Just found this DVD yesterday at my record store. Wow what a cool disc. Its like a VH1 special with lots of critical interviews, and some band member interviews. I only had time for about 1/2 of it so far. I'm up to Close to the Edge. Of the band they have only gotten Howe on camera yet. Looks to be a fairly new retroscpective: Steve looks to be about spectacles wearing age...
Comment if you have seen this. I like how there's this music commentator/musician commenting on Roundabout with guitar in hand and kind of teaches you how to play the song! LOL. Seems like they have one commentator for every instrument to give you a specialist perspective....
I'm learning a lot of stuff. Hadn't listened to the older albums in a while. I must admit I forgot how much I really DO like Jon's voice on Survival. Woah and I've been on a Bruford kick recently. It just hit me he was 18 when Yes was recorded. He looked so much like Robert Plant! Howe was talking about the first album with Rick Wakeman: "We didn't want to come out and say the band WAS Fragile, but then Bill looked at one of the packing crates and said 'Hey, why don't we call it Fragile?'" Made me laugh I kind of saw them more as real people. Here was Steve Howe kind of making a mock voice of Bill. I can just see them sitting around having a good time trying to pick an album name.
By the way I like how Steve bounces around when he's playing The Clap. Looks like he's holding a baby almost...

I have heard a lot of critical views on this series; but the way you're describing it – I might consider to check it out.

I have the DVD - I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised, but actually I found it disappointing. Who are those commentators anyway? It looks like they are a bunch of session musicians an barely-known music producers. They don't have any direct connection or past relationship with the band, it seems to me (with maybe one exception - the writer from Melody Maker, I believe?) So their haughty opinions are dubious at best. Plus the guy "deconstructing" Your Move dosen't even have the right chords.

Its cool; lots of close up footage (so far) of Astral Traveler, No Experience Necessary, Survival... They really focus on how the band came to be based on Jon and Chris. Great stuff.

Yea that one bald guy is a jerk! The only guy I like is the sound tech who sounds french... I agree with you there. I was kind of relieved to finally see Steve. I'm watching the rest tonight. I liked it because it kind of informed me about things I didn't know. Like I enjoyed seeing them driving around in a dune buggy acting nutty like the Beatles in Help! and seeing Bill driving it smokin a cig. LOL. Bunch of clowns. ...but if you know the band I can see what you mean.
I've mentioned this before several months ago on a similar thread.
I like it because I enjoy hearing people analyzing the emotional impact as well as the technical side of YES music. These guys really were able to put the music into context of the era as well. I've always felt that this is very important when trying to understanding the immense impact YES music had on fans 'back in the day'. Each new album was like waiting for Santa Claus to arrive with something original and mindblowing. I was disappointed and surprized that the French guy was the only one who really thought TALES was a masterpiece. When I watch the video , I usually turn it off when they start bashing TALES. Overall I love all the differences of opinion
and the details given about the music. What other "rock" band can you analyze in this way? Good stuff but unfortunately it stopped at TALES which implies that YES lost their brilliance. I wish they'd at least talked about RELAYER. I'm very curious what they'd say.

Cráááááp! They put in Steve Howe as a seller. Some studio and roadcrew looking guys telling me about Yes. Someone sent it to me as a gift and that is all the money I would spend on it.

I just got this and I thought it was a big let down.
Who are these so called "critics"???
The cover is very misleading. As I was watching this DVD I thought OK where's the band? the small glimpses of YES that we do get are from other DVD's: YESsongs, Musicland etc.
the Dunebuggy shots are on the very common VCD's going around for years now.
This is the only YES DVD I would gladly trade for a live show on CDR. Too bad I can't return a DVD after it has been opened.

I thought it a complete waste of money. But it is the only DVD concerning YES that I have felt that way about; - so I suppose I'm still in front.

I'm in agreement YYY. See the thread on the bonehead Jerry. What a trashmouth he had about Tales.

Im sure glad i read this...ive been eyeing this DVD for a little while now...but a little voice inside always told me not to buy it..especially since they are asking $32.00 Cdn for it...and considering that Keys To Ascension DVD is $38.00...i think that would be a better buy after reading the comments

Caveat emptor! The interviews with the alleged experts - who the fork are these people anyway?? - are mind numbing ("Tales is a crap album") and the footage is mostly from Yessongs.

Do NOT pay more than $5 for this one. The footage is neat and its informative. But get the Yes Acoustic, or The Word Is Live if you want some quality. Seeing Jerry Ewing make me want to vomit, he's such a metal headed fool. Let me warn you away if you have a sensitive stomach.
