Hello all... (and apologies if you read this in more than one place!)

I know this is not normally done outside of the Ebay and for sale thread but hopefully you guys will feel this is for a good cause and bear with me!

My wife is currently stuck in a job that she doesn't much like. She's underused and underpaid and things are really getting her down. She's always wanted to work with children and would really love to be a teaching assistant in a primary school, however the rules have changed over the last few years and it's now essential to get a qualification before you can apply for these jobs. Problem is, we don't have the money to pay for the tuition fees. Hence:

THE MEGA MASSIVE (Mostly) PROG CD SALE!

http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZmoosegoose37QQhtZ-1

Here it is, our entire CD collection. Yes, really. (Well, not quite, it's the entire of the CDs we decided we couldn't live without last time we sold some off to pay for our new bathroom!)

315 CDs - mostly prog, with a few non-proggy things on the last couple of pages. I've started everything at £2.00 which is a complete bargain by anyone's standards. Even if every CD sells for £2.00, that's a fair chunk of the fees paid, and I'm hoping that you good people will find some things you'd like and bid on them - help get us closer to paying the whole lot!

In amongst the list you will find (mostly) complete album collections plus the odd rare CD single from:

Genesis
Phil Collins
Peter Gabriel
Steve Hackett
Mike and Mechanics
Yes
Flower Kings (and Kaipa / Tangent / Roine Stolt)
Spock's Beard (and Neal Morse)
Transatlantic
Marillion
IQ
Porcupine Tree
Mike Oldfield

In a non-prog vein there's also complete collections from a few other artists (Billy Joel / Divine Comedy / Beautiful South).

So please pop along, have a look, and fill some gaps in your collections!

Thanks for reading...

James

James I really identify with this post and applaud your wife for doing it. I had been teaching adults for more than 10 years, and then saw that the Governement for desperate for teachers so I thought it would be 'easy' to get into primary teaching....problem was they weren't short of Primary Teachers..only Secondary...so I had spent some time trying to get onto PGCE, GTP doing some voluntary work experience at schools 3 Years down the line still no luck. Surprisingly I WAS able to get supply teaching initially secondary, then primary, but then the supply situation changed and schools started to use teaching assistants to cover, so supply stopped. I tried to get teaching assistant job, but as you say to no avail because I didn't have the qualification. So this year I took a risk, I decided to do teh NVQ Level 3 Teaching Assistant's Course. It costs over £400 I persuaded my mother to make it my birthday and Chritsmas presents for the next two years!
The course also required me to work a minimum of two days a week in a school which I am now doing on a voluntary basis. If I get any other work I have to work around the days I am at school. I must admit though it is great working with those work people ..I am constantly inspired by their enthusiasm for life.
So James I wish you and your wife the very best of luck with your venture..I just wish I could pay you to KEEP them rather than sell, but unfortunately I am in the same situation as you pretty much. One tip though, before you sell everything make sure your recordings are on a player for example like Real One Player or an mp3 so that you won't lose your songs completely just the hard copy.
I wish you both the very best of luck.

James:

Welcome to Yesfans.

I wish you and your wife success, but I hope you post more than this link to your e-gay sale.

I've already checked it out as I saw you first on the Porcupine Tree forum. HEE HEE.

He's got a lot of good stuff, and he WILL ship to the US as long as the buyer pays the shipping (I just sent a CDR to a friend in the UK for $1.60, so it shouldn't bee too bad).

Cheers!

James, will you reduce postage costs for combined bids? I've put a bid on a few CD's.

It cost me £1.75 to send the Yesfans CD to the US, that's about $3.22 for one CD.

Well with kind thanks to the many members of this and other forums who bid on my items, we managed to raise..... drum roll....

£2,000!! (give or take a couple of quid.)

Thank you all for being so supportive! I reckon once we've taken out eBay's fees we'll have more than enough to pay the tution fees and maybe pay off the overdraft too! ;)

Hope you all enjoy your CDs if you bought any!

(Now to plough on with the mammoth task of packing them up and posting them!)

James (who has posted here before actually but finds this forum rather huge and very daunting!)
