View Full Version : Yes Dream Lineup

Most people are ga-ga with the Anderson, Squire, Howe, White and Wakeman lineup. But my dream lineup would be Anderson, Squire, Howe, Bruford and Moraz. Bruford is pretty much self explanatory. But I've always put Moraz just a slight notch over Rick because Patrick expands into jazz more where Rick is pretty much stuck on classical. That's why I've always put Relayer about neck and neck with CTTE. That album had a more refreshing feel to it. With groups like Mahavishnu, Weather Report and Return To Forever making the scene, it seemed fitting for Yes to go that route somewhat. They certainly had the chops to do it.

Rabin, Squire, White, Downes
Not that I don't like Jon, but I think this would be a pretty good hard rock, instumental rock group. That would my dream lineup.
Other one would be....
Squire, Bruford, Banks, Howe, Moraz
This lineup would be some serious jazz instrumental stuff. Awesome stuff it would be....

Bruford, Howe, Anderson, Moraz, Hodgson
I think Mark Hodgson would add some youth and I love the way he plays with bruford.
Upright bass in yes would sound great IMHO. Let the four guys spontaniously improv for 2 months and the bring anderson in. Work for another 2 months then record. It would be the best thing since Relayer.

I agree with AGP... Anderson, Howe, Squire, Bruford and Moraz... it'd be cool to see the latter two, who were never in the band together but have worked together, add some jazziness to the band's sound...
I've also thought, since there have been so many incarnations, that we could have two co-existing Yes bands at the same time... not like 1989 when they were fighting, but basically two branches off one tree... in that instance, the second Yes lineup would be Horn (voc, bass), Rabin, Wakeman and White...

Anderson, Howe, Squire, White and Downes.
And no I don't want Trevor back in Yes.
He can do much better things on his own. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/Cinderella528/N99%20Smileys/tongue.gif

That would be a helluva Yes fest! But in our dreams!

Just because I'm on a union/talk kick.
Jon, Trevor, Wakeman, Bruford, White, and Squire.
I would love to hear the Talk stuff played live agian and I would love to hear Bruford play electric drums on some of the Talk stuff. And because where talking dreams here... Trevor would actualy know how to play AYAI so my skin wouldn't crawl when he plays it!

I'm fine with the current line up but I'd also love to see The Relayer lineup with either White or Bruford on drums or the current lineup but with Geoff Downes taking over on keys.

Ditto. I'd love to hear what Bruford and Moraz together would do to the mix.

Howe, White, Anderson, Moraz, Squire.......and Jewel.
She doesn't have to sing, dance or anything - it's just that I don't find any of the Yes members attractive :)

Wow...I considered starting a thread on this very subject, but I went back in time and look what I found!
I would love to see Anderson, Squire, White, Rabin, and Wakeman do something together. I love Steve Howe, but he's gotten a chance to play and record with every keyboardist Yes has ever had; Trevor hasn't had the opportunity. And it would fulfill band members' wishes too, because I've heard that Rabin and Wakeman would've liked to collaborate, but were never able to in a Yes lineup.
Second choice would be the aforementioned with Moraz instead. Knowing what Patrick and Trevor have done outside Yes, I could see some very fun world beat things going on there... :headset:

I would say Trevor Horn, Billy Sherwood, Tony O' Riley, Eddie Jobson, and well I guess it would have to be Chris on bass---What a dream that would be!!

I totaly agree...Moraz has a modern, experimental, edgyness I love.
I have been listening to FOOW with Squire, Bruford, and Moraz...A very unique sound, and Andrew Jackman countering the keys on piano is amazing...! :appl[1]:
Alan would fit perfectly too...:drummer:
A darker/heavier/experimental Rabin could be interesting too... toooo many good possibilitys!

Relayer lineup.
:beerchugr: That was the most interesting line up... IMO
in 2008 maybe:
Anderson
Bruford
Downes
Horn?
Howe
Rabin
Squire
Wakeman
White
performing not so obvious gems from the whole catalog live.
then, everybody to the studio, to push new obscure and beautiful Yesground... 40 years to a new level.:yesbird:

That was my answer 2 years ago after having just discovered the music of Yes.
Today my dream lineup would be only slightly different:
Squire, Rabin, White, Kaye, Sherwood.

How about:
Howe
Squire
Anderson
Rabin
White
Moraz or Wakeman
I want both Rabin and Howe so we can get a mix of music from both their eras in the band. And it'd also be nice if, just this once, the Tempus Fugit riff during Whitefish actually materializes into Tempus Fugit in it's entirety (maybe we could get Rabin to sing it).

How can anybody's perfect yes line up not include Rick? The only keyboardist close to him is keith emerson(Rick's faster while keith seems to me a little better)
On that note, my perfect yes line up is the latest one
White and Squire Complement each other
Wakeman and Howe complement each other
Jon's great regardless

My dream lineup would be :
Rabin/Moraz/Bruford/Berlin/Anderson
Now that would really kick some real ass... musically speaking !It would be a good band no question. Only problem is it would not be Yes without Chris Squire. The only founding member to NEVER lose focus and NEVER lost sight of the band. It's also why they are just on hiatus and not totally broken up!!!
And besides... just exactly what is wrong with Oliver taking up Dad's role in the band. Don't knock it till you try it! It's still Wakey! He even looks like his Dad. If we are going to keep insisting that Yes is Rock Royalty then this should be totally acceptable if Oliver steps up to Dad's role. You Brits should know about this. I believe Prince Charles is in line for the British Throne. So why not Oliver?

oh sure Chris Squire I wouldn't mind at all.
My choice about Patrick Moraz, I will stick to it, let me explain why:
What I did like with Patrick Moraz on Relayer is the fusion side he brings to the music when he takes a lead (for instance on sound chaser). I also liked the solo on the tour.
Rick Wakeman is a fine classically trained player but he's so predictable and all his solos all sound the same.
The combination of Rabin with Moraz and Bruford would probably bring a jazzier Yes with unpredictable developments.
Of course this absolute Utopia.
