I think that Shoot High Aim Low is just like And You And I.
Cause there is a remsblance, in terms of the bass drums, that they share.
Does anybody think that or caught that?

I'll have to listen for it

No, I don't see the connection. And You and I is a masterpiece which Shoot High Aim low has it's moments. It doesn't have the same feel either.

While Shoot High Aim Low is a good song, it is no And You And I. And You And I was at a point in time where Yes seemingly could do no wrong!

Can't see it myself. AYAI and SHAL are great songs but I can't see much of a connection

Okay, do you know when Bill goes
BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM THRAK
While Alan goes (on Shoot High):
BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM THRAK
I'm not crazy, LOL.
Its something that I could show with the music not with mere words...
ALAS!

I'm not comparing both songs, in terms of overall musical superiority.
I'm using one and only on feasable example of a similarlity of both songs, which is the kick/bass drum.
WHEW!

Well, I think AYAI is the superior song.... But SHAL is also a good song and one of the Westies best songs no doubt.... I love it, has great feel, great emotion... But it's to straight and to the point you know.... It lacks the mysticism of AYAI..... But the later seems to be loosely modeled on the former.......

There is absolutely no connection between these 2 songs.
You may as well say that Close to the edge and the Beatles'
Blackbird are similar 'cos of the bird noises.

I must agree. AYAI has so many tempo changes, and identifiable segments. There may be a few seconds where there's a resemblance, but that's a coincidence. They were not composed alike at all.

Now you 2 are being ridiculous.... Not composed the same at all  Never said that....... But the over all direction of the song, the feel they attempted to show, and present as a piece of the album. :smurf:

What's the mysticism?
AYAI is HIGHLY mystical. I voted for it in the Semi finals. I will give you my detailed take this evening. It's cosmic, man.

LMAO!
Round 35,003
OH Trevor's just taken a nasty blow to the spleen, but he gives a resounding uppercut to Steve's Vegetarian jawline. Amazing fight. Wait wait!!! There's a fan running up to the ring! No! No! It's not a fan, it's Jon Anderson!!! He's just tagged Howe and is getting Rabin in a headlock. O my god, o my god the horror! Wait what's this???? Tony Kaye's just appeared!!! He's got one hand in the air. What's he doing, what ---- o my god he's just jabbed Anderson in the eye! He's doing nothing with the other hand.

Break it up guys! You both know you're just making a joke of it. Now, I told you I would listen again and I have: so here's what I can offer after some fresh impressions. You both are missing something.
I can see there is a connection. Listen again Steve. You know this has nothing to do with what you eat. It's how it feels. I'm just giving you my honest answer.
To Hed G and Yes Fan 4 Life: You're both wrong -- there is a faint connection, but as I hear it, it's got NOTHING to do with the drums. That's why Hed gave you a big NO, he's listening to rhythm.
The connection is how it feels coming from the guitar, that's all. It's got an 'end of the day' feeling. A very relaxed sum up my day type of thing.
The drums are as different as two songs could be. Why? In SHAL the drums LEAD. The rythm is driving. Gently throbbing. In AYAI, the instruments define everything. Bill is following and adding punctuation is his effective way. Totally different role for Alan here and that what makes AYAI better. I say NO.
AYAI mystical? You bet. Picture a scene. This song starts of around a campfire. Guitar only. Then Jon adds voice and there's bass to support. The fire roars. The keyboards come in and you see shooting stars, you can hear the cosmos in section II. It's like it slowly spins to a higher and higher (astral?) plane as more instrumentation cuts in. Then it's back to simple acoustic guitar around the fire. All this grandiose stuff is packed into a simple earthy organic package and as it gets unstuffed it's like Pandoras box opens. Mystic. I voted for it in the Semis.
By the way to comment on the K. Emerson vote going on I'd just say he's never blended into any kind of organic weave. He's like a Ferarri engine that wont stop and constantly looking for a garage. Not the top of the deck to me.

I don't know about any connection between the two songs...I like the term "faint",lol...
But(and every time I see the title of the thread, this is what I think about, not any connections to other songs:),this much I DO know-Alan OWNS And You And I!
All the live versions available out there to us serve to point this up with eloquence. The man just owns this song, and for that matter huge portions of all of Close To The Edge!
As wonderful and unique a drummer as Bill Bruford was and is,and I know,he never really got to go out and prove himself on this material(his choice!),it is Alan White who gives it back to us the way it was meant to be heard.
I cannot tell you how many times I have screamed at the band(and at Alan!),"THAT'S RIGHT!!!" at Yesshows. It is a large,a very large number of times!
And now, back to your debate :lmao:

Can't read all these posts, but I'll weigh in anyway: no. Both are in my top 15 favorite YEssongs. But no.
