Since last nite I've been trying to become one you...however...given my current and former condition, it's all relative...
I first got into Yes when I was a sophmore in H.S. I could relate to the song "I've Seen All Good People," visualizing the references to the game of Chess and blending them with a relationship, which at the time was very new to me and also VERY gratifying. Ya..she was a real humdinger all-right, but we won't go there.
I was also getting into groups like The Who, Jethro Tull, Jefferson Starship [(which at that point in time was quite politcal and very yippieish) I also had fervent desire for Grace Slick as well.], CTA aka., Chicago, which like J.S. was very political, thought provking, and featured a guitarist by name of Terry Kath who was to me, a Hendrix clone. I remember I was hitchiking back from my girlfriend's pad, yeah, the real humdinger one, and this dude in a VW Beetle picked me up and shared with me this little cigarette he obtained in California. (In the early seventies I lived in little hick town in IN) When I got home I remember lying on my bed listening to the tune "Fancy Colours" on the LP Chicago II. The whole room was spinning along with me still being in the "afterglow" of my encounter earlier in the evening. That was, and still is, one the highpoints of my life. By the way, you might want to LISTEN to the song 25 or 6 to 4 sometime and tell what you feel is the main thrust of it is...All's I can say: Been there...Done That...
Hey, I didn't mean to rattle on like this..At any rate, over the years I've seen Yes 6 times. The last time was a few years ago during their Symphonic tour.
It was outside on Navy Pier here in San Diego. I kinda wish Rick Wakeman was with them then. Now that would be the icing on the cake. No matter, it was still a really fine performance. Their rendition of "Ritual" was out of sight.
Now that I have the time, I expect to be having positive and meaningful social intercourse with ya all now and in the future on a regular basis. Who knows?? Maybe I'll learn something.
