Alan adds a lot to the live versions.
Now, the 91 Union Mountain View version is great, and Bill carries the drums on that one. The only thing wrong with it is Chris' bass solo at the beginning goes a bit haywire.
I like what Rabin did with HOTS when he played it live.

Me too. Trevor was great! Other than that I never cared for the song.

The string keyboards by Wakey at the start of the "Yessongs" version make it my favourite. Having said that nothing can beat the power and clarity of the singing at the very end of the original studio version on "Fragile" - it was a wonderful finish to the album.

My favorite Version Of Heart Of The Sunrise Is From 10/28/78. "IN THE ROUND", Wembly Area. Next Is Yessongs.

I'd have to go with the version of the Japanese-released VHS of their 91 tour

Wakeman makes some unbelievable sounds on the keys on the intro of the Wembley '78 version. Alan is also especially great on that version.
Another great version is when I saw them do it in Toronto in 1997. Chris held the bass over his head while he played the first half.

Greetings. I think the "An Evening Of Yes Music Plus" is the best version if you don't mind the lack of Squire and Bill's sort of annoying electronic snare. But other than that it's my favorite. Close To The Edge and And You And I are also my favorite live takes of those songs from the same album.

Welcome, Daryl. Yeah I always really liked the version of And You And I on An Evening of Yes Music Plus. I have the gold cd version of that.

Ah you are a lucky man. The thing with And You And I is that on all other live versions, the middle instrumental section needs to have prominent string type keyboards, on all other tours Tony, Igor and even Wakeman used soft pads or other types of sounds. For some reason I think it was that version of that song that made me realize I am a Yes fan for life.
And thanks, I'm glad to be here.

Are there any versions of Heart Of The Sunrise that are out on DVD?
By this, I mean actual releases, not bootleg.

This is probably the most popular Yes song that I don't seem to like nearly so much as most fans. I think I probably like the original studio version best. I like the Talk tour version on the Santiago DVD just because it is a different take on it. None of them excite me overly much.

Ditto on the FRAGILE version, as well...
Although I did love the first time I ever heard HOTS live (9-7-94), at the PNC, where Chris does that fantastic bass thingy at the beginning, and gets a standing ovation from all us Yesheads!! WHOO-HOO!!!
BTW, HOTS was the one Yes song I got my ex to love, which back then, was a plus!! So I basically made a Squire fan (of sorts) outta him!!

It's in a clip near the beginning of the documentary. I believe it's right after the Leave it intro and right before they get to the band history starting with No Opportunity... I haven't watched Yesyears in a bit. The clip in HOTS is from Florida 1991 I believe.
I've said this many times here but if and of the Yes guys are reading this, I plead, on your next concert DVD which will probably be for the 40th anniversary, please get a good version of HOTS on film with no electric drums. We don't have any pro-shot footage of the classic lineup doing HOTS.

Oh so it's just a clip and not the entire performance.
I personally don't care for the song, but for as beloved of a Yes song that it seems to be, I'm so surprised there aren't many live versions of it on DVD. You would think it would be included in every performance.

Well that's fine for you. Personally HOTS is one of my all time favorite Yes songs and will always be extremley special to me because it was my introduction to Yes, it was the first Yes song I ever heard and hooked me right in to buying all the albums.
I wonder if there's any more of the Philly '79 show in a vault somewhere. Yes were doing stunning versions of HOTS in the late 70's and it's so disappointing it's not in the concert film of Philly or on the DVD.

The original version on Fragile is my favorite version of HOTS... with Yessongs version coming in a very close second. ;)
