Maybe because it was good, was off a best selling album and as already pointed out, was there really any competition?

Yes - "Cinema"
Genesis - "Second Home by the Sea"
Lionel Hampton - "Vibramatic"
Edward Van Halen - "Donut City"
Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble - "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)"

Here were the nominees...
Second Home By The Sea was worthy...

and I don't even know what Donut City is ??

Anyway, here was the competition. :)

And Yes had some recognition coming to them...and still do,still do,way, way overdue recognition.

The Grammy's are renowned for poor decision making processes-re:Jethro Tull's now infamous Heavy Metal category award...

However, just as in the case of Tull, someone, somewhere wisely recognized the need to throw Yes at least a bit of a bone. They're often quite clumsy as to just how to go about that, but in this case,it was somewhat appropriate recognizing Yes for their instrumental prowess.Albeit still clumsily.

One could hope that some kind of Lifetime Acheivement Award-something!-would be in the offing for this most creative, and persistent, and persevering(at times against all odds!) group of musicians that is Yes.

One could hope, but instead,it's snub after snub...(I won't even mention that joke of a place in Cleveland,Ohio...)

In the years to come, the decades, the centuries-these awards committees will be long since forgotten as the music of Yes is played on,analyzed and re-analyzed...
