Maybe I'm too predictable, but I voted for Roundabout and LDR. Both great songs that remind me of my youth. I really like the jerky rhythm of LDR.

Must....hear....South.....Side.....of.....Sky....! Nearly passed out when I heard it live the first time a few summers ago. I really like the accoustic version as well, but I kinda wish they had kept in the "la-la-las" !!!

I saw YES premeire the "Fragile" album at 'The Whisky A'Go Go' in L.A.
They also introduced their 'new' keyboardist . . Mr. Rick Wakeman.
"HotS" is a true YES classic with a very solid list of tunes on this offering.

You know this album has such unique features with every member given a chance to shine. However, my favorite are HOTS and SSotS. Not that LDR and Roundabout are not great songs too but they have been played so much on radio and live that I tend to shy away from them. SSotS is just so intense and demanding on the listener. I wish I could have heard it live.

I'm not so much of a HoTS fan. Probably Roundabout and SSoTS area a dead heat. The album version is still my favorite of Roundabout.

"HotS" is a true YES classic with a very solid list of tunes on this offering.Wow, you're OLD!

Actually I got into an argument with a kid on the Porcupine Tree site because I dissed "The Wall" and he said something like "It's really trendy to diss "The Wall" now.

I came back with "I've been dissing "The Wall" since 1979 when it came out.

He was like "Dude! You're really OLD!"

As if to say "What the hell are you doing on the PT site?"

As it turns out, he's 15.

Anyway, back to topic.

I wanted to see the Fragile Tour at the McCarter Theater in Princeton, NJ. My brother and his friends got to go, but my parents thought I was too young (I was 9 or 10). I didn't eat for two days, but they still didn't let me go.

This is why I have a therapist!!!

My faves, in order:

SSotS
HOTS
LDR
The Fish (but I REALLY like the Yessongs version).

HOTS and SSotS definitely stand out above the others....though I love the whole album. It's funny....I can't hear We Have Heaven in my head anymore, I immediately interject Can I from The Ladder. Even when I play it...I still hear Can I. I'm convinced there's no cure for this! It's ok though, it's a good thing. ;)

I think We Have Heaven has a really unique sound. It's my fav. I like all the others, but when I think of Fragile, WHH is the first song that comes to mind.

5% is one of my faves too... but I voted so fast I didn't read we could vote more than once... I vote for every track on this -- the album is so seamless and cohesive.

South Side was my vote instantly.

Even though Iīve heard it a thousand times it has to be Roundabout - it didnīt become a hit for nothing. Amazing track. South Side is a close contender (and LongDistance was my first love...).

South Side of the Sky shows the combined talents of this band. I remember when I wanted to show off the sound quality of my stereo, I would play this track to knock the socks off whoever I was trying to impress. The virtuosity of Steve's guitar work, the vocals by Jon and Chris, the bridge and Rick's classic piano lines. All tolled, the perfect Yes track.

they played whh+ssots together in sydney 2003 and for me that was the highlight!seeing jon+chris "rock like status quo" during the duel, the moment i heard "tell the moon..." hairs on neck stood to regulation...steve is sharp+gyrating, harmony vocals are amazing, rick's piano interlude sublime+not to mention bill's stuttering intro!!!(on the record),i believe a young turk by the name of alan white plays with them now!

Pedro Skychaser's thoughts about SSOTS are similar to my own.
I too saw them in Sydney '03 but not before they played my home town the night before.
A number of things were memorable. - These two shows were my first ever. We in Australia had been deprived for 30 years of a YES show. They then delayed an agonising 6 months due to Jon's back injury, which made the suspense and anticipation all the greater.
But then, the stand-out song for me (apart from Awaken: - cause that's expected) on both nights was SSOTS. For some strange reason the song never made much of an impression on me when listening to it on the old vinyl. It was those stunning live performances which catapulted that song into my all-time fav's list.
I just want to see them perform it live in Australia one more time. Please!!!
Am I asking too much?

South side of the Sky! The song is one of the best in the catalog.

The Fish- Chris doing all the bass work. The studio version is such a sonic treat!

How to pick one song on such a brilliant album. I went with 'South Side Of The Sky'

This album is such a total vibe....it just flows all together. I was enamored with Roundabout which is why I first bought it back in the day of my new surging interest in Yes (1984 _ i am a 90125 period convert). This was my most satisfying first listen to a Yes album ever (Close to the Edge being a very ah, *close* second), I was hopelessly converted to the "Fragile 5" as the best Yes lineup ever for a long time. Hard to pick one...

But, I'll say Heart of the Sunrise because I think that if you are looking for everything that Yes was or is, or reaches for musically, that is it - in a nice tidy 10 minute track.

South Side Of The Sky is my choice. The middle section is my favourite part of the song, too - lovely piano by Rick and Bill's jazzy drumming perfectly fits the mood. When the vocal interplay start in, I always feel as though I should be singing right along. Darned if I don't, anyway!

You know, you're absolutely right, Phil. When Rick pounces on THAT CHORD so hard I think the floor of my SUV is gonna fall off and hit the pavement, I get goosebumps. One of the best recorded Yes moments of their entire career, IMHO. There's a simplicity to that recorded space that is unlike anything Yes tried before - and it works like magic.

And I really think of SSOTS as being connected to We Have Heaven, because of that wonderful door slam. It's almost like a portal to a frozen wasteland, and it sets the song up beautifully.

Nah, I take it all back. Cans and BramStoker'sDracula is the better film...

But South Side Of The Sky gets my vote here...

The whole album is great, but my two favorites are Roundabout and Heart of the Sunrise, and right behind them would be Long Distance Runaround and South Side of the Sky, so I voted for all four of them.

Not that LDR and Roundabout are not great songs too but they have been played so much on radio and live that I tend to shy away from them.

Interesting. I don't recall ever hearing Long Distance Runaround on the radio myself, but maybe different areas play different things (or maybe you're referring to a previous era). Where I'm at, if Yes gets played now, it's usually Owner of a Lonely Heart, sometimes I've Seen All Good People, and occasionally (though rarely) Roundabout. That's pretty much it (although I remember when Love Will Find a Way also got a lot of radio play).

HOTS is one of those all defining songs for the band that contains elements of everything that Yes does. All in perfect measure and mix. It's very hard to top. Certainly within the same album. A career defining performance from Chris Squire, on the same album as "the Fish", mind you.

Well, The Fish definitely got my vote, as well as We Have Heaven, South Side of the Sky, Mood for a Day and HOTS...Considering that this one's my all-time favorite Yes albums, it's nearly all of it...

I had to ponder on two songs..... SSOTS and HOTS, with LDR/The Fish running a close third (LDR... was the first tune I learned from YES).
Even though SSOTS seems like a thread favorite, I had to choose HOTS. Reason being, I learned both songs on bass. SSOTS was relatively easy to learn, but HOTS was a painstaking labor of love, Squire's ability to weave countermedley into an already sonically intense piece of music, still blows me away to this day. When I play HOTS, deep in my mind I always say.... "here's to you CS!!!! I'm just playing it, you wrote it!!!...... you're the greatest bassplayer ever!!!!!"

Mood For A Day is such a stunning guitar piece that I had to pick it. I don't think anyone has written a nicer guitar solo on a rock album. My second choice would be Heart of the Sunrise. I think some of the repetitive riffs are unecessary but the singing is incredible. Still, I would not rank this unique album with CTTE, Topographic Oceans or Relayer. It is much too simplistic.

This album grew on me a huge amount to the point I may change my initial review of it on Prog Archives (I write reviews as Salmacis over there...) to a 5 star. It flows wonderfully, but the clear standout to me is 'Heart Of The Sunrise'. It has one of the most thrillingly intense introductions ever and one of Jon's best vocals.

South Side Of The Sky, HotS, Long Distance Runaround.
Played last one and most of Roundabout in medley in 70s in my band, kind of tired of the latter but LDR is perfect always.

-could NOT resist the new iconLOL ( it's a 'Short-distance Runaround' )

Since the Rhino remaster...

America!

How great it sounds there at the end of the album, like it was always supposed to be there.

Many, many years ago(who else remembers this?lol)it seemed to me that America should've been on this album. Why wasn't it?!lol...

Had to go get Yesterdays just to hear it.Not that that was a bad thing...

But it would turn up on the radio, and unless you had that Age Of Atlantic sampler, you just couldn't hear it any other way!And I/we so needed that Steve Howe tour de force, such a great song...
