Hi Everyone,

Call me crazy but every time I've listened to CTTE I have always stuggled to hear the line 'and assessing points to nowhere, leading every single one'. I always hear it as 'an assassin points to no-one, meaning every single one'. Does anyone else hear this or am I just dreaming? I'm never certain about the last bit of it but I always hear assassin not assessing. I guess it's probably just the way Jon sings it and his accent.
I'm interested to see what others think?

Hi David!
Thinking about it, the Australasian accent (as it's understood by a mere Scot) would certainly make that line sound as you seem to hear it. My brother once had a girlfriend from NZ and if you asked her to say "assassin", it would sound like "assesing" to my ears.

Perhaps it's this that is the explanation.
I love misunderstanding of song lyrics (as in hearing the wrong words rather than subjective interpretation of meaning)- you always get some amazing results! lol

Oh and welcome to Yesfans!

Hi Rohan,

I think your right, its the difference in our accents - us NZers do speak pretty funny lol I remember seeing on TV that we tend to pronouce the ends of words faster than the beginnings, thats probably how my ears managed to shorten it to assassin!
I don't think I'm ever going to hear 'assessing', ah well, I like my line anyway lol.

David - welcome to Yesfans - as we know the NZ accent has its moments but its main saving grace is that it turns six into sex.

"and assessing points to nowhere"
different perspectives of life
each of them to explaining the ultimate reality
"leading every single one"
each perspective can create in the mind
a whole life long process of decisions

for example lets say you're christian (an assessing point, ie you life is defines through christian perspective )
let's say you are a buddhist(sp?) (your life would be defines by the budist view of things)

hope this helps

Thanks for the replies,

Haha, well here in New Zealand we say exactly the same thing about you Aussies! We used to get so many laughs out of getting our Australian Economics teach to say something along the lines of the "6 dollars sixty worth of fish and chips" sorta thing too lol.

Vic, thanks thats helped a lot! I had had trouble getting my head around the meaning of that line as well as hearing it. It makes sense in the context of the song.
