[FONT=Arial]Hi Yesheads,
I tried this in the "Indroduce Yourself" threads, but got no takers, so I'll try it here. Hopefully, some of you vastly knowledgeable Yesheads can point me in the right direction.
I'm trying to get a concensus of opinion (if there is one) on which is the best video performance (VHS or DVD) of Heart of the Sunrise. I'd like to know about sound quality, picture quality, etc. I appreciate any help you can give me.
Thanks Everyone,

Welcome to Yesfans decoman48!
Hmmmm, good question really.... I'll have to give that some thought! There's so many out there now...Is this limited to "official" releases or does it include boots?

My pick would be on 'Union Tour Live' The Japanese release of the Shoreline Ampitheatre, Mountainview, California show. August 8 1991.
On this one there is the advantage of seeing a very clear, high quality picture and sound film, with the best possible combination of musicians on stage.
This can be a hard one to get, as it is a 'semi official' release. But worth chasing up.
Because it is 'semi official' it can't be traded on this site. Otherwise copies of the DVD come up on e-bay ( for a big price) or you can trade something for it with other fans, away from here.
Just my 2 cents.

I would have to go with the AWBH version, also, I believe from Mountainview, CA. Bruford makes the difference. The way it goes in and out of a Bruford solo makes it unique...

Definitely, it would be ABWH performance mentioned above - mostly because of the greatest Anderson's voice that's been already captured on video officialy.

I agree. That opinion does not go down too well with some of the big Bass Man's fans. Jeff Berlin does a great job, but it it is definitely a different experience without Chris,
The Video work is what does it for me. Superb images and close-ups of Steve, Rick, and Bill's work.
LOVE IT!
Regards, Brian

There's an unofficial DVD called "sounding out" which was
filmed by the BBC just after Wakeman joined in '71.
It combines live footage with interviews and has some
snippets of heart of the sunrise played by the line-up
that recorded it.

I think the ABWH and Union vids both have good performances but it still blows my mind that after so much time, there has never been an official pro-shot video with a five or six man lineup playing HOTS with no Jeff Berlin and little to no electric drums. I wonder if maybe somewhere out there there's Philly '79 out-takes with a version of HOTS.
