Rick's finest YES moments for me :

EXCERPTS FROM THE SIX WIVES OF HENRY VIII (Yessongs)
Probably the greatest "show off our keyboardist" track on any live album. The bits and pieces of Rick's solo album are put together nicely.

AND YOU AND I (Close To The Edge & Yessongs)
Rick creates a terrific imaginary orchestra on this tune.

SIBERIAN KHATRU (Close To The Edge & Yessongs)
I love when Rick kicks in with the harpsichord.

THE REVEALING SCIENCE OF GOD (Tales From Topographic Oceans)
About 17 minutes into this Rick lets out a wonderful spine-tingling solo.

AWAKEN (Going For The One)
May be Rick's finest YES performance...stunning.

TURN OF THE CENTURY (Going For The One)
The interplay between Rick, Steve and Chris in the instrumental bridge is heavenly.

SOUTH SIDE OF THE SKY (Fragile)
Very pretty acoustic piano work from Rick highlights this one.

ROUNDABOUT (Fragile, Yessongs, Classic Yes, Keys To Ascension)
The keyboard solo near the end is Rick at his rockin' best.

CLOSE TO THE EDGE (Close To The Edge, Yessongs)
The organ swells in the I GET UP I GET DOWN section are hypnotic and the high velocity solo near the end is breathtaking.

And that's just the tip of the Rickberg....

As far as solo work goes, the entire SIX WIVES OF HENRY VIII album never fails to blow me away. And I have a very special place in my heart for the CRIMINAL RECORD album...especially JUDAS ISCARIOT. If you like pipe organ Rick style....WOW.

I also love Rick's stuff in "Heart of the Sunrise" - the start-stop-start-stop with Steve and Chris in the opening, the James Bond spy music farther it ... he is a master of mood ...

The Yessongs version of Heart of the Sunrise after the opening riff(s), you can almost feel the heat of the sun.
Also, the mellotron segway at the very end of And You And I.

Of course, I could go on... Those are the first that come to mind...

....and not near long enough. Just as soon as it gets going it ends. That solo needed to go on much longer.

Too bad Yes is more a guitar-group than a keyboard-group. I think that's too bad. Rick always was more accompanying and Steve Howe over-shadowed too much.

That TRSOG-solo indeed is beautiful and too short.

I always thought: THE YES ALBUM should have been with Rick on the keyboards. The songs are better live (except YOUR MOVE, it's bad live, I think) and I really love it that he did an extra solo for STARSHIP TROOPER. That one rocks!!!

It's been an eternity since my last visit here, but this is a topic, I simply have to answer.

My favourite Rick Moments are:

-) the Jane Seymour segment in Excerpts (Yessongs) - unbelievable Mellotron playing !!!!!
-) Close to the Edge (Studio)
-) Heart of the Sunrise (guess which part!)
-) the synth solo at the end of Rhythm of Love (Union Tour DVD) -it may be just the typical Rick-scales, but it fits perfectly there!
