Just a brief review of the show last night by White at Jonas Jensen studios in Seattle's Fremont district. It was a great night with White. :theband:

We got there around 9pm. Kevin Currie was outside chatting with some friends. Inside Alan was standing in the front area with their photographer watching the stand up comedian through the entry way to Studio A. :anncr: Like the audience in the studio, Alan and the photographer were not laughing. :darin: The guy was ok funny, but the room was just too big and the audience was just too far away.

My wife and I sort of surveyed the place for a minute. The place is HUGE!! I didn't know there was a place that big in that part of Fremont (just north of downtown). Anyway, what impressed me most was that the place was super clean and very orderly. You can kind of gather all of this from the pictures at the Jonas Jensen Studios web site.

So then we walked into Studio A to watch a bit of the comedian and Alan is standing right there by himself just inside the entry. No one else near. So there is Alan, myself and my wife just standing there, not laughing at this comedian. Finally I lean over to Alan and ask him when they are going on. He looks at his watch and says "Oh, in about 15, 20 minutes." A minute later he turns to me, smiles and says "In fact, I'd better get back there." I smile and nod, and he walks out.

At last, the comedian ends (no one is happier than he about this) and he introduces White. They all come on stage to some nice applause (there were about 200 people there at this point). The place was so big, though, that the applause was easily drowned out. My wife and I walked up and got our seats at the front tables, dead center. We ended up next to Kevin's wife. What a sweet lady.

They opened with "Sea of Lies" and it was awesome. The sound was GREAT. :1loudspkr Mark Miller, who mixed the album, was running the sound. Kevin was sounding really good. There was quite a distance, though, from the audience to the stage. After the first couple of songs, Kevin was trying to get people to come a little closer. My wife actually prodded us to move closer to the stage, so we got up and walked closer and a bunch of people followed.
They played the entire album (although I do believe they did not get to 'Once And For All'), plus 'Changes' and a new song called 'You Are The Child' as the encore piece. Alan introduced the song as new and that it had never been played. Very cool song. Looking forward to that being release some day.

Everyone was playing and sounding great. Mark Cardenas did a great job on keys, filling in for Geoff. :keyboard: He was making some great sounds and some very fine solos. He did this funk solo before breaking into 'Changes' - after all, he did play with Prince and Janet Jackson.

A real treat was the debut of "Waterhole" live and watching Karl Haug play that great intro on his acoustic. :rghtAG: Very cool. One thing about Karl Haug - he is a very fine player and is quite versatile. They played 'Fate' again which showcases Karl on the lap steel.

:drummer: Alan played a couple of short solos between some pieces. He also paid a small tribute to John Lennon just by saying that he appreciated knowing him. I thought they might play 'Imagine' after that, but they didn't.

After the show we talked with Kevin Currie for a few minutes. Very cool guy. He said the band really enjoyed playing all those songs, although they had planned on one more but ran out of time (I think this was 'Once And For All'). They were on stage for about 75 minutes.

We went into Studio A again just before midnight as Type A took the stage. They are mainly a funk dance band. :disco: Kevin and his wife saw us and wished us a Happy New Year. :dnce: We saw Karl, Hogan, and Steve Boyce in there as well dancing with their S.O.'s, but did not spot Alan.

Anyway, I kissed my wife at midnight. :hearts: We danced a few songs :dnce: :dnce: and went home.

All in all:

Not this time but, you can be assured that both Machine Messiah and Tempest Fugit will be part of their live lineup with Downs and the Concert DVD. They do a killer rendition. They did play Changes. And a couple of new songs which were awesome.

o ok...because when I spoke to Alan at Joe's Pub he mentioned that the band either played or was practicing Machine Messiah and Tempus Fugit, but with the noise I did not hear correctly. Thanks for clearing it up.

And i just remembered...speaking of changes... At BBKings Tuesday night, I heard Alan and the boys playing Changes during their sound check. I just heard the musical intro, no verses or anything...probably just a warm up before they ran through the Syn music.

The 'Machine Messiah' I saw them play last year was amazing. I know they are still planning on playing that along with 'Tempus Fugit' when they tour. There is also another Drama song under consideration.

Currie nails everything. The dude rocks.
