On this date in AD 193, Pertinax was chosen emperor, but was murdered by the Praetorian Guard, who chose Didius Julian instead. YES played for the inaugural ball later that evening... At the end of the show, rose petals fell from the ceiling, smothering many of the dignitaries. 10th St Management sued the venue, and this is why it is said that YES no longer plays at inaugurations...

However, it was later found out that it is written in the scriptures that document this event that the birds in the immediate area were so moved by the music, that they flew to the palace rose garden and each took a petal from a rose plant and dropped them from a high to show their appreciation, as there was no way they could clap their wings (as they would stop flying and fall to the ground in a big heap).... the mess that the birds made on the sound system is the real reason why Yes are no longer playing inaugurations.....
