I was thinking of buying this DVD and then I read this on Notes From The Edge:
Another H.O.B. Victim
From: Reuben Rendon
Location: San Antonio, TX USA.
I too am a victim of the incredible disappearing House Of Blues DVD. At first I thought it was me or my equipment, but after reading other complaints I know now that I am not. I really enjoyed the DVD While it existed but have not replaced it for fear that it will suffer the fate of my first DVD. I would like to own a functional one when it is available. Please send info.
Then MOT replies:
There is no info to send. No one is owning up to the issue, so for now we're all stuck with nonfunctional disks. --MOT
So does this mean that all the House Of Blues DVDs have a problem? Has anyone on the board had problems with their copy?

I had a problem with the 1st one I ordered. There was a run of them that were defective. I had to open up my DVD player just to get the damnedthing out.
They recently reissued this DVD and it was fine. I got my second one from Amazon ( who didn't have it new until the reissue).
It's a great DVD. I flip flop between Symphonic Yes and this and the best Yes DVD.

Apparently there were problems with the first batch of U.S. issue discs.
Don't let that put you off though, as it is a terrific show and very much worthy of being in your DVD collection!
It's a classic piece of Yes history. I'm sure you'll love it.

The original release, produced by Beyond Music, had a defective batch of discs. Some of us managed to get replacement discs from Beyond before they went out of business. Anyone with a defective Beyond disc probably is out of luck. The currently available release, on Eagle (I believe), should be OK as far as know (I haven't bought it).

Buy it and enjoy it, Next to Symphonic it's one of the best Dvd's you could wish for.
Having said that I was not aware of the problems mentioned in the above post's.
The copies here in the UK are fine to the best of my knowledge, I ordered my copy from play.com
Hope it works out for you.
Cheers.

Mine worked fine for about a year, then it started skipping/repeating, and no longer plays. It was a good one, while it lasted! I'm a little wary of buying a replacement in the event I get another one of the bad ones.

So that is the reason my Samsung 5-disc changer sometimes freezes up, and I have to unplug it to unfreeze it? My Beyond Music HOB disc? Interesting, if true.
Mine still plays fine, so I won't replace it, but that is interesting...

I got mine ages ago and it's still OK - just watched the other week in fact.

The problem is if you get a sratch on the DVD - especially if it runs in arc like fashion - this inhibits the laser from reading that part of the disc.
Half the DVDs I rent usually have trouble in some places, quite often it's nothing more than a speck of dirt or piece of fur. Be sure to always inspect and carefully clean your discs before you play them. Likewise make sure the player's trey does have dust and hair on it.

Alternatively you could have a cheep DVD player or the lens may need cleaning. Try you DVD in another player like the DVD ROM if you don't experience the same difficulties, then the problem is likely the player. You can get CD/DVD head cleaners at most electronics stores.

Then again, it could be a case of bad DVDs - in which case the company or store should replace them.

I was one of the fortunate ones getting a new DVD. I even purchased a extra. I also have two copies of Symphonic and Keys. All I need now is Yessongs any one want to trade yespeak for Yessongs? I didn'tthink so,what I will end up doing with that scam is trade it at a local music store,it they will take it!

Kevin,I waited to buy this because of all the problems on the first release.I bought the 11/04 release by Eagle and have had no problems.I read your post about Amazon not having any copies. When I went there they did but, although it had the Eagle release date it showed "Red" as the distributor.I don't know if they bought out Eagle or what.If you go to e-bay make sure its the Eagle release.Good luck.

This was my very first Yes DVD.
In fact, I bought it before I had a player at home; but just had to have it when I saw it on the video store shelf.
This was at a shopping centre; my next call happened to be to a high-fi store. When I saw a line of TV's all plugged in on demo to a DVD player, - playing the 'Lion King' from memory, and no-one was within range; I operated the DVD player and replaced their video with HOB and watched 10 minutes of it on about 20 TV sets.
No staff member noticed the change, so I got a special first viewing of this great Yes show.
It's as good a show as you could ever ask for IMHO. 10/10.
