I'm sorry folks and I know I'm new and all that stuff...but, the sound on Word Is Live is not that impressive. It sounds like they just grabbed some reels of old shows, picked out what someone thought wasn't the usual CTTE/AYAI stuff and did a simple transfer of the stuff.

I have a bootleg of the 1978 medley that completely blows away this collection's version of it.

Yes, being huge sticklers about the sound of things - much more than ELP ever was - must have had nothing to do with this set.

I'm not dreaming or thinking I'm hearing this very poor release of otherwise great material. Many agree over at The Smile Shop (board dedicated to Brian Wilson's unreleased 1966 album) the same way about this box as well. Quite a few Yes fans over where!

What's your feelings on the sound of this box? I'd give it a Fair mark AT BEST.

The best weeds I have are from the last few years recorded on modern equipment. Much of TWIL sounds as good as these or better in some cases. Some is worse, more like an older weed. Audience noise/chat is supressed much more than on most weeds. Overall I'm glad I purchased it. Live Sound Chaser just gives me goose bumps. I don't have any weeds of the medley - but are there really any better than TWIL??

I agree, the sound is fair to poor on "the word is live". some of the earlier stuff is ok, but there are definately boots out there of the the relayer and tormato tours which blow away twil easily in my opinion.

I agree, the sound quailty varies on TWIL, but it doesn't bother me much. It sounds like they were going more for performance quality rather than sound. I especially like the sequencing of the first two discs...they've gotten a lot of play at our house...and unlike many here, I don't listen to a lot of weeds....just my handful of favorites.

The only true SQ bummer for me on this set is the 1980 material.....but it's better than not having it at all!

For being such a stickler about sound, I'm surprisingly forgiving when it comes to this set....

Both the Boston Garden shows 78 and 79 are pretty hot actually

Earl Grey's fav show is the 78 one

I think most of us are used to tape-trading, weeds, and such. I always looked at TWIL as a way to compile a "Best of the Boots"...even though it was an official release.

Makes me wonder if Yesshows will ever get the "expanded" treatment?

I think many of us want the Tales tour to get the expanded treatment - as far as I can tell it remains the only major tour from the 70s without a live official release
