The only information regarding the performances on Yessongs is a mention that they were recorded on tour during 1972. I'd like to know what cities and/or venues the songs were recorded in - they included this info on Yesshows. Anybody have an idea???

I've seen this question pop up before. Try forgotten yesterdays. http://forgottenyesterdays.com/

It lists the shows but not sure about the songs on the record. I'd sure like to know myself!

I recall seeing it somewhere that the CTTE on the Yessongs album is the same one from the Yessongs film, which would put it at the Rainbow Theatre, London in December of '72.

thanks for the responses... I was pretty sure CTTE was from the movie... there are some cool bits Howe does with the sitar-guitar in that version that he doesn't do anywhere else...

Precise date Rainbow Theatre London, 15 December 1972

Basically Eddy Offord decided to film the concerts at the Rainbow less than 24 hours before the show and asked Nigel Lubey (one of the engineer crew who was an amature film buff to get together some of the crew and some cameras to film the event. It was not at all a professional film crew and the stage angles and lighting were less than ideal.

The version of Roundabout on Yessongs is from Ottawa 1972. It was recorded at the National Arts Center. The NAC is a beautiful venue with four stages. The largest stage, The Opera stage is a midsized theatre and would be a great place for Yes to play if they ever return to Ottawa.

A bit extra on this.

Starship Trooper & CTTE were from the December 15 1972 concert at the Rainbow Theatre

As stated before, Roundabout was from November 1 1972 Ottawa concert.

I remember my late father telling me a story from about the time of Yessongs.

He was at a YES gig in Newcastle(UK) and the band paused. They announced that they would be recording the next song....so if you need to cough please do so now !!!!!

He couldn't remember which song, who knows if it was ever released, just a funny story !

My parents saw Yes in '72 in Waterloo in London, Ontario. My dad says they were recording that night. I don't think any of that is on Yessongs, unless some of the songs combine recordings from different nights, which is very possible.

Someone DOES cough during the quiet bit on The Fish, Chris Squires bass solo!

I have a somewhat similar story to Ernie's. When I saw Yes the first time on the Fragile tour in Wash DC, Jon Anderson mentioned that they were taping. And I distinctly remember the "Shave and a Haircut" intro to Perpetual Change. So who knows? When I first bought the album and heard that I jumped-up and said "That's it! I was there!"

But the only famous live album I know for sure I was present at is Little Feat's Waiting For Columbus.

I've heard it but there also seems to be some radio interference or maybe someone just chattering near a mike. Probably the latter.

Hi folks,

Does anyone remember a feature on YesWorld from around 1998 about some live tapes being found in an office basement in London? If memory serves they were said to date from 1972, which would make it the CTTE tour. Whatever happened to them subsequently? With modern technology, whatever condition those tapes are in surely they could be restored? As much as I love Yessongs, it would be great to have restored versions of these shows, hopefully in sound quality that eclipses the weaknesses of the released versions.
I'm also wondering if the 1978 Wembley show will ever be released by the BBC. Presumably they own the original tapes of that show. They released a lot of other archive material from the '70s (Led Zep, Caravan, etc.) I can't see why a deal can't be struck between the all the interested parties to make this material available in pristine sound for all of us to enjoy?

I think I brought that up in an earlier post... the tapes were left inside road cases, which were put into storage for decades! Yes has them, because they had this whole photo op when the people who found them (road case company employees I believe) presented them to Steve... they need to do an alternate Yessongs, with different selections... there's already a bootleg like that, so how about a legit release?

unrelated to yes -- but what the heck --

The Queen Live Killers album - - - Me and my buddies saw Queen during
that tour in Detroit and we all swore that that album was our show.
No city was described on the album jacket, but all the songs were there
that they played and we especially remember the part where the crowd
sang the verse to "Love of my Life" and the band just paused.

That Queen concert was one of my favorites.

I was at Massey Hall in Toronto all 3 nights that Rush recorded All The Worlds A Stage in 1976. I can even point myself out in the crowd photo on the vinyl lp version
