Steve Howe, 1994:
"I saw a picture the other day that almost made me cry. It was a photo of Jon, Chris and I singing on stage around 1971-72 and you could see that we were tight, harmonizing and creating together. We were the artistic nucleus of Yes, no matter whether we had Bill and Tony, or Rick and Alan, or Patrick. But I was upset because it renimded me of a time when we were all leaders in Yes."
"Yes was all about that photo, with the three of us working together. And on top of that, we had the best keyboard player and the best drummer in the world."
I read this last night, towards the end of Tim Morse's Yesstories and I just happened to be watching and listening to the last of the KTA DVD: Awaken, Roundabout and Starship Trooper. And later when I read Rick saying about AYAI and CTTE, "there are certain pieces of Yes music that are in control of you, rather that you being in control of it...and Awaken is another...", I said that's it, that's why this band and this music has consumed me for thirty years, to the point that I look back and sure, I heard other music, but nothing possessed me and continues to do so, like Yes music.
And then I thought there's other people like me, here in this little community, from around the world, from different generations for Pete's sake, who know exactly what I'm talking about, and RIGHT THEN, when I had that realization, it was the end of the show, and as the group took their bows, someone in the audience held up a license plate, and seen from behind it said SNAF SEY, and I just shook my head and smiled a whisper, knowing all about the place.....

What a fantastic story.
Thank you Paul, for bringing that one back.
It must be so strange, to be a member of YES, playing those opening chords to 'Awaken' live...
'Awaken' is one of those things which seem to have always been: like the earth beneath your feet and the Rubik's Cube... They always were.
It just took a worthy vector: if another band had received 'Awaken' from the Muse, it wouldn't have been as 'realized'...
YES did justice.
But 'Awaken' always was.
It was hovering over all of us, searching for the right expression, and fell to YES like a thistledown or a universal code...
And AWAKEN was realized with perfection.
Our reason to be here...

When a frontman for a band spews the cliche, "We're in it for the music," I have to laugh, because if they have to say it, it's meaningless. Yes IS the music. Yes IS the emotion. Yes IS the little place between the heart and the mind where all our dreams are reality. They don't need to say it because they get it. We get it. As a result, we are all very lucky to know in our soul what "in it for the music" really means.

GREAT post. And now you know why YES and Steve Howe are joined at the hip. How great is that to have a member of your band so enthusiastic for it's music, that he lives it.

Let us be together, let's pretend that we are free. Let's all be where the angels find us, we all hold the key. Shall we seal the truth of life, shall we light the heavens? We're so good at finding pleasure as to who we are, and how we fit together.
Cool.

Paul - Thanks for resurrecting this thread. Mike made a beautiful post, and I so enjoyed hearing the quote from Steve.
Does anyone here know Mike? I've never seen him around, but it seems that he really understands Yes music.
This was the first post I've read since returning to the site after an long break. Wow! Great to be back and to read those wonderful words from Steve and Mike.

Welcome back YYY. And to a posting that speeks the silent word of bonding.
We are all bound to this site for a number of reasons; concert updates, Yes tradeables, Yes chit chat and other tidbits. But Steve speeks of the keystone that ties together the arch of comradity in the band Yes. I wonder if he new it was contagious? For hundreds of thousands of people around the world have been struck by this infectious keystone in one degree or an other. Most here at Yesfans are terminal. I for one look foward to the long lovenly, enchanting, heart warming coarse of this infliction.
Lost concerts of yesteryear are easily found in your heart when you speek with a fan or listen to a song as if they're playing it again just for you in 1972.
Play your favorite album when you have solitude. And close your eyes and let the simplest time machine [ your mind] bring you back to the sights and sounds of that Keystone locking you in with the members of Yes. Yes Yes Yes

Welcome back YYY ! We had been missing you and your interesting posts.
The odd thing is, there originally were no responses to this post. I didn't find this site for another year.
I guess it needed to age.
