If you place the tsongas disc 2 in your player, select sound options, then dolby 5.1 then hit the following buttons:
RW,RW,RW,FF,FF,RW,pause,RW,RW

you get a cute soundbite from Steve Howe that says "Rabin, Sherwood. Why can't these guys leave me alone!"

There are apparently others on the disc.

Yeah, true, but when Yes releases generally can't even get the track names spelled right or produce DVD's with quality sound do you think they could/would go to the trouble to embed easter eggs in them?

Sorry, just having a little joke there at the end of a very long and wet day.

I think the joke is that anyone could seriously let 2 misspelt titles detract from that wonderful DVD.
And as for the sound; - how come so many of us are completely satisfied with the sound quality? Is the whinging ever going to end?
If some need to belly-ache about the quality of this superb production, they have really deprived themselves of the joy of a magnificent concert film. Now I know I got some ill-considered abuse the last time I dared to defend the Tsongas DVD, but that was before the US release. If I'm to be 'slagged' for my opinion this time, hopefully, some brave US citizens(and real YES-fans) will come to my defence.
Tsongas is a masterpiece! And I love it!

Good for you. However:

1. My initial copy had poor sound. The lips weren't sync'd with the sound in places. Fact.

2. The performance was in my opinion not as sparkling as the ones I saw. Ritual especially was pedestrian at best.

3. It IS unprofessional to release DVD's with typo errors on the screen and reflects badly on the band.

I don't think it's whinging to suggest that the production/record company gets its act together before releasing a product with the Yes name on it expecting people to pay good money for it. Once again, see Rush in Rio or Led Zeppelin's 'DVD' for how it should be done and to the abysmal Yesspeak for how not to do it. Look at Symphonic or Yes Acoustic to see how well it can be done for Yes on occasion. The simple truth is that Yes fans have been deprived of real quality DVD product over the years and we're grateful for any visual crumbs sent our way. Unfortunately, they're often just not good enough.

I may have got the wrong end of the stick here, but it looks like you're implying that anyone who dares criticise the band or some of their recent shoddy product is not a fan. True fans see both the good and the bad and there isn't a band on the planet, now or before, that hasn't had its creative ups and downs.

Well-said, Mr. Backer. It's irritating how sometimes criticism of Yes is met with the ole "and you call yourself a fan" attitude. Nothing wrong with high expectations, is there?

But seeing where you're based in the world should that be 'downs and ups' ?

As far as the version of Ritual, You cant bring the camra crew to every show. so you take what you get. I remember I was at the KISS show when they filmed for the comady Detroit Rock City and the show was less then I expected, there just nothing you can do about it. Like every thing eals in life take it for what it is.

.......And that's a fair point. However, whilst you can't bring a camera crew to every show you could bring them to more than one and see what develops. If you don't you're either lucky (like Rush in Rio) or unlucky (like Yes).

Nothing can compare to the crab nebula stage set.....Although I loved the last tour and I like the dvd, this stage set was lacking a few things. It would have been nice to have tons of dry ice and a killer laser show to go with the roger dean stage set. The last time I was in brighton england I got a rare chance to visit roger at his home. He showed me a photo of the crab nebula stage set....wow. He told me that much of it was in a warehouse not far from his home and if he was not so busy he would show me some of it. Too bad he was busy that day.I think some of it was bought or auctioned off recently. Anyway, we had tea and cookies and he was a complete gentleman. He told me a funny story about flying to japan with yes when he was on tour with them...I won't get into that now...oh well. Anyway, songs from tsongas is good. It's amazing to see steve use his wammy bar and rick is killer on the moog. I like the version of rituals from the symphonic tour better than this one; actually I like tom brislin as a keybord player a lot.
One thing's for sure, it saddens me to see alan without his full octave of crotales. I think he might have a single mounted one but i'm not sure. Turn of the century was crying for them as well as many other songs. And boy oh boy it took a long time for chris to bust out the rickenbocker.
Maybe someday I will tell the whole story of my roger dean visit -- it is a very personal and magical moment in my life. His kindness was overwelming and his love for his fans and yes fans was amazing. It was nice to see him being a part of the last yes tour. Roger dean....I love the man.

Sure the general stage set was OK but those timpani style drums on Alans kit :drummer: :jaw1:

They were ludicrous live and even worse on the DVD. A totally cringe worthy exercise which actually makes me, a 33 year long fan, a little ashamed to show this film to non believers!
Has Dean never seen Spinal Tap?
Crap nebula more like... (for the drums)

One thing about the 1976 crab nebula stage set/tour is that alan white was playing real timpani's as well as real tuned percussion and I think two sets of crotales and a real gong at that time.Patrick was using real keybords that had tubes in them and needed to be warmed up before the show. Even jon had his full size harp with him on the amazing crab nebula tour.
Durring the creation of the 1976 crab nebula tour,On the walls of roger dean's studio were the words:white shock, electric blue, intangible tecnology, beams, biological engineering, hydrostatic.
In roger dean's book magnetic storm there are some amazing photo's of the nebula tour.
Philly...I must admit the timpani drums you are referring to from the last tour are a bit silly, but I must admit I love to look at them anyways.IT help's to be 4:20 (baked) to look at them. Tea time for me philly.....take care.....

Patrick drummed Topo4 in 1975 and the tympani are pitched- notice how Chris uses them in Tsongas; they played Topo 1 for us instead. Turn of the Century is almost my favourite Yessong. It needs all the resources possible.
Alan's SuperMario sciencefiction drums last year sounded great live; just like the huge rib-moving synth drums 90125 tour near start.
Wish I'd seen 1976 CrabNeb tour. It was great to see the set 1975 and to have all of them drumming.
How big was Alan's set for Union tour? Bruford blew us away in Vancouver.
As usual.

Sorry guys, was confusing the last tour with 76 (only 29 years out, but I am an old bugger)
But the 2004 drums are still daft!

:)

I'm going to have to side with the satisfied customers. I see nothing wrong with the sound quality. Some people are just perfectionists and prefer to knock something rather than appreciate it.

And as for taking the trouble: my least favorite album DOES have some cool sounds embedded at the very end -- Open Your Eyes. If you let the final track play you have some sound bites there after about 10 minutes of silence; so yea, they WOULD think of embedding stuff...
