This has been done before but not in a way to keep track of the scores - hopefully this will overcome that by allowing you to choose one score per album.
You can base your evaluation on any version of the album.
I'll give the CD 8
but the DVD 10+

Could have been a 10 for me except for the fact that the night they recorded it Tony Levin was ill and replaced by Jeff Berlin. Listen to ST,the bass lines have no fell.imho.

Gave it a 9. Bass is way too low in the mix. Yes, there is no Chris, but that does not mean there should be barely any bass. HOTS is a awful on this, because of the lack of bass. It is an excellent recording though of the ABWH material. CTTE isn't bad as well. Bruford did pretty well on it, considering he hadn't played it live ever.

But it makes me miss Chris. (sigh!)

Although I enjoy this album it's not my favorite live album nor is it as good as the studio ABWH album. I gave it an 8.

Hmm, I'd give it a 6 with Howe's thin sounding guitar (really, his tone is awful), out of tune backing vocals, and Jon's space hippy clothes.
I do like the stage setup, and Wakeman's playing- he actually seems to be having a good time. Jeff Berlin was on too much of a leash...he is a huge jazz monster of a player, and was barely heard in the mix. Apparently he said he had about 24 hours to learn the parts and perform live with them.
I never bothered with it. Fortunately, I have the Stockholm show, which I got here on YesFans in the Trading Room.
I just couldn't be bothered with picking up a live album from that tour that did not have Tony on it.

I gave it a zero.
Bruford's robotic, monotonic, unemotional machine-gun style playing is annoying and gave me a headache. Listen to how he destroyed the end of AYAI. I never want to hear him in Yes again.
And Berlin's bass parts are rather poor. I missed Chris.
I missed Chris's vocals, too.
I guess it's just not Yes without Chris.
I didn't like how the first hour of the show was broken into solo spots. Some of the stuff they did together was allright.
Steve was weak as well. He hadn't relearned how to play guitar yet.
Haven't seen the vid. There's a chance I'll like it even though the audio is disappointing.
I love Yes and ABWH and all the guys, I just think this is a bad recording of a bad performance.

I truely love what was done with the medley "Time And A Word / Owner Of A Lonely Heart / Teakbois". This one made it to my second "greatest hits" cd.

I don't think that's anything you'll have to be concerned about, Store, since Bill most likely will never be in Yes again, lol. For the record, he has hung up the electric drums for the past few Earthworks albums, and with it that style of playing that you have described.
I see you're from Michigan, wherebouts? I'm from the Detroit suburban area.
Well, despite Bill's drumming sound and style on this album (which bothers me in parts as well - most notably his drum solo) and the absence of Chris, I still think AEOYMP still has, imo, one of the most faithful official live recordings of Close To The Edge. The ABWH material comes across really well, too - much better than the studio recordings. I really enjoy Rick's solo spot, too. I give it an 8.5
I also have a Brazilian copy of the dvd for this concert, which is great - one of my favourite Yes related videos. I give that a 9.

I gave it a 7.... I ws so excited that Stee and Wakey were back in the mix, as well as having Bill on stage with Jon. The live shows were pretty good, I enjoyed the heck out of them! Although, I will never be able to stand electronic drums, and they were especially bad at that point in time. Thank-You Bill for going back accoutic! The West coast shows I saw were great, although we didn't get Levin out here, we got Jeff Berlin who is an amzaing jazz player, he did a commendable job on such short notice. But his sound just didn't work.... Overall the shows were great, except they lacked any punch to them... They were flat... No boom boom...
Great nevertheless! The DVD is an enjoyable listen!
I missed Tony on this one.
The Stockholm show should have been the album.

Elephant Talk was the best!
You mean that WASN'T Robert Fripp?
Oops.
Nevermind.
I learned how to hold the guitar by watching Steve on this VHS. Not play it, just hold it correctly.:lmao:

I gave it a five. It's got some fine performances, but it lacks THE Yes rythm section and THE Yes backing vocals. Chris and Alan, you were sorely missed.

It proves how important Chris Squire is for Yes.
........even though Uncle Tony and Jeff Berlin are great bass players.

Tony is great. His playing with PG is someting I love tremendously. But his style doesn't fit Yes music at all IMHO.

I gave it an 8.
My friends and I saw one of the LA shows..it may have been the first Jeff Berlin show. We got a kick out of watching him reading charts for Close to the Edge.
Anyway, the CD/video match my memories of the show. Love the ABWH material, and CTTE is great in spite of the electronic drums.
Would have been nice to have seen Tony Levin though...

I also gave it an 8.
Wakeman's solo is simply awesome. Bruford's drumming is precise and crisp. Anderson is in good voice. And the tune Birthright is absolutely fabulous, better than the studio version in my opinion.
I would have given it higher save for Jeff Berlin's playing. He's a good player, but I just did not like the sound the bass gave, especially in comparison to Tony Levin. It definitely sounded as if he was pressed into service at the last minute, which I understand he was.

I gave it a 4. Jeff Berlin is not my favorite bass player, and though he did a good job coming in on short notice and learning the parts, it just doesn't cut it for me. Too bad they couldn't have recorded another show with Levin. Or better yet, bribed Squire to do it! :D

The camera work is excellent. Video at it’s almost, best, groovy. But that was before we have the graphics of today. I enjoyed everyone in the audience getting down, looks like a party. Good production with Lots of CLASS.

I see what you mean.
No Chris or even Tony = very disappointing!
You are right about Bruford. Self indulgent to a new level. He really does not care about the "song" as much as entertaining himself in this one and many other shows.
I do think Jon, Steve, and Rick carried what there was of a show.
Too bad Tony Levin got sick.:stretcher:
and why all the extra guys?? Wakeman needs a back up?! Steve?!

Although Jeff Berlin did an impeccable job, that detail escaped my mind...I did see ABWH on that tour (in Montreal) with Levin who is missing on the Live CD/DVD issues and that somewhat reduces my score to a 9 instead of 10. But still it is a great document for what was the Best Yes or ABWH Tour ever.
