I've always thought the chords were Gmaj, Gmi, Cmaj.
Now, thanks to Paostby I noticed ocassional use of EbMaj instead of Gmi. Doeasn't anyone know how does it differ through the time? Don't have sorta clear image of that...

Actuallly, they are G/D (G major in a "C" shape, 10th fret root with D in the bass
10th fret 6th string)
Now...slide that same shape down to a 6th fret root to make Eb/Bb
Slide that shape down to 3rd fret root to make C/G
Repeat as needed.
Essentially you were correct. Although Eb/Bb IS the sound, I can see confusing a G minor triad with that sound.
Eb minor would be a HUGE mistake!

Wurm is recycled from Nether Street by Bodast, the group Steve was in prior to Yes, whose album was selved at the time. Disillusion meanwhile is recycled from For Everyone.
Great ideas don't die they get transplanted.

To improvise over these changes, first find the common tones.
G major= G B D
Eb major = Eb G Bb
C major = C E G
You can "hint" at the forthcoming Eb chord by substituting a G minor pent. to create a more bluesy sound over the G major. Remember, "blues"= wrong against right. A flat third over a major triad.....
Based on the keyboard and guitar players I have worked with, they play the lead lines over an Eb. I see Wakey doing the same thing, but that guy does tend to make his own rules from time to time. :winknudge
The Eb with a D (the Gmin bit) is just adding a maj7, so it's far from illegal ;). Many times, the bass guitar will define the chord, anyway. The bass does play Eb more often than not.
All in all, whatever sounds good. Mix and match to your ear's content. Most sheet music I've seen shows it to be a Eb, for what it's worth.
The chords all sound Major to me, though. The progression does follow the Cmin triad, which is what always gave it that minor sound, though.

Although I actually don't play guitar - I play keyboards, thanks for the answer.
I wouldn't say that it's WRONG with Gmi, but with Ebmaj it IS the real thing, I'd say... ;)
