Dear Yes Fans
I was just reading the keboardest's thread and I thought whoa thes guys have a lot of tallent and a lot of keyboards. Then I heard the only 2 tribute ablums for yes (more like by yes, Peter Steve and Patrick are on Tales from Yesterdays and Rick and adam are on the tribute to yes) and it made me want to literally burn the cds with a lighter ;). So i though yes has supplied us with great music for 30+ years why not we give somthing back. So here is what I propose for those of you brave enough come up with tracks that either you or you band would like to do if you have mp3's already send them to me Danny10284@aol.com. Of course i will also be putting down my guitar enterpatations of Mood For a Day, Excerts From Tales of A Topographic Ocean, and the guitar parts to And You And I as well as others. I'm not going to be the producer of the thing just a player so if you keyboardest drummers bassists and singers have time please help out

I'm wrapped up in several music projects at the moment....but, it does sound as if that would be fun.

Gee, I can play Mood For A Day on the piano...does that count????!!!! LOL!!

Been a long time since I played any "epic" Yes-related stuff...I mean, like 15 years or more...I once had most of Six Wives mastered, as well as most of Moraz's Children's Concerto and all of Blue Brains....now, I only dabble with bits n pieces here n there, as I've moved on to other stuff as necessity dictated...

More feasible for me, though it may not satisfy the angle you wish to achieve, would be Yesfans contributing their OWN compositions, rather than interpreting Yes songs....whaddya think?

AS i said before i'm not the producer or manager of this I am just part of it though and I think that maybe a little bit of both might be good. though from what i read for every 1 guitarest there are 4 keyboardests (not that i mind but none of you live even relativly close to me what is that all about esspecially since i'm trying to create a prog cover / orignal prog music band right now under the working title of Cenima) either way i'm in especially since this can be fun for the yes fan musicans who know maybe one of us can fill rick's spot ;) well anyway I'm open to suggestions about this a long as it remains prog and either yes covers or Yes-influenced I'm happy

Howdy, this sounds fun, but trying to find others to make it happen will be hard. Although the last 10 years was spent playing keyboards in a Grateful Dead band, my first and main instrument is bass. I also studied drums in college and played in several bands in the 80's as a drummer. I love changing time signatures.

Still trying to find other musicians is hard.

This looks like it would be fun. I'd like to see some original stuff.
I have a couple of Adats and a small recording studio.
Most of this could be done over the internet. I use Cakewalk and bundle files. I could put new compositions on my humble web page and we could pull from there, then as you get some tracks done you could repost them back to the site and pull some more. As long as we can agree on a cakewalk format I could sync the best tracks and do the mix, re-issue it to the site and we can hash it out some more. The other alternative is to get adats and trade tapes. I think we could make it work or at least have some fun trying.
What do you think?
I have some originals at my web site but they arn't really prog enough. I'll see what I can do to post some more parts of pieces I've been woorking on.

My web page is at www.ncws.com/raiched

I play all the instriments on these songs and did it all through a sound blaster live card and my computer.
It was a great experiment and I really like some of the songs still. Perhaps we can cut a few up and do them with different musicians.

I think this would be fun.:band:

Cheers,

I just got Cakewalk, starting to learn what I can do with it. I wonder if we could actually make songs from our own homes. Different YesFans adding different parts?

I think we could do some of that....

I was originally thinking just covers but maybe covers and originals but the reason why this was started was as far as I’m concerned there has not been a decent Yes Tribute album. So Dan can you play yes (I myself now can play all of the yes album and fragile except for Rick’s “solo” piece, as well as And you and I all of 90125 and most of Big generator I am now working on talk Keys 1 & 2 and Magnification. I move around a lot on the yes time line. It all depends upon my mode and what I want to learn.) So if you can play some classic yes keyboard lines than alright if you can do prog originals again alright either way I’m happy as long as I can be part of the playing writing and recording in some way I’m happy.

So we got a guitarest and a drummer who can play yes how about a keyboardest?

Well, I am certainly a bass player of Yes (Tull, Gentle Giant, etc). I can also do a majority of the vocals, believe it or not. There are many keyboard parts I can also play (I figured out the sound and correct notes for the opening Khatru Mellotron part!!)

Where are the players in Seattle? I'm tempted to move to wherever you all are!

I love Chris' harmonies. I am a pretty good keyboardist as well, but I have never tried any YES. I spent 9 years in a Dead cover band as the keyboardist.

I would love to move to Seattle, but I have a great job here, it would have to be something really cool. I lived in Stellacomm back in the late 80's and I have several friends in Issaquah (sp?)

Even if we just got together somewhere for a weekend to jam that would be so cool.

I'm right now starting a pink floyd tribute band in ct (already have a 5 man line-up even though the bassist is a crimson fan and will not go near any thing with yes on it so why i'm working with him i don't know but anyways) I agree gt we should at least jam, I love playing And you and I on my new 12 string ovation. well hopfully my two yes project this and my former band cenima aren't dead in the water.

I started playing guitar in a band that did a lot of Emerson Lake and Palmer, some WHO , Doors, Beatles and Moody Blues.
Then out of the blue one day EGGY our keyboardest said" DOES ANYONE KNOW ANY YES? " I played a solo Mood for a Day then was joined in Your Move by Eggy and our short lived drumer Denis. The only other song we learned before we broke up was Starrship Trooper.
This tribute sounds great . I had to stop playing a few years back because my hands have gone bad. But I may get my son to play and I can probably still do Jon Andersons vocals. Would love to do Soon but all our guitars only have 22 frets except for my 68 fender mustang with 23 frets. But my son knows Steve Howe's Close to the edge, Heart of the Sunrise and mood for a day.
We'll work on this prodject and maybe have something you can work with.

I am totally new here, but I have been reading the threads on this subject of recording a yes tribute project. I am a bass player and a longtime Yes and Chris Squire fan. I perform in a local blues band, and record in a progressive rock project with a friend of mine. For some examples of my playing- Check out:

www.mp3.com/refractor

and my solo site:

www.mp3.com/landmusic

I would be willing to contribute to some kind of recording over the internet. I could send mp3's and recieve mp3's of tracks and put them in my computer to add a bass track or whatever.. My computer is a cd quality multi-track studio... It works great. I play a couple different basses but for any Yes tribute track I will use and only use a Rickenbacker 4001. I know some yes and would (learn what I could) on Yes material I have never tried to learn, but only listen to... and all parties agreed to do the selected track of intrest.

I'll try this again...

Hey, Rabin 105 - I'm in Canton, CT, but grew up in Ridgefield. I play guitar too. I wouldn't mind playing or getting together to jam...if I can find the time...

We'll I've been booted as moderator! :stick::crybby:

It's been fun. I hope the next guy can do better.
I'm pulling my offer to host MP3's and have stopped any projects I had going with the yesfans group. I probably won't be able to answer any questions anymore as well but I'm sure the new moderator will be a wealth of knowledge and have more time to devote to administating this cool group.
Good luck with your projects, mine is doing very well.
Cheers,

Daniel

I have a question for one of you musician/engineer types...un-fortuneately this isn't related directly to your post, but I figured one of you guys might know the answer... How does one get a music track off of a DVD and into ones computer, say into MP3 format. I want to get some tracks off the Yes Symphonic DVD onto my system (that's how I listen to my music these days). Any ideas ?

By the way, cool post. I've been enjoying some of these tribute albums lately. Shadow gallery's Release, Release is really good. I can't wait to here Spocks beard version of SSOTS.

Move to South Florida (Palm Beach/Broward County area) and you're in! Our current bass player lacks full commitment.

Hey all, to start with I'm using a Roland digital 8 and/or various computer recording software if needed. As for the musical end I started a Yes tribute many years ago. We did CTTE in it's entirety a while back and are looking to do it again soon. yourmovetheband.com
As for the submittal, I could do Fish for ya.

DVD decrypter. Problem is the software may be hard to find (as it's illegal). If you PM me I may be able to further help you.

Hmmm. I'm in Boston...not that far. What are your bandmates (bass excluded) about?
It would be fun to jam some Yes stuff my band isn't already covering.
