South Side of the Sky"? I couldn't say. The real issue with Patrick Moraz-era tunes is less about Rick not liking them and more about the fact that he just can't play them. The jazz twists in "Sound Chaser" and most of "The Gates of Delirium" just don't work for him. (Sort of like me trying to listen to country music. ;))

"To Be Over"? Hmmmmm. I'll have to think about it. I think Rick might actually enjoy playing this one. I'll allow myself to hold out hope for it.

P.S. Capitalize "Yes", but "god", that's a personal choice. :D

"They'll play what they want."

I'm so glad that Yes can be quite amazing when they play what they want. We're in for quite a summer tour!

Do YES ever browse around in this forum? An intriguing thought, but who knows. I have a feeling at least one or two of the guys have peeked in here at one time or another. I'd like to think that if I were in the band I'd pop in here from time to time.

And if they don't do it themselves, I'm sure at someone close to them keeps at least 'half an eye' on us here.

I don't think we will see Rick playing much from Relayer because he has commented that it just wasn't his style. The only song I can see Rick doing from Relayer would be To Be Over. But don't get me wrong, I would love to see Rick do Gates.

I also don't think we will se South Side of The Sky. I have read many times that Yes has tried to work it into the setlist but it just doesn't come off well live.

Maybe a band member has looked in the Yesfans site. But if they saw polls like If Jon were a tree what kind of tree would he be? Or Who is better Alan or Bill? Or YES is ripping us off. I think they would look elsewhere. Maybe the Frida website. I saw Rick scanned his site a few times.I would bet Alan may have peeked in. I'm going to the show expecting to see a great performance. I don't care too much about setlists.>JOE

I can easily imagine Jon seeing that kind of poll ! Too funny mrgone3. What will he think of us ? a group of boring fans... who don't know what to speak about.

When logging into Jon Anderson's website last night, I discovered that he had a video download on the apple.com website. I checked this out tonight and am really glad I did. For there was Jon with guitar in hand playing a raw version of a new track from his upcoming solo opus. The track is called 'Summerlight,' and was a lovely little tune. This wets the appetite for the future release of his solo effort. All credit must go to Jon for giving the Yes fans something extra on the internet, proving how best to use modern technology.

Cheers
Mark

I'm always impressed to see how well Jon has turned and adapted to modern technology (despite his age...). He knows how to deal with his fans. Wasn't he the only Yes member who posted comments on his daily routine life during Magnification Tour ? That was nice of him.
Right now I'm going to watch the video.

Even if any of the band do peek in at this site I'm sure they wouldn't be too offended by some of the more off beat topics. After all they probably assume we're just harmless cyber geeks - thats not how I see us - but I can well imagine that being somebody elses reaction.
The fact that we're still interested after 30+ years should be a sign to them that we're well meaning.
I see quite a few bands now who have had their careers reduced in Spinal Tap type proportions but when they play now they are much more approachable and even affable with their fans. I tend to think that Yes are a bit stand-offish probably because although their circumstances are somewhat reduced from days of yore they are still big enough to play decent sized venues and their fanbase isn't small enough to be easily accessible to them

Mark, I went to Jon's site but can't see the video when I click on it. I only have the sound. Any clue ?

Mark

NICE ONE Mark!!!

Indeed there has been enough 'negative' things going on lately (dare I mention the 'purported' interview with J Elias etc.....
this IS a Yes friendly site and there will always be those 'shadowy' poor humans who because they see others with a real passion and love for something in Life, will knock it, or try to...I say this because ..what Mark has pointed out so beuatifully is that...Jon In putting the excerpt on his website just goes to re-affirm the 'positiveness' of Yes, of the Music and the bands approach to what they do and the people (fans) who have enabled them to be in a position to continue...
Jon Anderson (and fellow band members) have never been shy of taking risks, musically, financially etc...how else would such masterworks like Close To The Edge, Tales From Topographic Oceans etc have been created and realised in the time and place that they were...because they are not afraid to 'Put It On The Line'.....Also Jon has always been something of an Innovator...pushing back the boundaries in his own unique style.............
I know that I am preaching to (mostly) the converted here...BUT
and I know this may not be the place/thread most appropriate to put this...BUT...Marks words reminded me just how negative some people on this YES site can be...So time to point out and re-affirm the 'Postive' and majority element/s...

NICE ONE mark...Keep Rockin' Keep Speakin' your mind....

ps. Thanks for the Tip Off!. (I just gotta figure how to look at the thing..being the luddite I am!).

We Love When We Play....(and so do we Jon...so do We!!).

Peace.

I like your style, kokopelli! And that's not just because you had some nice things to say about my message. I must confess I haven't seen too many bad things said about Yes on this site. On the other hand one Yes fan did term one of my threads 'a joke.' They know who they are! But that's not really important. What is crucial is for all true Yes fans to club together, enjoying the beauty of Yes music for all it is worth. That's exactly what you're doing, kokopelli, and I love it! I feel this even more because I hardly knew any fellow Yes fans before I discovered this truly awesome site. I'm having a field day corresponding with the best musical fans in the business: Yes fanatics. And I'd just like to mention that I have just received my copy of the Yes symphonic Live in Amsterdam DVD. MY verdict after one perusal: mind-blowingly out of this world! A truly cosmic experience which proves once again what Yes are really all about.

An excited Yes fan
Mark
