The shows are coming...We've been brainstorming, wishing and going on and on and on and on and on about what Yes might play on the 2002 tour. If I had a prize to offer I would, but just for the FUN of it, let's all list a dozen songs as a prediction of what they will play this time. Wonder if anyone will come close or succeed in predicting every song? Once they've done the first show we'll see who really knows Yes. Probably not me.....
Here goes mine....
01 Siberian Khatru
02 Magnification
03 Heart Of The Sunrise
04 And You And I
05 Mind Drive
06 Close To The Edge
07 On The Silent Wings Of Freedom
08 Roundabout
09 Yours Is No Disgrace
10 Awaken
11 I've Seen All Good People
12 Starship Trooper (encore)
I played it safe here. No SOUND CHASER, SOUTH SIDE or TO BE OVER...The above is pretty much what I expect. SILENT WINGS is pushing it, but I got a feeling they just might go there....
and YesFans who attend the Seattle show should report back so that we can know who won ...

And it very well maybe a contest, but I was waiting until closer to the start of the tour.
Also, I'm not sure I want to know the setlist before I see them the beginning of August in Camden, NJ.
Sacrifice the suspense, for the good of the tribe!
I will say this: speculation over the set list appears to be on the minds of a great many fans, given the number of threads that are mentioning it!
I'll bet a contest like that would have more participants than any we've had so far!

With Rick in the loop, they probably will try to play several of the songs he worked on. But, since they will probably structure the playlist to make another DVD, I think that the DVD cuts will be a little different than those on Live in Amsterdam and House of Blues. I think they will play a few Magnification songs, and this might just give Rick the creative challenge he was talking about in playing the songs he did not help create.
Here are my picks for the songs that will be on the next DVD:
1. Roundabout (full version, Steve on accoustic) (keep everyone in suspense about the encore)
2. Mind Drive (Rick loves this tune and Keys 2)
3. Heart of the Sunrise
4. The Revealing Science of God
5. Dreamtime (Rick's first major creative challenge)
6. Steve and Jon: Soft as a Dove & Leaves of Green
7. We Agree
8. Siberian Khatru (keep us guessing about meaning of Khatru)
9. Awaken (makes the cut because of Rick)
10. Time is Time (keep the controversy brewing)
Encore
11. Parallels (give Chris a chance to flex)
12. Spirit of Survival
They also will play Yours is No Disgrace, And You and I, and I've Seen All Good People just to prevent a riot of the mad Troopers. I also predict that they will play New Languages and Owner to appease some of their newer fans. New Languages might make the DVD.

I hope I am very wrong, but I'm afraid that there will not be any magnification songs in the set this time. Why? Because they haven't done such a thing in a long time.
Since BG they only played Rhythm Of Love up to the OYE tour (with the exeption of Keys). That was the last song that was repeated during the next tour(s). None other BG song during Union, no Union song during Talk, no Talk song during OYE, no OYE song during The Ladder and no Ladder song during Symphonic. (I have to admit that Children of Light was played during OYE, but their was no Keys tour, so that doesn't count for me). I hear you question that Mag is a high quality album that will go on for a long time, but the same goes for The Ladder and Keys. And they haven't been done either.
I know that there are circumstances all the time that prefent them from playing songs from the album before the last one. And ofcourse the constant line-up changes of the last 10-15 years will have a part in that, but there now again is a line up change in some way. And although Wakeman says that he thinks Mag is a great album and won't make a point of playing songs he didn't wrote by himself, I still have very little faith in hearing these tunes live again. There is a pattern and I don't think it will be broken...
And I also don't expect no Arriving UFO, Silent Wings Of Freedom or especially Release, Release. I have some rare live versions of em and totally understand why they have been played only a few times during that tour. The high notes are just too high for Jon. And that was 25 years ago. I don't think that he could make it nowadays. Alas.
But nonetheless, I expect to have a great time with Wakeman in the band again. There is still so much beautiful music left for them to play and even if we only get songs like Close To The Edge, Awaken, Heart Of The Sunrise, Revealing Science, Wonderous Stories, Don't Kill The Whale (yes, it's been a long time since we heard that one), Roundabout, And You And I etc. it would still be great.
... I guess "Endless Dream" would be too much to hope for ...

When YesWorld reports, "Yes will present a concert experience featuring the band’s epic masterpieces as well as classic Yes tunes" , my first reaction is to moan. Certainly anything listed as "Classic" would be prior to 90125. More likely, they'd be prior to RELAYER - which means no GOING FOR THE ONE or TORMATO tracks. (I'm hoping I'm wrong on this last point.)
As for "epic masterpieces", does "masterpieces" imply that they've been played a lot and have, therefore, earned the title from columnists doing album and concert reviews or is it possible they're just referring to the masterful way Yes writes longer songs? If the later proves true, "Mind Drive" might actually qualify as an "epic masterpiece."
I can guarantee that you'll hear "And You and I", "Roundabout", "Heart of the Sunrise", "Long Distance Runaround", blah blah blah blah blah.
Will we hear what we really want to hear? Many on our wish list, like "On the Silent Wings of Freedom", "Mind Drive", "Parallels" and such, were written with Rick in the band and, therefore, might stand a good chance of surfacing. Others, like "New Language", "Spirit Of Survival", "Can You Imagine" and the like, were written without him - but he's indicated that wouldn't say, "No" to that type of stuff. They might appear as well - except that they're not "Classics".
Lastly, a concert that "features" a group or category of songs is not necessarily restricted to it. It just "specializes" in it. My doubts, therefore, could be groundless. I hope so!
Somebody who's got the band’s ear needs to do some serious hinting if we're to get anything other than the Usual Suspects. A few pointed questions would be nice to give us a more educated guess than what we’ve got now.

They will definitely play a few tunes from Mag, just to experiment with Wakeman putting his stamp on the orchestra parts.......They can play Roundabout, CTTE, And You and I and ISAGP in a coma, so they'll play those just to cut down on the amount of time needed to practice for this tour.....
While we're on the subject of predictions, I don't think this tour will sell as well as the last tour......I just think Yes has toured a lot without having any perceptible album sales, so I think we're going to see a drop-off in ticket sales.
I also believe the uniqueness of seeing them with the orchestra helped pump up tour sales last time.....
Here it goes....
1....Roundabout
2....Magnification
3....Give Love Each Day
4....Can You Imagine
5.....Close to the Edge
6.....Long Distance Runaround
7.....Heart of the Sunrise
8.....Wondrous Stories
9......Turn of the Century
10.....On the Silent Wings of Freedom
11.....Ritual
Encore

I think having Wakeman in the line up (and No Trevor and No Billy and No Igor and No Tom) will appeal to a lot of "classic Yes" fans that haven't shown up in a while.
Personally, I hope they sell out every venue. That will charge them up for a new album. If they don't have a successful tour, what incentive will Rick have for sticking around?

Epics and classic Yes stuff.....Hmmm....many are one in the same aren't they? here's my predictions....
1. Yours is no disgrace
2. magnification
3. Heart of the sunrise
4. Long Distance Runaround >
5. The fish
6. Steve solo>
7. Turn of the Century
8. And You and I
9. MindDrive
10. In the Presence of
11. Rick solo>
12. Awaken
encores: Starship Trooper
abridged Roundabout
As much as we are all wishing for some mind blowing surprises
I have a feeling that we won't be getting them.
I am also concerned about the change of venues.....
I hope that the news of Rick's return generates some buzz, but
I have a feeling that it may not translate into ticket sales at many of the larger sheds.....I personally have really enjoyed the local venue.....FleetBoston Pavillion......it was a great setting for the band....although sometimes the sound did leave a bit to be desired. The Tweeter center is actually alot closer to my home, but I think it may be hard for them to sell out the almost 19,000 seat (with lawn) venue. I am sure that the boys will play their hearts out regardless....but I hope that less than capacity crowds won't put a damper on future Yes tours or albums.

after hearing they would be playing Konocti I promptly went out to my softball game and broke a bone in my foot! Well, I have 2 1/2 months to get it ready for dancing and partying at Konocti. :-)

I was wondering what you guys mean with big or small venues. I was at the gig that will be released on DVD. It was held in the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam. The venue has aprox. 4000 seats and was sold out two nights in a row, which ofcourse means about 8000 visitors. When you compare that to for instants the JFK gig, 1976 in Philadelpia where there were 100.000 visitors, HMH is a very, very small venue. But to me it was realy satisfying. So when are you people afraid of lesser ticket sales, and therefor smaller venues?

Actually, we’d all like to see "success" for the band in the form of sold-out houses, but we've really enjoyed the last few years in smaller venues. If the tickets sales really are high, they’ll wind up in places like the Chronicle (Concord) Pavilion in California which seats, what, 15,000? That sort of experience isn't as fun to participate in as Matthijs' account of a 4,000-seat setting.
Smaller is better for those in the audience. Larger is better for the band (if it fills up.) I'm curious to see on Monday, what other venues make it to the list.

To clarify what I was taking about with venue size....
I think a 4000 seat venue is ideal...but perhaps a bit small if Yes were to play theatres or venues of that size for a whole tour.
I mentioned the FleetBoston pavillion for example because it has been Yes's summer home since the OYE second leg tour.
I am always reminded of a poster I saw when I was a kid.
it had a stack of elephants on top of what looked like (and naturally so) a very unhappy camper at the bottom of the pile, and underneath the caption read..."more is not always better."
I suppose financially the slightly larger venues work better for the band because it means a bit more money. I am not an expert in the contracts of bands like Yes when they play venues like the many scattered tweeter sheds around....but don't they get paid a flat fee?.....and it is not nessesarily based on individual ticket sales? In other words...the promoter would pay a price to them and then collect Ticket sales and concessions and sometimes a percentage of T-shirt and the like sales, and that would cover (and hopefully exceed for the promoter) what he initially put down for the band?
I am not sure if bigger means better for the band in the sense of conncecting with an audience.....it's hard to know where the line is drawn, but when events get too large it is often more about the event than the actual music going on...onstage.
Obviously this is true when they cram as many people as possible into a football stadium and try to pass it off as a musical experience. Surely they jest.
I remember empty seats at the FleetBoston pavillion and similar reports from different venues of medium size on the last few tours
So my concern came from wondering if the Wakeman factor would generate enough buzz to bring in even more people to see the band in larger venues.

If Rick wants to put his stamp on something, what better choice is there than Magnification—an album with no keyboards? Go nuts, Rick!
Firebird
Siberean
Heart of the Sunrise
Magnification
And You And I
Dreamtime
Going for the One
In the Pressence of
Awaken
Yours is no Disgrace

As much as I love Yes......I think the set list list isn`t going for the one...oops mind fart....I think the set list isn`t going to be very varied, meaning nothing from albums Wakeman wasn`t on.Personally I have seen the band with and without Wakeman and I have to tell you....I think he is somewhat overrated. I mean he is a great keyboard player but Moratz,Igor, and Tom Brislin were just as good as he was (IMO) and actually played Wakemans contributions.Yo Rick....chill with the ego bit and play someone`s else keyboard parts. The only song I want to hear that I have never heard live is "South Side Of The Sky". I read somewhere that when they do this song in sound checks,Jons vocal cords really take a beating.

I think what we hear and see depends on whether they bring the orchestra along. They could do some cuts from Magnification. But will Rick agree to go along with it?I hope they do Spirit of Survival,Give Love Each Day and Dreamtime.I have a feeling Rick will go to CTTE as their first epic. They may open with YIND or Perpetual Change.Heart of the Sunrise will be there and And You And I.If the orchestra is present then they will choose AWAKEN as the second epic.If not they may go with RSOG or Ritual. The encore set could be Spirit of Survival going into Roundabout. But this is more a wish list.It may pan out though... JOE
I think we'll se a simialiar setlist to Keys. They will play Awaken and RSOG. I'm curious as to what MAG. stuff they'll play with no orchestra.
