Deadwing (obviously from Deadwing)
Don't Hate Me (from Stupid Dream)
Mother & Child Divided (extra on Deadwing DVD-A)
Buying New Soul (from Recordings)
So Called Friend (from Lazarus single)
Arriving Somewhere But Not Here (from Deadwing)

Radioactive Toy (shortened 6 minute version) (originally from On the Sunday of Life, appeared on the Stars Die compilation and the Coma Divine live album)

WHOA. So cool.

I'm bummed that we lost "Even Less," but wow! we got "Buying New Soul!"

Sounds like they're doing more meloncholic/slower stuff on this leg.

Bring it freakin' ON!

Man, I'm so stoked that I decided to do a 4 show minitour! ASBNH AND TSOSB in the same set! I think I'd just crawl up and DIE.

MACD is one of my favorite instrumentals, ever!

I figured they'd do "Open Car," as it is the only Deadwing song not performed on the last leg, but I didnt' think they'd lead off with it.

TOO FREAKIN' COOL!!!

Now if they would just do the extended version of "Even Less"....

Open Car!!
Buying New Soul!!
Heartattack in a Layby!!
Radioactive Toy!!

This is EXCELLENT news.

If only they did a nice long version of mooonloop... :headset:

But still, this setlist is as good as it gets!

Got tickets for the London show and I think I'll probably go to the Manchester gig, even if it means I have to go alone...

WOW, that's really great set! I hope I will catch them in Europe in November or December. Don't Hate Me, So Called Friend, Buying New Soul, Heartattack in a Layby, Radioactive Toy.... :valintine

I think they dropped Even Less because it has been played so many times since Stupid Dream was released. So SW probably decided to give it a rest for some time.
But maybe they could play the extended version when (if) Recordings get reissued...

Atlanta setlist was identical to Tampa.

SW also said that the new Blackfield should recorded in January.

Apparently the version of Radioactive Toy is "extremely bluesy."

Heaven/Hell/Purgatory.....They don't call it "Hot'Lanta" for nothing....
I went to see PT at The Masquerade Club in Atlanta this weekend so here is MY "experience"......enjoy!! I did!! :rcking:

Well, I HAVE "Gravity Eyelids" still from the "trip" down south for the PT/Deadwing Tour Stop so here goes..... :harp:

Venue: The Masquerde Club on North Ave.-a block off of Ponce de Leon (near Ga Tech/Emory U/Agnes Scott College-(WhooHoo, an all girls school that my Atlanta gal friend and person I first saw YES with attended and there were Agnes Scott girls in attendance)...but I digress......the club is located in an old grist mill factory building so it has very high, lofty ceilings, distressed floors, stairs, walls, etc and is painted all BLACK....kinda a Tim Burton/Road Warrior/Rocky Horror Picture Show/Addams Family Factory Building.....there are still the rusted "workings" of industrial equipment used to grind, crush and pulverize things (much as PT did this evening to their fans delight...) :1loudspkr there were also Zorro-like iron chandeliers with red lights in them hanging but I enjoyed taking in the atmosphere that the many suspended caskets with their "monster" corpses provided......speaking of "Corpse Brides", several of the "staff" were carrying on the "theme" of the Masquerade Club by dressing as French Maids, Nurses, S&M mistresses complete with piercings, full frontal and back body tattoos and so were a large percentage of the fans.....the tattoo of the evening speaking of Johnny Depp was a large "Edward Scissorshand" arm tattoo sported by a gal dressed in 80's retro pink lepherd skin halter complete with big hair...she kept asking was WASP playing??? :lady:

The club itself was divided into 3 distinct sections so when we were waiting in the great hall to enter the portion PT was performing a "Riff Raff" like employee came out and announched the fire marshall (Fire Marshall Bill-from In Living Color??) would not allow so many folks blocking the entrance/exit door so we could go into the rooms on either side of us, even though the whole place looked as if it had already burnt down.......one area was called "Purgatory" with a bar and pool tables and where most of the monster corpse caskets were located and the larger area across the hall was called "Hell" where up and coming bands perform and sometime there is a "Disco-Inferno"...get it??...lol, anyway neither was air conditioned so the "heat was on" to get upstiars into "Heaven" where PT was to perform and there was AC!! I knew this because earlier when I arrived to pickup my "will call" tickets I could hear a band doing their "soundcheck" so I had already been to "Heaven", slipping right past "Riff Raff" to watch PT do their soundcheck!!

The Fans: As I sood in the "will call" line I noticed several YES parents and YES kids wearing YES Tour shirts, also several Musical Box t-shirts and of course PT t's. the "Halo" shirt was popular..As mentioned before the crowd was from age 9 to at least 53....lol, one of the S&M barmaids may have been older judging by the amount of droop, not that I minded but I digress...There were some Andy Warhol "Electric Banana" t's being sported too.....Banana Splits anyone? One 30-something gal passed out on the floor during "Halo" and sat against the wall rocking one foot during the encore....now that's die-hard..the three Agnes Scott coeds in front on me were circled all night by "Indie-Rocker" man/child sharks probably thinking since they were traveling in a cluster together that they would have three times the odds of success and also noticing that two smoked clove ciggies and had fairy/wizard tattos visible under their mesh-like tops, not that I noticed....Deja Vu/Flashbacks-far out man! .....anyway, on to THE CONCERT......

PT Performance/Setlist: "Will Call" opened at 7pm, at one point I read the show was to start at 8pm, then we were told 9pm or 10pm and judging from the "sales" at the PT concession/t-shirt/poster stand I figured 10pm and the Rocky Horror Picture Show "staff/barmaids" were doing a brisk business too, sales were UP and out at the bar......When PT came on there was of course a loud cheer of appreciation and also laughter since the drummer was sporting a "Varsity Drive-In" paper waiters hat....the Varsity Drive In is near the campus of Ga Tech and has been an Atlanta eating tradition since the 60's....good to see the band get involved with the local culture, y'all.....This was the first time I had seen PT live and they sound much like the live boots I have except I think the vocals could be a little higher in the mix but since most of the crowd were familar enough with the tunes to be singing along it didn't matter....the film used as a back drop was interesting and added alot to the tunes too.....the band played with ALOT of energy and enthusiam being the second night of this leg of the tour, many new songs were being tried out and I think some of their energy was present because they had just finished off several chili dogs and cheese fries prior to taking the stage, Steve Wilson played with intensity and with a happy/content glow you see when a parent shows off their children....You can sense he really enjoys his profession and appreciates his fans, he also had good interaction with other members of his band. What a talent!! Here's the Tampa (previous night setlist) performance setlist which I think was the same but I was standing between the 3 Agnes Scott fairy goddesses and Elivira the barmaid helping make the AC in "Heaven" have to work overtime so I might have distracted....a very intense/interesting/entertaining evening......Heavenly!!

Show setlist :

Blackfield Setlist 9/25 NYC

Blackfield
Open Mind
The Hole In Me
Glow
Pain
Epidemic
Miss You
Hello
Cloudy Now

Blackfield is a side project consisting of Steve Wilson and Aviv Geffen, an Israeli singer hugely popular in Israel. For the live shows, they have two additional musicians.

There are only two Blackfield shows planned, this one, which was part of an open-air event called (and I'm not kidding) Jewsapalooza.

Blackfield is also opening the Rhode Island show.

All of the songs are from their first (and only) album simply titled "Blackfield," except Epidemic and Miss You, which I THINK are new songs. They're recording their next album starting in January.

I have officially converted my wife. I was officially converted by Robert Fripp, Timmo and DJ Panurge, so in a way those three fine gentlemen got two new PT enthusiasts for the price of one.

Unfortunately, I chose this thread to post this in because I cannot go to the SF show. :cussing: :lame: :argue2: :1svader: :stick: :shoot: :meteo2:

I hope they tour behind the DVD and LS/SD reissues sooner rather than later, or better yet, sooner AND later!!! I'm taking time off for a very major event the weekend before the PT show, so I'm stuck.

The following are reviews Reviews of Boston Fripp Soundscapes Performance (with special guests Porcupine Tree) that I found online.

NOTE: These are NOT my reviews and I did not see this show.

"Boston's Soundscapes was nice.I will buy the CD if it is ever released. I Think I could learn more from the presentation in a solitary setting. I didn't stay for PT and couldn't even give my ticket away.... I hope Mr.Fripp felt the stop in town was worthwhile. It was a fine pleasure to finally have been able to attend one of his performances . There were some very strong moments in the 45 minute or so set. I however found myself often left with a sense of a desire more was developed within the soundscapes. Doors of possibilities seemed to open only to be left for another and so on. I did feel a bit uncomfortable when i found i was saying to to myself as a picture of Mrs F appeared; I felt as though i'd accidentally stumbled into their bedroom or something... aside from the wishing we could have all lain out on big over stuffed pillows for the set than fit into those little theatre seats was a pain and I hope my incessent shifting about back in row Z didn't irritate the performer as much as the still chattering attendees seemed to for a few moments after he took the stage and sat ready to begin. Many older folks, old hippies were there. Some with their teenaged children which gave the place a nice familial sense.

I think they've remodeled this theatre as it seemed to be about 1/4 the size I recalled from seeing B.B.King there in 1980. I think it would be somewhat more enjoyable to go to a smaller venue where the performer interacts with the gang. Waves, bows and a standing O. Good job."

"Photographic images from the performers life and times were displayed on a large projection screen behind the stage."

"Was it like "Robert Fripp, this is your life!"?

"Please tell us more. Were these projected while the soundscapes were being played?"

"If so, I'll have to start listening with my eyes open."

"Yes, you might say it was "This Is Your Life" like. Pictures were projected during the performance. Some even repeated which I guess is appropriate when the Frippertronics looping of sound is understood. Pictures of family even from the 19th C., friends, bandmates, Eno circa Here Come the Warm Jets with Fripp, English Countryside, a town I imagined might be Bredonborough, the Fripp homestead etc. Overall a fine presentation. I have trouble going into trance in public, I feel its kind of rude and can't entirely shake the fear someone will throw something at my head lol...
As edifying as Soundscapes are I do hope King Crimson will reconfigure and tour as wearing as it is on the members. Perhaps they could charge a little more and plan for more time between gigs allowing for a few days off to enjoy the different localities' ammenities."

"Another account of the Boston performance I read in a blog last night also mentioned the slide show, and an about-to-be a fight:

"...we park and get to Berklee by 8:00 just as Robert starts. He has a wonderful slide show behind him that is so moving if you know Robert. The tetrad, diary entry and schedule from Lebanon made me cry. Then it all went to s[***]. Maybe Roberts assessments of music in modern culture are correct. I know something is wrong. I look down and the guy in the mezzanine is tapping. You f[***]!!!!! the show is ruined for me! Then the guy just right of him turns round to the guy two to the right of me and says "Will you shut the f[***], up I want to listen" to which the other gentlemen retorts and finally says "You want me to smack you in the head"

THIS IS AT A ROBERT FRIPP SPACE MUSIC PERFORMANCE, WHAT THE F[***]!!!! A the guy below goes to stand; up I put my outstretched hands up and plead "Comon guys we don't need this" They sit and are civilized for the rest of the show. For me it is ruined. Robert finished got a great applause and Porcupine Tree comes to the stage."

Sorry - that wasn't written by me! That was from a Blogger in Boston.
I just could not manage any of these shows; I really wanted to see the NYC show on Friday but circumstances did not allow it.

I have not heard that much PT, but there is no way I would go to the show and not see them!

For me, the fact that Robert is opening for them is all I need to know.

By the way, I would only hope that PT fans use the same reasoning in reverse: since PT has invited Robert to warm up, they should pay him the respect that he deserves, and keep their minds and ears open for a different kind of musical experience...

Hugh, when I read the entry I already realised that it wasn't your own hence my comment. I hope you didn't take offence. I was just trying to illustrate that it would be indeed foolish in my opinion to go all the way to a PT concert and just leave after the opening act. Especially when the opening artist is a fan of PT!

Me, I love both KC and PT to bits.

Hugh, my apologies for getting this confused.

Now that I know it is in fact not you I would like to echo DJ's first comment on the individual that left the show after Fripp.... what a fool! That person missed out on an awesome show I am sure!

It is now looking very good for me to go to the PT show in Houston. I could only wish they had Mr. Fripp in tow. That would surely be a two for the price of one show!! They are both so awesome.

Thanks for posting the blogs and thanks in advance for forgiving my error.

Forgiving is what you have
Forgiving is what you see
Forgiving is what you know
Forgiving is all you are

I would even forgive DJ for calling me a fool... ;)

You say there's no reason to conjure

You say I'm a fool a believer
Put your feet on the earth it is green

I've noticed also they've been replacing Deadwing with Hatesong.

As much as I love Hatesong (it works very well live and in fact its my favourite piece on the live XM2 recording), Deadwing is my favourite track off the new record and it's even punchier live than it is on the record (if you can believe that!) and so, although I got to see it in the 1st leg of the tour (they played it as the show opener throughout the tour), I would be very disappointed if they don't play it again.

It's such an excellent live number...

They also need to play Even Less, Shesmovedon & Fadeaway!

Other songs I'd like to see and hear in the DVD but that won't appear (most certainly, I fear...)

- Cloud Zero (Up the Downstair)
- A loooong improvised version of Moonloop (TSMS)
- Sever (Signify)
- Dark Matter (Signify)
- Last Chance to Evacuate Planet Earth (Lightbulb Sun) (My fave PT song at the mo!)
- Russia on Ice (Lightbulb Sun)
- .3 (with an orchestra!) (In Absentia)
- Mellotron Scratch (Deadwing)

I can still dream (& sleep of no dreaming...) ;)

Timmo

I'm with all of those DJ.

I LOVE .3. And Dark Matter.

Even Less is my absolute fave! If we got the full-length version I think I'd die and go to heaven on the spot!

Supposedly they're doing "Fadaway" all the way through at soundchecks, so I think that's more than a definite maybe. Plus it lets Wes do his thang.

I'd add a few more from Stupid Dream: "This is no Rehearsal," "Baby Dream in Cellophane," "A Smart Kid," "Pure Narcotic" and a long, jammy, semi-improvised "Tinto Brass."

JL

I'm for a 3 DVD set. PT can do a six hour show of only top notch stuff. On the albums I've heard, the ratio of great stuff to second tier is astonishingly high, and I haven't even heard Stupid Dream and Lightbulb Sun, which you all say are great from start to finish. You have all been right so far.

By the way, I got Up The Downstair about a week and a half ago. I had posted that I got it when I actually had Sky Moves Sideways. Great album, I just haven't had a lot of time to really dig into it.

My wife raved about disc two, but I haven't heard it yet. She's in the hospital (and DOING GREAT!!), so I won't have time to listen to music for a few days.

Get us that second night set list please Timmo. It's bad enough waiting around for three weeks for my LSAT score. I might as well know what to expect of a PT DVD.

That's funny Sharp! Symbol posted your setlist from the PT Forum!

It's missing the Revenant intro. When did they play that?

The only thing I'm surprised they didn't include was "Fadeaway."

I fervently hope they play "Even Less" at one of the California shows (I saw your post on the PT Forum Sharp...the full-length version would just be WAY too much to hope for anyway). I'm not hopeful though, I think they only played it for the DVD.

SW said they're going to tour again next Spring. As there isn't going to be a new album by then, my guess is that they will be supporting the Stupid Dream/Lightbulb Sun reissues...possibly with some "works in progress."

THEN I will get to hear "Even Less," I expect.

Looks like I'll be doing another four shows in the spring!

Hopefully they'll do a fairly different setlist in LA and Orange County, as I suspect there will be many die-hard fans at both shows.

I'm still kicking myself for not going to LA last time and missing "The Start of Something Beautiful." Ah well, looks like I'll definitely get that on this leg.

They also did "A Smart Kid" in LA. Kick self, kick self, kick self. Hopefully that will be one of the Stupid Dream songs they include next spring. I LOVE that song...the chorus is one of the most gorgeous music they've ever recorded.

"And I will wait for you
Until the sky is blue
And I will wait for you
What else can I do?"

Sharp

Tim

I believe Revanent was the actual intro to the show but not positive. It was not included on the soundboard set list. One thing about PT...they sure like to tour, so I bet you will eventually hear some of those songs that you missed.

Update: Revanent was definitely the intro music for the show.

I went with Timmo last night, JL.

I am new to the whole PT thing. Timmo sent me some compilation CDs that he put together so that when I went to the show I would be familiar with the band. While I thought the songs were very good, they really didn't appeal to me. I mean, I knew I would never go out and buy a PT CD. As I kept telling people at the show, "I like happy music."

Well, I thought the show was great! The live experience far outweighs listening to the band on CD. Steve Wilson really impressed me. And he's very fun to watch. His performance style is very unique and intriguing. I can't remember the name of the other guitar player, but he so often had a smile on his face that it was hard not to like him. And the drummer was frigging awesome!

Anyhow, the band was really, really tight. The sound was mixed really, really well. So, I'm glad to say that much to my surprise, I really, really enjoyed the show!

However, I still have a big grin on my face.

Met more people at the pre-show, then dinner at HOB with the Liquor Locusts (Earl, Lisa, Matt, Patrick, Kathy, Steve (Hill St.). Got in slightly early, which got us a decent spot on the floor. Warmup band slightly less awful than they were in SF, but still pretty lame.

During the intermission, I wormed my way through the crowd and managed to score a primo spot right up against the stage between Steven and Wes. Lovely perspective, but the sound is not as good down front. Still, nice to see them close-up. Steven has very lovely feet (he always performs barefoot).

Slightly less tight than last night, and slightly lower energy. I'm guessing the travel from SF to LA wore them out...still, a pretty amazing show.

OK, I'll give em' B on their presentation last night at the House of Blues Hollyweird... There's still something about PT that jsut doesn't catch me enough to really like them. I think they're rather flat, jsut not enough range of emotion to their music. But overall a good show. 1 thing I can say though is they lost a lot of marks for their chosie of an opening act... This band (very loose intepretation) was horrid. I mean they were scary bad :eeek: It was truly a waste of ear damgage.... Anybody who would hire these guys to open for them is, well of questionable intelligence to be honest. The bands name was Molly's Hairball something or other.... Really bad......

PT is a solid band the drummer wqhatever his name is, is by far the best of the group musically, he was very impressive..... Steve Wilson played far more lead this time around as opppsosed to mostly rythym on the last leg. I disagree with Kurt Steve is at lest a 3 1/2 finger player

Over all a good show, maybe enough to get me to listen to them a bit more and really get the feel for the songs from the different eras of the band....

The same band opened at the Grove last night, but the singer was sick and only sang a tiny bit in the last bit of their 40 minute song. I can see why PT picked these guys as an opener. They had visuals going the whole time. The music they were playing was more like foley (sound effects) to an 8mm home movie....which was interesting to watch. The band could hardly be seen...they were in black light the whole time. I would rather have seen John Wesley do a solo bit.

The boys were freaking spot on! Third of four shows on the Timmical mini-tour, and clearly the best of the three. Heavier, more energy, tighter, best venoo...just mind blowing.

I've since heard from others that did mutiple shows that their last outing at the Grove in June (which is the gig that drove me into foaming-at-the-mouth-PT-fanboyhood) was also a standout on that leg.

The Grove rocks.

I'm not a huge fan of "Strip the Soul," but it RAWKED live. They very much varied the set list from LA and SF...first time I'd heard either "Gravity Eyelids" or "Strip the Soul" on this leg.

Maybe they'll throw in another song from Chicago...I'm still holding out for "Even Less." Other than that and Shesmovedon, I've seen everything else they played on both nights in Chicago.

Maybe they'll sub those two in???

Roland, they would've gotten a much better rating had they not picked that HORRIBLE opening freakshow..... They were called Marjorie Fair... The lead singer looked as though he jsut crawled out of an dumpster, played and sounded like it as well... It suprised me the amps didn't go on strike 15 seconds into the first song.....

Oh my gwad they were sooooooo horible
I wanted to leave
But I'm glad I didn't PT was cool
I had a great time after that awful opening act left
I'd rather see Frip again

Alas, the final night of the Timmical Mini Tour. And the best show of the four. Partially because I think I was a bit tipsier, partially because they freakin' SMOKED.

Plus the world premiere of ".3" (that's DOT three), which had never been performed live. I missed "Hatesong," but I'm glad we got Deadwing. The other big change to the setlist was order...they did "TSOSB" much earlier in the set. For some reason, "Halo" was particularly good that night as well.

I'm jonesin' for more PT shows; I got all teary-eyed on Tuesday night when I wasn't getting ready for a show!

Next tour...6-8 shows.

Mostly the same as San Diego. They got "DOT 3" as well. Traded Deadwing and Mellotron Scratch in SD for Hatesong and Gravity Eyelids in Phoenix.

Tonight's the last show of the tour. BOO HOO!!!

18 different songs, for a total of 56. Not bad. I only missed Even Less and Shesmovedon.

Can't wait until the next one! Apparently they're going to take a year off from touring, but will be doing promos (radio stations, record stores, etc.) for the DVD.

hmmm...but didn't I hear SW say at the Grove show that they would be back in the middle of next year after the live DVD is released?

I think they're going to PROMOTE it, not necessarily tour it.

Someone spoke to the DVD producer in Chicago who said it would be at least six months of post-production.

Wes also mentioned them taking a year off from a full tour.
